Hi, just wid wring if anyone has opinions about Tesco/Asda school shoes compared to Clark's? Just seen some. Look pretty sturdy and say they're scuff resistance but will they be as supportive? Is it worth spending the extra? DD is 7. Thanks.

Geox are our staples. I have DSs with slow growing feet and they last the year unlike Clarkes which fall apart half way through.

M&S are usually good for tiding over. (Although it was their trainers that DS (5) destroyed in one day at holiday club)

DD’s Asda shoes at £15 have lasted her a year and still look like new. Clark’s didn’t last a full term at £44 Angry

No recent experience but I used to buy the kids school shoes from Next. They used to sell leather ones which I always preferred.

I was a manager of a Clarks kids department for 5 years. You really are just payong for the fitting. Yes they do use good quality materials, but if you buy leather from elsewhere it's still coming from the same type of cow. I have a dd with very shallow feet and nothing in Clarks would fit. After a very challenging day shoe shopping I finally found some leather shoes in shoezone for £15.

I stopped buying from Clarks when they stopped making girls shoes with proper soles. My DD2 is very hard on shoes and would walk though the soles within 3 weeks.

I've have got the last 2 years from Next or Amazon the company is called Toughees. They have had the best sole on them and have lasted most of the school year,

AlexanderHamilton · 03/09/2018 14:25

Toughees are great. Ds had them one year from a local independent shoe shop but they stopped stocking them because parents wanted Clarks.

Start rite are better than Clarks imo. Although they both scuff quite easily Angry

The Sainsbury’s ‘toe zone’ range of shoes are fantastic ignore you can get hold of them. They seem to sell out very early in the summer holidays around here.

*if, not ignore!!

lola, not sure if you have any daughters? why would girls not need sturdy shoes?

It infuriates me that I have so little choice of decent shoes for my daughters once I have filtered out all the impractical ones with loads of holes (because girls also go in puddles and mud), pointless trinkets, etc

girls climb, play, run, get dirty, really they do!
