Healthy eating-what do you eat when you fancy cake/chocolate please?

When the wether turns I always fancy a nice bit of cake or chocolate with a cup of tea.... I’m trying to stop processed/high sugar stuff and lose half a stone. What do you teach for that’s healthy when you want cake please?

Hand full of nuts; full fat Greek yoghurt.

slowrun · 19/08/2018 14:11

A very small potion of something incredibly rich. My current favourite is a single dark chocolate raspberry gin truffle.

Fruit. Good quality fruit.

I definitely don't manage this every time but sometimes I find having something really salty or savoury such as olives takes away my craving for sweet things.

BigBlueBubble · 19/08/2018 14:13

I just eat the cake or chocolate. Life is too short not to. Then I go for a long brisk day walk when the weather brightens up.

BasicSAHM · 19/08/2018 14:14

I’d go for dark chocolate or bake up a healthy treat and store in freezer so it’ll keep longer.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 19/08/2018 14:14

I've not found any effective substitute, but one square of dark chocolate or a small slice of chocolate malt loaf does the trick without doing too much damage.

Idontbelieveinthemoon · 19/08/2018 14:14

I keep Ben and Jerry's in the freezer for those moments. I have a few spoonfuls then put it back for next time.

I also keep mini marshmallows in the baking cupboard. A handful of those and I'm on a sugar high for hours.

Tawdrylocalbrouhaha · 19/08/2018 14:15

Mind you one square of the Lidl bars I buy is actually not that small.

Bubblemagic11 · 19/08/2018 14:18

I keep a bag of mints in the cupboard and just have a couple of those which do the trick

BasicSAHM · 19/08/2018 14:18

For example I make chocolate chip cookies with just oats, dark chocolate chips, and mashed banana for my girls. Fairly wholesome sweet tooth fix.

Ilmb · 19/08/2018 14:21

basic thank you, I think that’s what I’m after....

I can’t just eat 2 spoonfuls of Ben and Jerry’s, I would keep eating so I don’t keep it in Blush

The sod it and eat it, go for a walk thing is the attitude I had that has made me put on half a stone and I’m not happy like this so that doesn’t work for me.

I don’t like dark chocolate, have tried that... I don’t keep any chocolate in the house otherwise I eat it! Any dark chocolate that is nice and not bitter and rich?

Rich tea lights. Two at a time.
Peppermint tea.
A Sula sweet.

slowrun · 19/08/2018 14:34

llmb dark chocolates do vary in their bitterness. The cocoa variety can makes a huge difference. The richness means there less sugar which means you are less likely to binge. Milk chocolate wise Green and Black's milk chocolate I find is rich enough to be satisfied with a very small piece. You can suck it to make it last longer.

WasFatNowThin · 19/08/2018 14:43

Dark chocolate for me, I want less of it than the sweet stuff.

kaytee87 · 19/08/2018 14:55

A bowl of porridge made with milk and a spot of honey?

HelenaJustina · 19/08/2018 14:56

Dark chocolate or a Kallo dark chocolate rice cake.

RapidlyGoingMad · 19/08/2018 14:58

Is anyone else a bit Confused?

The OP asks for healthy alternatives to cake/chocolate and gets truffles, ice cream, marshmallows and biscuits back?

slowrun · 19/08/2018 15:04

Rapidly, with chocolate it is the quantity. High cocoa solid varieties offer very little sugar, in the quantities you need to eat, to get a chocolate 'hit'. Cocoa also is nutritious in itself.

RapidlyGoingMad · 19/08/2018 15:07

And the ice cream, marshmallows and biscuits slow?

BrightonBB · 19/08/2018 15:11

Toothpaste ..... Brush your teeth - I never feel like eating anything sweet straight after teeth cleaning. Sorry not quite what you were asking!!

0ccamsRazor · 19/08/2018 15:11

100% cacao chocolate, plain nuts, home dehydrated fruit.

userofthiswebsite · 19/08/2018 15:13

If you want something with a good sugar hit, dried cranberries are really sweet and very low calorie.

Plus they're teeny so a handful lasts a while.

Fatbelliedgirl · 19/08/2018 15:15

Protein - e.g. nuts, cheese or hard boiled eggs. Or lots of water.

0ccamsRazor · 19/08/2018 15:16

Or a homemade smoothie with oats, coconut flour, almond flour, beetroot, apples and banana.
