Can you take a dog on a first class flight?

This is not a stealth brag, I have a genuine reason for asking. I know I could call the airlines, but I am more likely to get an overall view from here. Please let me know if you have done this and if there were any problems. The dog would be in the cabin with its owner.

Thanks.

No

Are you sure biscuiteer?

Is it a registered assistance dog? There are potentially arrangements that can be made if they are registered. If it's an unofficial companion dog, no way.

It is not a registered assistance dog. However, it is the companion animal for someone with agoraphobia.

Where is the flight between? What airline?

SD1978 · 24/08/2018 01:29

Most likely not then. Any chance of getting the animal registered? Not sure what the process is. In America it seems ridiculously easy.

TheMythicalChicken · 24/08/2018 01:30

All the main airlines fly between these two countries. Interestingly, if the dog were a falcon, he could travel first class on Etihad Grin.

Some airlines allow small pets (small enough to fit in a carrier of a certain size and weight, think it has to fit under the seat in front) in the cabin on flights leaving the UK. No airline allows pets in the cabin on flights entering the UK.

TroubledLichen · 24/08/2018 01:32

Depends where you’re travelling to/from. If it involves the UK you almost certainly won’t be allowed unless it’s actually a guide dog (emotional support doesn’t cut it). If it’s say an internal flight within the US then it’s fine although airlines have their own policies including sometimes breed specific restrictions. Class of travel doesn’t usually come into it.

Cruggs · 24/08/2018 01:34

I'd be so pissed off if there was a dog in a first class cabin.

TheMythicalChicken · 24/08/2018 01:35

I'd be so pissed off if there was a dog in a first class cabin.

Why? You wouldn't even see it. Most first class cabins are closed to the point where it's rare to see ANY of your fellow first class passengers, including a hypothetical dog.

Bit harsh if it’s a blind person travelling with their guide dog.

This is correct, appart from the last setence there is at least a german airline that allows small pets in the cabin from the uk

These airlines alll8w small dogs in the cabin

Backinthebox · 24/08/2018 02:03

I am not aware of any airline that allows animals on international flights unless they are registered assistance animals.

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 24/08/2018 02:04

Uk link tells you exactly the rules from the airlines including Tui etc

Blackbox read the links ive posted

AuntieFesterAdams · 24/08/2018 02:59

for international flights, I believe they have to be pre-booked, paid for and stored in the heated part of the hold. This can only contain a small number of animals so pre-booking is essential.

TheMythicalChicken · 24/08/2018 04:43

untieFesterAdams, I have done that in the past, when we've moved countries. I wanted the dog to sit with the passenger, but it does not look like it is possible.

I might have to persuade her to get a companion falcon or two Grin.

DunesOfSand · 24/08/2018 05:03

Into the UK, I believe it is cargo only.
Out of the UK, possible, but only with small dogs (think cat sized...There is usually a weight limit.).

PollyFlinderz · 24/08/2018 05:07

Ive shared a cabin with a Falcon and to be quite honest it was a really nice experience being up close to such a beautiful bird. The owner wasn't half bad either. It had its own seat and there was a pad on the seat incase it needed to pooh (it didnt) as the owner had the bird attached to him by a short lead and it really couldn't go anywhere else.

Dogs in a first class cabin? Ive never come across it and given the configuration of these cabins, you generally have our own little pod, I can't see how a dog would be a nuisance unless it barked. Toileting? Im assuming it would have a cork stuck up its backside to stop it being an issue.

But that aside why would someone with Agrophobia need a dog with them at 37,000 feet unless they were actually doing the journey strapped to the wings of the aircraft?

Do I think this thread is for real?

You are likely going to be flying long haul if you are flying first class. It costs loads of money. I'm allergic to dogs. So yes I'd be pissed of if something that makes me physically uncomfortable is in the plane with me. I would be paying the extra money to be uncomfortable. Great.

Also I'd worry about its toileting.

Dilemmacentral · 24/08/2018 05:39

Don’t give it another seconds thought OP

It’s a no. A categorical 100% fact, no
