Tedious thread - what tumble drier to buy?

SittHakim · 25/08/2018 20:30

We've just got back from holiday and the drier has taken one look at the mountain of laundry and packed up. What should we buy to replace it? (We can't have a vented one as there's nowhere to put the hose, so I think the choice is a heat pump one or a condenser.)

Tell me if you'd recommend yours, or if there are models I should avoid! Thanks.

AEG - nightmare. Avoid

My John Lewis one is (fingers crossed) going well after 12 years. It is vented though.

I've had my £150 White Knight one for near on ten years now & the only repair it's needed is the pushy thing inside the door that makes it go.

It's a vented one though. I've no idea if they do the other types but I reckon worth a look - I didn't expect it to last this long at that price but it's been well worth the money spent (which was a lot to me when I bought it & had to borrow from my dad).

LurkingQuietly · 26/08/2018 08:48

Watching with interest. I think my condenser zanussi is on its last legs, but to be fair, it's at least 10 years old - dh can't remember when he bought it but he's had it as long as we've been together.

Palmer1983 · 26/08/2018 08:51

Have you looked on Ao.com ?? There quick and I think we have bought most our white goods from there.

nbee84 · 26/08/2018 08:55

I have a Beko condenser and I love it. 8kg load, sensor stop (which actually works, my old hotpoint one left the clothes needing another 10 - 20 mins) lots of programmes. I have it set up to empty the water to the drain so no fiddling to empty water tanks. If that isn't an option for you look for one tgat has the water drawer at the top as my old one was at the bottom which I found a pain.

QuitMoaning · 26/08/2018 08:57

Which reckon a Bosch WTW87560GB is the best and it is a heat condenser.

Growingboys · 26/08/2018 08:57

My Miele condenser is great but expensive. I love it.

SittHakim · 26/08/2018 08:58

Thanks for all the advice.

Yep, planning to buy from ao.com, but wanted to see if there were recommendations for particular models as there's a lot of choice (and price range!).

Curry’s told me not to bother with heat pump just ge5 a condenser. If you google there’s pages explainin* why. Basically more expensive and won’t save you that in electrity costs.

Daffodildainty · 26/08/2018 09:04

I’ve a Beko condenser - it was cheap and it’s excellent

QuitMoaning · 26/08/2018 09:05

I have a Miele and very happy with it and is highly rated. Expensive but it was worth it. TDB130WP

Palmer1983 · 26/08/2018 09:32

Yeah Miele are highly rated my mother swears by her washing machine and tumble dryer will only buy this make but she’s really fickle at cleaning it.

amzn.to/2BNnYL2 Here’s what they look like but I’m not sure I could spend this much Shock mostly because I’m terrible at looking after stuff Blush

ShutTheFridgeUp · 26/08/2018 09:33

I've recently purchased this one and love it!

I nearly posted this same tread yesterday so, I was going to ask, is a heat pump one really worth the extra ££££ family of 3. Mainly use for socks/ pants and bedding as have a drysoon airier too????

lynmilne65 · 26/08/2018 10:21

Which part of ' Can't have a vented one' is so hard for the illiterate?

vjg13 · 26/08/2018 10:28

Avoid Hotpoint, Indesit and Creda, they were the ones catching fire and the parent company expected people to wait months for their machines to be modified.

Would definitely get as big a capacity as possible, less creasing IME using my 8Kg one than previous.

BarbaraofSevillle · 26/08/2018 11:02

Don't get the Indesit condenser sensor one, because it is utterly shite.

Claims to detect when clothes are dry and adjusts drying time accordingly, which actually means it stops while everything is still damp or it is still going about 4 hours later with everything baking hot.

Cleaning condesor is a fiddly shitey job. I really hate the thing and only use it when desperate and even though it is only 2 years old, I would really love it to break so I can justify a better one, but appliances last weirdly forever in our house, at least 12 years, and the fridge freezer is now over 20, so it looks like we are stuck with the bastard thing for the foreseeable.

JustAnotherPoster00 · 26/08/2018 11:32

I just got the Candy Smart Touch condenser im pretty impressed with it tbh

SisyphusDad · 26/08/2018 12:58

Got a Bosch WTYH6790GB Heat Pump Condenser tumble dryer. Very pleased with it so far. Large capacity and fast drying - will dry a load before the washing machine has finished doing the next lot.

SittHakim · 26/08/2018 13:52

Thanks, everyone - this is really helpful (except lynmilne who's obviously having a bad day and looking for a fight). I may go for a Bosch: I keep looking at Miele appliances but wince at the prices!

Miele have a discount outlet in Oxfordshire.

SittHakim · 26/08/2018 14:11

Ooh really, where? Do they deliver? (I know I am a sad soul to find this exciting!)

OP posts:
Fluffycloudland77 · 26/08/2018 14:14

Its on the ukwebsite, they deliver but you have to go there to buy it.
