Ryanair baggage confusion

Hi everyone not sure I'm
Pairing in the right area, but here goes,
I'm travelling with the family later this week. Has anyone travelled with Ryanair very recently as their baggage times have changed ?? So I understand you have to take 2 bags on as hand luggage, larger own will be put in hold and the smaller one should be a small bag to go under the seat. So 2 questions:

  • how strict are they with the size of the smaller bag that goes under the seat? As their measurements are for a tiny bag, I've got a small backpack for my daughter I'm sure it will fit under seat but it measures slightly bigger??
  • I've also got 2x 20kg bags checked in, it says the max size for this bag shuld be 81x119x119cm is this correct , as I've got a large suitcase but it's not as large as this and this seems huge
  • for a baby bag for infants it says 5kg allo es to carry on, but I can't see it anywhere confirming if this has a size restriction?? I've got a large backpack as a baby bag for my little one?

Sorry that was 3 questions, Any help would be much appreciated Thanks

I can help with your first question - I do not think they really check the size of the second bag (at least don't at my airport), but it has to fit under the seat in front. I took a larger backpack and had no issues.

re, question 2 - where did you get those measurements?! they cannot be right!

No idea about Q3, sorry

Your hold bag can be basically anything up to the weight restriction but not over the dimensions.
Your cabin baggage must fit either under the seat in front of you or in the overhead locker. If it doesn’t fit it won't be allowed. Yes it’s quite small.
Bag for infants must also fit the dimensions but must be 5kg or less.
You can’t take liquids in your cabin baggage that are over a certain size and must go in a clear plastic bag to be scanned. You can’t take bladed or sharp objects in your hand luggage. No lithium batteries in your hold luggage.

I had a baggage size query with Flybe recently so I tweeted them and they sorted it very quickly.
If you're on Twitter try them directly Smile

I fly Ryanair a lot. I have taken a backpack for 7yo ds, and it sits at his feet rather than under the seat.
Presume you have paid for priority boarding, then you get 2 bags. If there is nothing hugely valuable or essential in the large handluggage bags, I would ask them to put the yellow tag on at the gate.and then you leave it at aircraft steps and they will go in the hold (for free) with your other checkin luggage.
There's always a gun fight for luggage space in the cabin, so the less you have. The better. Ryanair are pretty relaxed. If you take only one carry on each ( including baby's) they won't bat an eyelid

Yes, the dimensions are correct. That is the maximum size that will fit on the plane.

holidayingsoon · 21/08/2018 11:55

Cutlywurly thanks no I don't have priority so they will put 1 bag in hold which is absolutely fine for me. So in total there 6 of us:

  • me taking 1x 20 kg bag to be checked in and no hand luggage
  • my dh 1 x20 kg bag to b checked in no hand luggage
  • dd1 1x 10kg Hans luggage which will go in hold as no priority and 1 small back pack
-dd2 1 small 5kg bag which will go in hold and 1 small back pack -dd3 no bags as her things are in my suitcase -ds is an infant so only taking his 5kg baby bag on board which is a large backpack Does that sound ok?

Luggage Sounds reasonable for 6 people.
Only issue is have you paid to pick your seats close together. Ie, 2 rows of 3

CurlyWurlyTwirly · 21/08/2018 13:17

Also you can take take ds’s stroller up to the steps of the aircraft and they put it in the hold and then leave it at the steps the other end so you have it straight away.

mrs2468 · 21/08/2018 13:21

Just to check have you paid to put your bag on the hold as their policy is you can take you normal cabin baggage on and they will check it on for free but as far as I am aware it still has to fit the dimensions and weight limits for cabin bag. So unless you have paid to check in your 20kg would be too much for example. Unless I've picked you up wrong

PrimalLass · 21/08/2018 13:23

They didn't even look at our bags really.

holidayingsoon · 21/08/2018 23:05

Curlywurly hi yes I've paid for our seats to be together. I've stuck to the dimensions. The only thing is that my 'small' bag that should fit under seat is a little larger and that's what I'm worried about as it has all dds things in it. Any idea if they are strict on that?

OP posts:
holidayingsoon · 21/08/2018 23:06

Mrs2468 hi ta your right iv paid for the 20kg bags to be ch cakes in not the others as like you said they will check them for free but I have stuck to the correct dimensions, thank you

PrimaLass that's good, was that recent ?

OP posts:
holidayingsoon · 21/08/2018 23:08

To be honest I'm worried about the small bag that goes under the seat, my bags are slightly larger than they have said are allowed. Does anyone know if that will be a problem? Thanks

Why would you pay for priority then, since the only advantage of priority is you get to take a full size cabin bag on board?

holidayingsoon · 21/08/2018 23:11

Toomanychildren totally agree, the only benefit is to keep both bags with you but to be honest I'd rather one goes in hold. That's why I didn't pay for priority

OP posts:
holidayingsoon · 21/08/2018 23:21

The under seat size should be 35x20x20. My bag is 32x24x 15 do you think it would be ok ?

OP posts:
toomanychilder · 21/08/2018 23:26

I've travelled several times with ryanair since the new regs and nobody has ever even glanced at our bags. We've brought on rucksacks, handbags, baby bags...and a shoulder bag that frankly could fit a body in it should you choose to fold it up, and not a word. They don't seem to care anymore.

userofthiswebsite · 21/08/2018 23:27

Don't you have a handbag as well to consider with passports, your wallet, hairbrush and all that in it?

Re size wise, not Ryanair to be fair but BA, have flown 4 times with them in the past month and never did a size check on my handbag.

holidayingsoon · 22/08/2018 00:00

Toomanychildren thank you that sounds great you've put my mind at ease now can't wait to start my holiday Smile
