Haven Holiday Parks - Booking Tonight!

Right, absolute last minute holiday to go on Monday 27th August, 2 x DC 5 & 7, looking for easy going fun, stuff for the DC to do, have already been on our 'naice' holiday so this is just a top up! Haven Parks have some really cheap offers (never been before) I have the choice of the following:

  • Haggerston Castle, Northumberland
  • Quay West, Newquay
  • Burnham on Sea
  • Seaview, Weymouth
  • Primrose Valley, Filey
  • Doniford Bay, Somerset
  • Blue Dolphin, Filey

DC's are pretty hardy/like activities, swimming etc

Where's best? Hoping to book tonight!!

Or Devon Cliffs, Exmouth!

Haggerston has pony trekking , peddle carts for hire , a boating lake and a great mini golf course.

I can't say either way about the other but I took my kids there when they were 6 and 13 and they loved it.

Many happy holidays at primrose valley but it was 25 years ago. Massive park, nice beach, day trips to Scarborough and flamingo land.

Loraline · 21/08/2018 20:11

Devon cliffs is great. Been 3 times and always had a ball. Great facilities and really well looked after park. Plus lovely beach. Good stuff nearby too.

NerrSnerr · 21/08/2018 20:11

Devon Cliffs was amazing when I was a child but I'm 36 now so it might be different. So many happy memories there. I do remember the beach was lovely though so I imagine that hasn't changed.

Notthisnotthat · 21/08/2018 20:12

I've been to Haggerstone, the surrounding area is beautiful and plenty to do off site. We went in a sun holiday and paid for an upgrade, but the caravan was really basic and mouldy. However a friend booked through Haven and her caravan was lovely and in a much nicer bit of the park.

We’re off to doniford bay on Friday, 2nd visit with DD. It’s not a huge park, but we like that, there’s entertainment there if you like it, the pool isn’t huge, but it’s fine for a dip. It’s on a beach, which is pebbles and the tide is too far out for paddling, but there’s a little stream for paddling in.
Watchet is quite nice, we went fossil and sea glass hunting, dunster is lovely, minehead is what it is and a day pass to butlins is possible. If you venture along the coast, Lynton and Lynmouth are worth a visit

The staff in site are helpful and DD loved the Funsters and seaside squad

TokyoSushi · 21/08/2018 20:23

Thanks so much, all great feedback, or West Bay Holiday Park in Bridport

primrose valley is fab. we've been going there for 15 years. the pools are great although the second pool in the splash zone is closed Mondays and Fridays so it can get busy in the splash pool those days. the park is lovely, beach access is via steep paths but worth the trek down there. loads of activities during the day and the evening entertainment is pretty good this year too.

anniehm · 21/08/2018 20:52

Not been to the haven site but love exmouth - beach is long and sandy, dog friendly down the far end. We've done other haven sites and it's perfect for younger kids

Aprilshowersinaugust · 21/08/2018 20:54

HC is horrific imo.
Craig Tara Scotland is fab, if a bit far for you!

Inkythemouse · 21/08/2018 20:54

We loved Haggerston castle. Primrose valley was ok but a nightmare to get to the beach (although I was 8 months pregnant which might have been the cause)
We are at haven Thorpe Park at the moment and it's really good

MartyMcFly1984 · 21/08/2018 20:56

Haggers can be a little run down at times. We find it’s a bit hit or miss, but on the whole kids love it. If you don’t know northumberland then it would let you have some lovely day trips up the coast

Lavalamped · 21/08/2018 20:57

Only been to Devon Cliffs but had a great time. It's on it's own a bit so not so good if you don't have a car to travel. Although saying that there is lots to do onsite. If booking Devon Cliffs I'd recommend booking via Newmans holiday homes as you can pick the exact caravan and usually works out cheaper (you do have to purchase the entertainment passes separately but Newmans send you a form to do this). I'd have a look on TripAdvisor for reviews of the other parks

Been to Burnham-on-Sea, nice park. A lake in the middle which the kids liked seeing the ducks. Lots of seagulls! Didn't try the pool but it looked good. Great for visiting Cheddar Gorge and Wookey Hole. Caravan was nice but they were a bit close together with no parking next to the van unless you had one of the more expensive ones.

Beach right outside the park is by the mouth of a river so the water quality isn't great. Best to drive up the road to Brean Down, very pretty cliffs and a National Trust cafe so you can get your caffeine fix whilst the kids dig. Check tide times though. With the beaches along the Bristol channel you can't walk out to the sea and paddle at low tide as sinking sand and mud is exposed. Fine to paddle at high tide and for a couple hours either side of it. Great for exploring Somerset but I wouldn't go there if you want to spend hours on a great beach.

Lynne1Cat · 21/08/2018 21:01

My son and his girls (7 yrs and almost 4yrs) are at the Cleethorpes one at the moment. He sent me photos of the caravan - really lovely with a twin-bedded room, a room with a double bed, plus lounge, kitchen, shower.

They've got loads of things to do there. At this very minute, they're enjoying a disco at the club there (children there), and they went to crazy golf and swimming todayswimming

IamChipmunk · 21/08/2018 21:04

We have just come back from Haggerston castle! Thought it was great. We had a nice caravan right on a lake. We got one with outdoor decking as dc are only little.
There is lots to do (more so for older ones) and surrounding area lovely.

We didnt do any evening entertainmemt and did a few days out which worked well.

Usernom1234567890 · 21/08/2018 21:05

I've been to the West Bay one in Bridport. It was really nice; well situated for walking into West Bay & it's a beautiful resort. This park is on the beach and it has a good swimming pool from memory.

Didn't realise it was a Haven, think we booked through Hoseasons.

The weather's better on the South coast tooSmile

Littlebelina · 21/08/2018 21:14

Out of your list I have only been to Devon cliffs but it is my favourite of the Haven parks I've been to. Plenty of seaside towns to do day trips to.

Not been to Haven at Filey but like that bit of coast. Whitby is good and Scarborough is ok

Littlebelina · 21/08/2018 21:16

Ps you can walk from Devon cliffs into Exmouth and get a bus back

eve34 · 21/08/2018 21:17

Doniford bay is a lovely site. Not too big. Bit has everything you need. We have done Weymouth and church farm. And would suffer the travelling to go back to doniford bay. Have fun.

Golde · 21/08/2018 21:27

I prefer Devon cliffs to the others on your list.

There's a nice one near Chichester but I've forgotten the name of it. Church something maybe?

TokyoSushi · 21/08/2018 21:30

DH wants to 'sleep on it' I want to go to Devon Cliffs, FFS we're meant to be going on Monday!

I've told him if it's sold out it's his fault and he needs to find a decent alternative 🙄

We did Devon Cliffs last year, it was great. Lots of stuff to do on the site as well.
