If you have an unusual middle name, do you like it?

Do you wish your parents had been a bit more conventional when they named you?

If you gave your own dcs usual middle names do you regret it?

A relative has mentioned using Dragon and it's got me thinking about names.

I am not pregnant, or planning to be - Just pondering.

I used to know someone who's middle name was Fanny.
She kept it very quiet.

mamahanji · 23/08/2018 22:27

Tangoed

Were you on pointless 😛???

Camomila · 23/08/2018 22:56

Mine’s the commonest name for women in Southern Europe/Latin America.
DS also has a saint for a middle name, I think I’ll continue it for all the DC as it’s a link to their culture (neither side of the family isn’t originally British)

@mamahanji

Nope, that must be someone else with a football middle name 😂 I'm intrigued though, what was it?

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/08/2018 00:06

I've taught a boy with the middle name Tiger. And another with the name Fox.

My first name isn't completely out there, but fairly unusual. I never went to school with/uni with/worked with another person with the same name as mine. I think there's one actress with the same name, spelt the same way. Upon entry to high school, the register was called and someone sniggered at my name. Not brilliant. My own dds have q traditional names as I was fed up with people not being able to spell my name.

And my middle name is the Welsh spelling for Caryl. Pretty sure it's still supposed to be pronounced like the English Carol, but my parents always put an 'ill' sound on the end instead.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 25/08/2018 00:07

And I know another boy with the middle name Phoenix!

MissLadyM · 25/08/2018 00:36

My middle name is Madonna!

MissLadyM · 25/08/2018 00:37

Ps Richard Gere's is Tiffany

LeighaJ · 25/08/2018 00:37

Yes I like it and use it instead of my awful super weird first name.

BakedBeans47 · 25/08/2018 00:39

I’m not sharing it due to outing but no, I don’t like it. When I qualified in my profession it was on all my paperwork so I signed an affidavit to have it officially dropped.

Davros · 25/08/2018 01:00

My middle name is my paternal grandmother's maiden name. Very definitely a surname and I'm very happy with it. One of my subtle has the same middle name. DD's middle name is my maiden surname

My first two have middle name's that are in memory of family.
Unfortunately one of them is Rose but that was DH turn.

Third baby's middle name is Arthur. But only because his first&middle together means Happy Bear and I thought it was adorable.

DH hates his middle so much that he just says he doesn't have one.
And MIL doesn't actually have one!

I wish we'd been more "out there" with names but didn't feel brave enough when they were born. New baby is called Felix, so it's different but not unheard of.

PepperSteaks · 25/08/2018 07:13

DD has my mum’s maiden name as her middle name. It’s actually a known girls name but spelt differently so people always assume I’ve spelt it wrong Blush

mamahanji · 25/08/2018 07:52

Her names was Hollie Gillingham Football Club!!

It was utterly bizarre yet strangely cool 😂

mamahanji · 25/08/2018 07:55

Oh and my dd1 has a normal first name and Pandora as a middle name. We love it but didn't feel we could use it as a first name.

tangoed2 · 27/08/2018 13:49

@mamahanji Grinmines not quite as far as that!

Mine is both a boy’s name (not even one which can be or has become unisex) and a very unusual boy’s name at that. It’s also very Old Testament Biblical, very very seldom used by even very religious Christians and Jews, and my parents are not Christian, Jewish or at all religious. I asked my parents about it once and they said they just liked the way it sounded. They are very middle of the road, traditional, middle class people who otherwise blend into Boringville very well so god knows what madness took over them that day!

I quite like it though. It’s not awful and actually sounds quite nice. It’s just odd.

happymummy12345 · 29/08/2018 17:25

I don't have a middle name, I have a hyphenated first name (bracing self for the irrational hatred for those on here). Tbh I doubt I'd use a middle name much. Most people don't do they. I wouldn't want an unusual one though

Davros · 29/08/2018 19:56

I think Pandora is a great name. Apart from the inevitable jokes about her box Sad

fontofnoknowledge · 29/08/2018 20:07

I know a 'Wreckless' .. in his mis 20s now and oh, so apt. !

Davros · 29/08/2018 20:44

Not Wreckless Eric?! Grin

Wanttomakemincepies · 29/08/2018 20:56

Unusual first and third name. Second one normal but not used often. Not a clue what parents were thinking. Refused to have third name during wedding vows I dislike it so much. Everyone gets first name wrong.
DS has normal traditional names that people can't get wrong.
