Is there any point keeping a pair of utterly gorgeous shoes you can't possibly ever wear?

Yeah me & the Anthropologie sale a few years back Hmm I bought these incredibly cute black velvet car-to-bar shoes - walking in them is just not possible, though somehow that didn't enter my mind at the time... Having a clear out, keep or chuck?

I have a friend who owns a pair of Jimmy Choos she keeps almost as art work ... she just loves them for the way they look but never actually wears them. If the shoes give you joy OP, then keep them.

Get taxi to venue, walk all of five steps and then sit on a bar stool looking gorgeous in them

Yep, that's definitely what to do with shoes like that. You can't get rid of them, as they are works of art.

Hushabyelullaby · 20/08/2018 21:11

I'd eBay them and buy some equally nice (but comfortable), ones.

@ExileOnMNStreet I'm a wheelchair user too, do you mind me asking how you wear your heels? Do you sit with the heels over the back of the footplate so your feet are flat on it? I have to do that if I'm wearing heels, because if I don't and I try to stand my feet on the footplate, my feet end up sideways resting on my ankles as I can't hold them up (does that make sense?)

See, in a feministy and a practical way I agree with special that heels are bad for your body. And these days I never wear super high ones because I have a toddler, and my partner is only two inches taller than me so I feel odd towering up there.

But, I'm still keeping my ridiculous and lovely 4.5 inch Gina black satin heels, because they remind me of feeling delighted and optimistic and so excited, back when I first bought them. And even though they are the only heels I have ever fallen over in, I remember thinking they were really lovely and being so pleased I could afford them and I could spend my money on something frivolous just for me.

Now if I could bottle that feeling and keep it, I would, but meantime, the shoes do a fine job of reminding me of it! Grin

I have two pairs of Prada heels I can't bear to throw out. I can't wear them as they have very big heels and I'm taller than DH in them so makes me feel uncomfortable. I think I only bought them because both pairs were in sale and they're so pretty.
I can't even bear to sell them. They'll just live in my wardrobe forever.

Verbena87 · 20/08/2018 21:29

Keep them for fucking in, surely?! Wink

UpstartCrow · 20/08/2018 21:32

Do they bring you joy? If yes, keep them.

lucysmam · 20/08/2018 21:43

OP you missed out the photo of these lovely shoes so we can help you make your decision to keep them because you love them

I gave away a lot of my shoes when we moved into our last (very, very, tiny) house. But I kept my favourites! & they occasionally come out to play. I amaze myself that I can still walk in them when I do wear them.

BubblesBubblesBubbles · 20/08/2018 21:49

I have a few pairs like this Blush

Those £600 louboutin’s which have been out of the box, looked at with love then put away again...no simple way I could walk in 120mm heels!!

And my Choo’s again looked at lovingly then put away, and my manolo’s beautiful they are but I could never walk in them.

I can’t bring my self to sell them.

BubblesBubblesBubbles · 20/08/2018 21:49

I’d never get my money back for them either Grin that’s my excuse!!

OutPinked · 20/08/2018 21:56

I’ve got loads of heels I either can’t walk in or can but they fucking kill. I bought beautiful heels two NYE’s ago and my feet were pouring with blood... never again but they’re still on my shoe rack Blush.

Roxers · 20/08/2018 21:59

We need to see them

Reaa · 20/08/2018 22:03

I wear mine around the house to cheer me up, even if only for 5 mins but it works and makes me smile.

Furx · 20/08/2018 22:03

exile I was admiring a pair of wildly impractical Irregular Choice shoes, and lamenting I’d never wear them because Id never be able to walk in them.

A lady in a wheelchair rolled up behind me and said something on the lines of it being the only advantage of a spinal injury meaning she would never walk again, was that she could indulge her love of shoes it was impossible to walk in.

I was lost for words. (And she was wearing amazing shoes)

BikeRunSki · 20/08/2018 22:05

exile. How cool are you??!!! Smile

I have size 9 feet. No pretty shoes have ever been designed for big feet without being engineered for a 17 stone man. I broke my ankle when I was 12 anyway, and heels are not my friend.

Earlier this year, our local charity shop was donated about 30 pairs of very high, very elaborate in all sorts of patterns, colours, embellishments etc. All size 6, all amazing in their own right, but utterly fabulous as a collection. Very unexpected for a little Yorkshire Pennine village.

JynxaSmoochum · 20/08/2018 22:07

I sometimes keep the beauties that I was ecstatic that I could get my feet in before realising that was about my limit as otherwise I wouldn't own any gorgeous shoes. To channel Marie Kondo, do they bring you joy?

Sadly my feet only tolerate one style of fancy shoe and it's not in fashion this decade.

bottledatsource · 20/08/2018 22:08

I've got a pair of Jimmy Choos. They are glaringly casually on show in my bedroom

Boroncarbon · 20/08/2018 22:21

These are my babies, please don't hurt my feelings and tell me they're crap. They look better in real life. No high heel though. This is my limit.

Keep them! I love shoes.

Boroncarbon · 20/08/2018 22:26

I used to have an amazing pair of the softest leather white kitten heels from Russell & Bromley that I wore when I got married as my 'something old'. They got scuffed and I chucked them. I regret it now as they were beautiful and you could dance all night in them & I've since found an amazing shoe repair place that can make white leather like new again.

For you Louboutin fans out there, did you know there are places you can get the red bottoms re-done? even if they're not actually Louboutin's

PenelopeShitStop · 20/08/2018 22:32

These are clearly Taxi Totterers and only to be worn as you totter from the taxi to the first bar stool within reach. Life is too short to not have beautiful shoes.

lucysmam · 20/08/2018 22:36

Definitely keep them Boron, even if it's only to admire them every now and again. My absolute favourite shoes are my cinderella shoes - very sparkly, pale blue, with a very high heel. I have nothing to wear them with any more & tbh don't go far either. But I get them out every now and again to look at because they make me smile.

Roxers · 20/08/2018 22:37

Oh I love them

Ollivander84 · 20/08/2018 22:41

I have just bought these Blush
