Hi, just wid wring if anyone has opinions about Tesco/Asda school shoes compared to Clark's? Just seen some. Look pretty sturdy and say they're scuff resistance but will they be as supportive? Is it worth spending the extra? DD is 7. Thanks.

We just got Asda yesterday about 13 quid they are amazing very sturdy
Last year we had Tesco, they lasted the whole year really nicely but Asda seem more stable and supportive

birdling · 19/08/2018 11:16

I bought the Tesco ones last year. Never again, they looked terrible shortly afterwards and collapsed inside long before they were outgrown. I buy start rite now.

DDs Clark's got ruined in about Oct last year. I bought a pair of Asda shoes as a stop gap, £12.50 and they lasted until the end of the year, they were great.

Tiredmum100 · 19/08/2018 11:20

I usually buy Clarks. I find they last the whole year. I bought a pair in asda once, they lasted one week before there was a hole in them. I like asda for clothes etc, but just find my boys need really sturdy shoes. Not tried anything else.

BiggerBoat1 · 19/08/2018 11:25

My DS had a pair of Asda shoes that lasted all year. Now we get his shoes in Sports Direct because he's obsessed with the place. Their shoes also lasted all year, but were much more expensive than Asda.

leccybill · 19/08/2018 11:27

I bought Kickers in Wynsors for £28 and they looked good as new after the entire year.

dingit · 19/08/2018 11:30

Try sports direct

popocatepetals · 19/08/2018 11:33

A while ago now, but I seem to remember the dcs having shoes from Asda that lasted well, we also used to occasionally find some in Woolworths (shows how long ago I'm talking about!), Tesco, Sainsburys and also Peacocks.

Chipsahoy · 19/08/2018 12:38

We always get sports direcr, named brand but cheap. Did school shoe shop in half an hr there on Wednesday. We were there for when they opened and they had tons of choice. Cost me 30 pounds for both pairs I bought (two children, size 1 and a size 3 pair of Lonsdale black shoes).

feral · 19/08/2018 12:43

DS has Geox last year and the lasted nearly all year but he grew out of them first!

Justabadwife · 19/08/2018 12:49

I always like to have dds feet measured and get proper fitted school shoes, as she spends 7 hours a day in them. But she has had shoes from asda before and they were fine. She had some really nice boots that she wore the whole of winter one year.
I buy her trainers from sports direct and they are also really good.

lola212121 · 19/08/2018 12:52

I think boys need a stronger shoe compared to girls just because of what they get up to at playtime.
Kickers for us

BakewellGin1 · 19/08/2018 12:53

DS has always had Asda school shoes since trashing a pair of Clarks in approx 4 days.
He had two pairs over the full year last year (one till Feb then another till Summer).
They withstood football at play times and lunch times too so bonus. Hoping for same again this year !!

Gileswithachainsaw · 19/08/2018 12:56

Kickers
Dms
Geox

They do all over foot coverage of if you don't want the stupid Mary janes from startrite and Clark's.

bookmum08 · 19/08/2018 12:57

Shoe Zone is where I get my daughter's. And that includes when she went through her 'boys shoes' phase.

Leicesterpiggott · 19/08/2018 17:10

Thanks all! Great advice. What about John Lewis? They look like they have quite decent looking own brand school shoes now...

I have the same dilemma here. I dont know if my son is going to grow out of his school shoes before they wear out. Went to all the kids shops are Westfield yesterday and Im definitely missing a trick here with Sports Direct and perhaps Asda. Nothing was less than £40!! He'll be playing football in the playground I expect and I cant see how they'll last a whole year.

BewareOfDragons · 03/09/2018 12:26

We have very good luck with Clarks, but they are expensive.

Geox are also very good,

I did buy a pair of school shoes from Debenhams one spring, because of a growth spurt in one of the kids ... they lasted 24 school days. Dreadful shoes, fully destroyed. I returned them for a full refund..

PurpleCrazyHorse · 03/09/2018 13:33

DD usually has Clarks but last year they only lasted from Sept to Jan and looked pretty knackered a while before they finally fell apart. We got Kickers instead and despite being patent, they're still looking great and DD will go back to school in them in September.

DS has a pair of £18 Sainsburys school shoes and they feel very sturdy, he's on in nursery though but we'll see how they last.

PurpleCrazyHorse · 03/09/2018 13:34

Just bought DD shoes in the next size up in the Sports Direct sale, will be keeping an eye there for shoes, got some great bargains on PE trainers and some skate shoes.

TokyoSushi · 03/09/2018 13:38

DD had one pair of Clarks & 2 x pairs of Asda last year, she's a dainty 5 year old and these were dainty shoes to match, all dreadful and fell apart quickly. DS had 1 pair of Geox which lasted all year but were definitely on their last legs at the end.

This year DD has paintent Kickers t-bar, they look indestructible but we'll see!

AlexanderHamilton · 03/09/2018 13:39

When dd was little I bought her a pair from Asda for the simple reason that Clarks didn't have any that fitted depth wise. They were brilliant and lasted ages.

Sadly after that supermarket shoes have not fitted due to dd's very wide and ds's very narrow foot.

With Clarks and Start-Rite you are paying for the fitting. if you have a child who is not a standard fitting with no unusual characteristics eg high instep, narrow ankes etc then supermarket shopes are find as ong as you have the knowledge and confidence to ensure they fit correctly.

4yearsnosleep · 03/09/2018 13:44

In my view @lola212121 girls shoes need to be as sturdy and supportive as boys shoes, especially with my DD! We went for Clark's last year and they lasted well all year and she's really hard on her footwear. As they lasted so well last year, I've gone for the same this year. Although I chose a sturdier style, not the ridiculous ballet pump type nor ones with 'toy' in the heel.

I did order a pair from M&S last year but they looked really plasticky and were really heavy so they went back.

museumum · 03/09/2018 13:48

The only time we’ve tried supermarket leather shoes they’ve given horrible blisters.

I will only buy canvas summer shoes or wellies from supermarkets now.
