Fucking spiders!!!!!

I hate them. The gangly, hairy fuckers. I keep spotting them - not the little ones that just piss about, the big fat bastards that you can hear scutter across the floor. I'm on edge!!

The cat and the dog do nothing. Traitors.

One ran across the floor this eve and a pint glass wouldn't fit over it.

Apart from burning my house down, does anyone have any spider repellent ideas that are okay to use with pets and a baby?

If you're at all near London, I couldn't recommend London Zoo's Friendly Spider course more highly. In a day I went from phobic to cured, I'd never have believed it was even possible.

Whatifigglepiggleandpeppadated · 23/08/2018 21:42

No advice but I feel your spidery pain

Fucking spiders!!!!!
OlderThanAverageforMN · 23/08/2018 21:42

My DD takes the hoover to bed with her!! It sits by the side of the bed all tooled up and ready to go. She swears she can hear the buggers scuttling across the floor. At this time of year she won't go to sleep without it Grin

pompomcat · 23/08/2018 21:45

You poor thing...I'm terrified (and not like, ooohhh a spider ahhh, more like frozen in fear / screaming / can't bring myself to go near the buggers / can't function until they're removed).

I'd burn the house down and give the cat and dog up for adoption due to their failure to protect you (only half joking!!!)

My advice is to keep everything super clean at home, fill in any cracks, spray peppermint oil liberally and stick conkers everywhere (the latter two make me feel better, the first two actually might work). We're also trialling spider repellant plug ins at present, I got some cheaper ones off Amazon (a set of four) but they appear to be sold out, this one has good reviews:

pompomcat · 23/08/2018 22:23

I just found one in the bath!!! Size of a fricking teacup Confused

sirlee66 · 23/08/2018 22:23

Glad it's not just me!! Oooo spider repellent plug in - I will investigate!

Tried conkers last year, DDog just batted them about and tried to eat them. They're poisonous to dogs so they had to go. However, house is fairy tidy. Not many cracks or holes but the windows are always open. We don't really have clutter so the only hiding places are under the sofas/bed/furniture... I learnt my lesson the hard way as a teenager when I put a top on that was crumpled on the floor and a massive whopper of a spider was on it and sat on my shoulder. Horrendous.

I feel like there is one somewhere in the room staring at me. Gives me the heebeegeebees.

39 weeks pregnant and fed up. This fucker almost started labour off this morning. After about half an hour of consoling myself I finally managed to put it outside and when it ran off I literally heard it running through the grass. It had knee caps and fingernails and everything.

Fucking spiders!!!!!
sirlee66 · 24/08/2018 20:43

Horrendous. So today I saw two spiders fighting. It's beyond a joke anyhow many there are. I think they must come in from the woods behind us!!

SamPotatoes · 24/08/2018 20:50

I leaned over the other day and saw something out of the corner of my eye. It was a fucking spider IN MY FUCKING HAIR. It must have crawled in it when I was sat on the sofa. I screamed so loudly the children actually looked up from minecraft/msp/YouTube, a feat not achieved at any other point this summer.

missyB1 · 24/08/2018 20:54

Sorry OP but I doubt they were fighting, probably mating Shock

Luckily my dog is brilliant at catching them if she can reach them. It’s the bastards on the ceiling that upset me.

KenAdams · 24/08/2018 21:43

I was just coming on to start this. I've just come upstairs and there are multiple big spiders in every room. Ones on the light and near the curtains. The worst thing is that the cleaner has been today and has given everything a very thorough clean so in a few hours we've had this many come out so...just how many are there hiding Shock

sirlee66 · 25/08/2018 11:45

Sam I think I would have died

Missy nooooooooo!!! They're breeding!?!!! The thick one has died thank god it's all wrapped up in spider web and hanging there like a trophy... The thin one mated and ate it!? Pass me the matches - on second thought, I'll send DH in with a cup and a piece of paper...

I hate them. Really really Can not cope with them. I know they're supposed to be good to have around and that in England they really won't hurt me. But I just can't get my head to actually listen to that. I wish I could but it's a completely irrational but uncontrollable fear. I spend this time of year on edge.

Last year we had loads of huge ones. We worked out they seemed to be coming from the loft. This year we've had one large one and a couple of slightly smaller ones so far.

Last year I discovered this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Spiderex-Spider-Repellent-Aerosol-Cameras/dp/B003R0E9V6/ref=mpssa111?ie=UTF8&qid=1535194161&sr=8-1&pi=ACSX2366SY340QL65&keywords=spider+x

We have several cans in strategic places so it's ready to grab without me having to pass by one.

I spray likely places as it also works as a deterrent and seems to last a few weeks, based on last year. I make dh spray the loft liberally once a month.

joliejoleen · 25/08/2018 12:18

Omg the sizes of some of these bastards! Where do you guys live???

joliejoleen · 25/08/2018 12:42

This thread reminded me that I should stock up on some peppermint oil...

We have a spider catching tool this year. Not had to try it yet. Catching them was ex's job but now it's up to me Shock. DS1 is utterly phobic of them despite being a 19 year old lad.

BifsWif · 25/08/2018 13:16

I second Spider X. It’s used in the security industry to stop spiders activating alarm sensors.

You need to use it before now really, but it’s a brilliant deterrent. Spray it around doorways and edges of rooms etc.

Tisfortired · 25/08/2018 13:22

Playmobil victim for reference 🤢

Fucking spiders!!!!!
Booboopidoo · 25/08/2018 13:32

My (lifelong and fairly severe) phobia has slowly but surely disappeared over the last couple of years. No idea why but they just don’t bother me anymore. Weirdly I haven’t seen a single one of the big house spiders yet this year, I can only conclude they know I’m not scared so aren’t bothering with me!

Electrocute1980 · 25/08/2018 13:39

Last Saturday I was putting away some laundry in my bedroom and had just scraped my hair up into a messy bun. Felt something tickling my neck and flicked at my neck only to see out of the corner of my eye something huge and black land on my bed and scurry under a pile of towels. It was a massive fucking spider and how the fuck it got into my hair I don't know! Freaked right out. Fortunately DH caught it and put it outside!

sirlee66 · 25/08/2018 14:46

🤢🤢🤢

That's awful. Here's a pic of one of the buggers that creeped out the other night.

They seem to know when you're most vunerable and then run out just to intimidate you!

Fucking spiders!!!!!

BeefyCakes · 25/08/2018 15:12

This is outside dp's flat. He's got a downstairs one with an outside space. There's at least three of the fuckers and they're huge!!
