Tedious thread - what tumble drier to buy?

We've just got back from holiday and the drier has taken one look at the mountain of laundry and packed up. What should we buy to replace it? (We can't have a vented one as there's nowhere to put the hose, so I think the choice is a heat pump one or a condenser.)

Tell me if you'd recommend yours, or if there are models I should avoid! Thanks.

I just got the Candy Smart Touch condenser im pretty impressed with it tbh

Same, I definitely rate it!

I got a Beko condenser dryer on the recommendation of a friend. It has a water chamber at the top which easier to empty, sensors, so washing gets dry and has a light which is useful as it is in the garage. Cheap and cheerful.
I read quite a bit about heat pump ones which put me off. Not suitable for use in a garage anyway.

My washing machine repair man told me that he would never spend a lot of money on a tumble dryer - he recommended getting a cheap one such as Beko. According to him, money is better spent on a really decent washing machine

I think that's probably true Frustrated mummy. We have a ten year old Bosch washing machine and our repair man said to get the same quality now we need to pay ££££.

Mine was/is a replacement for the recalled ones. So, had it about 2 yes max. The belt has just gone a second time. With all this rain my washing pile is now mounting up!

I'm debating replacing or trying to repair. Things don't last anymore, do they ? Sad

Re the heat pump ones - from my research I deduced that unless you were a family of 4 that tumble dried all clothes all year round the extra cost was not worth it. As I only really tumble underwear and the occasional load if I have a backload of washing or need something quickly it would that msny many years to recoup the extra cost of the appliance over electricity saving.

BarbaraofSevillle · 27/08/2018 08:20

Are there any benefits to the heat pump ones other than cheaper to run, or is it better to get a good condenser one if you only want a dryer for occasional use?

AliBingo · 27/08/2018 09:45

Our heat pump.onw runs a lot cooler than our old condenser so I think it's better for the clothes.

Recently replaced our 20 yo white knight with another. A bit more plasticky than its predecessor but does the job.

WhirlyGigWhirlyGig · 27/08/2018 10:46

We've got a Beko 8kg condenser one and I don't think it's that great tbh.
My parents have a Miele one and really rate it so I'm probably going to get one in time.

Ivory200 · 27/08/2018 11:03

Don't buy a heat pump one. They are too temperamental. We made an expensive mistake with ours Sad

Ivory200 · 27/08/2018 11:07

For example, very long cycles, stops multiple times during a cycle for no discernible reason, clothes sometimes not dry when cycle ends, and occasionally will complete a cycle perfectly. No predictable reliability. It does run a bit cooler, which would be good if it actually dried stuff every cycle. A load of towels can take up to a full day, running back and forth swearing (me!) and pressing restart!

Pasithea · 27/08/2018 11:12

On the recommendation of my repair man I went on the white knight website and got a condenser for less than 200 quid. It has a huge capacity loads of useful settings and I love it.

PonyPals · 27/08/2018 11:15

Have a Miele condense one and love it. Pricey but great quality.

EvilRingahBitch · 27/08/2018 11:20

I’ve got a Siemens condenser. Quite good, once I recalibrated the sensors so they got things properly dry.
