Right, absolute last minute holiday to go on Monday 27th August, 2 x DC 5 & 7, looking for easy going fun, stuff for the DC to do, have already been on our 'naice' holiday so this is just a top up! Haven Parks have some really cheap offers (never been before) I have the choice of the following:

  • Haggerston Castle, Northumberland
  • Quay West, Newquay
  • Burnham on Sea
  • Seaview, Weymouth
  • Primrose Valley, Filey
  • Doniford Bay, Somerset
  • Blue Dolphin, Filey

DC's are pretty hardy/like activities, swimming etc

Where's best? Hoping to book tonight!!

We have been to Haggerston which we love but always go for Deluxe or Deluxe Plus after a bad experience previously. The newer the caravans the further up the park you seem to be and they were a bit more spaced out up there.
Entertainment is pretty standard across most parks it seems...
Sure they were building new pub/food place when we were there last.

Been to Primrose too which seemed ok but son was ill and we didnt get to see/do much...

Blue Dolphin apparantly not so good but never been personally

We go to Sea view Weymouth every year. You have access to 2 different parks (Weymouth Bay) that are a short walk apart so lots of choice and if a show or activity clashes with your plans you can catch it at the other park at a different time. Weymouth has lots to explore and there's a scenic walk down to the beach and Bowleaze cove amusement park.

It's a lovely place with some great places to visit outside of the park and nice pubs nearby.

Went to Weymouth earlier this year and it was great. Can't fault Haven they try so hard to please have had really fun breaks all over England

My kids love a wee haven holiday we have to get in at least a couple a year.
Haggerston is fab we are off there again in a few weeks, lots to do but expensive, bamburgh castle and beach and seahouses are worth a visit.
Filey is lovely but i would try for Reighton sands if you can get there. Its not as big as primrose valley so not as busy. I'd say it has a lot of owners and it is very well kept. The pool is fab with outside lazy river, the pub has a lovely outside area a bit of sun and you could be abroad.
Have you looked at lakeland as well its also a lovely site, very peaceful with lots to do in the surrounding area in the lakes.

Been to Haggerston - caravan was a delux and was really nice in a quiet area. The high wires were fun. The village of Alnwick and the castle are fab.

BUT......

The communal areas of the holiday park are grotty. The smell of damp in the soft play was revolting. The amusements were awful...just miles of sodding machines for kids to piss money away on. The service in the main restaurant wasn't great and the kids entertainment was full of really pissed parents. In fact, there was quite a lot of daytime drinking going on which created a bit of an atmosphere in the park. The horse I rode when going trekking with the kids was shaking like a leaf.....and to top it all off I think I got food poisoning at the Chinese Restaurant because I spent a whole evening and night sweating buckets, naked on the loo.

Quay West is a quieter site but in a beautiful part of the country. Direct access to a lovely beach and when the tide is out you can walk into new quay town where there's lovely places to eat. They run boat trips from the harbour where you can go dolphin and seal spotting.

Doniford bay is great for the kids with lots to do in the area. Not far from butlins if you wanted a day there. Dunster castle is close. Crealy Park is a car ride away but the kids loved it 😊

MrsMoastyToasty · 21/08/2018 23:32

I wouldn't go to Burnham on sea. The tides along the Somerset coast are such that when it goes out there's loads of quick sand.
I went to Devon Cliffs for August Bank holiday a couple of years ago. The site and the beach are nice but the pool and amusements were absolutely rammed with people .

rednsparkley · 21/08/2018 23:37

We love Quay West, especially the walk/stroll round to the village of New Quay to the little beach and the lovely ice-cream shop. We like it because it is one of the quieter ones. We don't bother with the entertainments now ours are older but when they were the age of your LOs they loved it. The Rangers do loads of lovely things for littlies - bird boxes, nature trails, campfires, bushcraft, den building etc.

MrsDeanWinchester75 · 21/08/2018 23:51

Devon Cliffs is huge and sloping and will be packed.

We haven't been to Sea View but stayed at the Weymouth Bay site and the area is lovely.

The traffic will more than likely be an issue on Monday so maybe pick the closest one to home.

Powerless · 21/08/2018 23:52

Thornwick Bay!!!! Absolutely stunning

rednsparkley · 21/08/2018 23:56

I've never been to Haggerston Castle but I do remember this article Shock

Chaosandmadness · 22/08/2018 00:09

Recently come back from Blue Dolphin. Would never go there again.

Leesa65 · 22/08/2018 00:31

In the 70s Devon Cliffs was Sandy Bay Holiday Park

If its as good now as it was then, I'd say you can't go wrong .
I realise it was a long time ago ,

SubtitlesOn · 22/08/2018 00:43

West Bay beach is where BROADCHURCH was filmed

Rebecca36 · 22/08/2018 01:58

We went to one at Polperro in Cornwall. Lovely, especially for kids.

delphguelph · 22/08/2018 02:00

You'll never find an alternative!

BOOK it!

ohtheholidays · 22/08/2018 02:04

Seaview Weymouth and Burnham on Sea are both great sites.

Weymouth would be my first choice because there is so much to do in Weymouth and the surrounding area.

Walkerbean16 · 22/08/2018 02:13

bear in mind bank holiday traffic, if one is far away it might be a nightmare to get too. I've been to haggerston a couple of times it was good, try and get a nicer caravan though as some are basic. i go there because i love Alnwick castle and gardens and the coast.

TokyoSushi · 22/08/2018 10:21

I hope you have a nice time op Smile

PrefabSprouts · 22/08/2018 12:18

I'd have said Devon Cliffs too. Lots to do on site, great pool and Exmouth is lovely. We usually drive down and park next to the beach huts/lifeboat building, really love the beach there. We're going back in the October half term.

Enjoy.
