Dyson has been on the wonk for a while and I'd made my mind up to 'treat' myself to a new Shark when it dies... well, it died today whilst I was out and DH has bought a replacement... a new Dyson 😭😭

I'm prepared to LTB unless you lovely people can convince me he's saved me from a dreadful mistake!

(Lighthearted obvs, I won't LTB I am giving him the silent treatment though)

I love Shark vacuums so much I've got 2. Blush

GruffaloStick · 18/08/2018 19:24

Sorry OP. They're awesome
Atthebottomof I have one of those, there's a sponge thing and a fabric disk under the dust collecting thing (canister?) in the shark, you're supposed to wash it once a month in clean water and leave to dry. I do it when I remember. I don't remember cleaning the Dyson that regularly or where the filter was, maybe that's why it was shit

Unsure123123 · 18/08/2018 19:25

Love mine. Sorry

You can buy replacement filters for the shark quite reasonably to swap them over whole one set is drying. They are v easy to clean though.

BE18mum · 18/08/2018 19:33

Just got the £189 corded lift away one from AO after having a dyson. Really pleased with it and so much easier for stairs.

AgathaF · 18/08/2018 19:34

Miele, the only vacuum worth having.

Flooffloof · 18/08/2018 19:39

Ah, not keen on my few weeks old shark.
Bought cos of reviews saying brilliant on pet hair, I spend more time getting clumps of dog hairs out of the brush than hoovering. I also have to pick up chunks of wood (dogs have wood chewing habits) before using.
I do have a long haired dog but the Dyson was better at getting it up.
On the other hand there are a million configurations and it's bloody easy to use, cord is very long, filters easy to find and refit, easy to empty, good on stairs.

Atthebottomofthesea · 18/08/2018 20:10

Sounds a winner. No pets here so no worries there. Have one reserved at Argos. 50mile round trip but it is a bargain.

littlecabbage · 18/08/2018 21:16

@TomHardysNextWife

- my only criticism is that it has a tendency to topple over when you're using the hoze/nozzle.

This happens to me too, but when I asked if ot happened to other users on Amazon, they all said no?! How do you get it to not happen I wonder? Major design flaw IMO, but I forgive it because it is otherwise ace.

DameSquashalot · 18/08/2018 21:27

BTW my Shark can't be used to vacuum broken glass. It can damage the filter.

FlyingMonkeys · 18/08/2018 21:31

DB owns a Shark plus two very hairy dogs. I'm a Dyson girl but get him to fetch it around every now and again. I love the 'carpet pile line's'. Totally awesome if a bit fugly. I will opt for one on an upgrade.

FlyingMonkeys · 18/08/2018 21:33

Will add my mum has a Dyson v10 and I don't rate that.

9GreenBottles · 18/08/2018 21:38

I can only say that the dust compartment is a bit small, apart from that...

SomeKnobend · 18/08/2018 21:39

We have hard floors everywhere and pets. The shark is great. Don't worry, the bloody dyson will break pretty soon and then you can get a shark!

Baaaaaaaaaaaa · 18/08/2018 22:13

I’ve had Dysons. I’ve had Mieles. I have three Sharks. Corded, lift away Sharks. Would I swap one of my Sharks for any other make? No! I would not.

I have hard floors. I have carpets I have a moulting labrador. I have two flights of stairs.

I LOVE Shark vacuums.

Sorry you have to put up with a Dyson (I gave my brand new Dyson to my son to take to uni, I would NEVER have one again).

Atthebottomofthesea · 18/08/2018 22:46

Found one closer to home. Going in the morning for it.

OP - Just refuse to use it, Dysons really are a pile of pants. It is the filter that really lets it down, we had it replaced quite recently and it is now all ripped and full of solid dust that can't be removed, it then gets wet when washed and ends up smelling like wet dog whenever you vac. As long as the Shark doesn't do this - I'm good.

TowerRingInferno · 18/08/2018 22:52

Shark are good, Miele are better (for dog hair). Dyson are shit.

00100001 · 18/08/2018 22:56

I have SEBO it’s the dogs, buy one of those instead. Sell your Dyson, someone will snap it up. Join the SEBO party.

NewUserNameTime · 18/08/2018 22:58

❤️ my Shark Deovleab corded. Much better than a Dyson! We're a non-pet household over three floors, with a mix of carpet, laminate and wood

Atthebottomofthesea · 18/08/2018 23:05

My Mum has a SEBO - it is good, but I quite like the lift away on the Shark.

I have considered selling the dyson, it has loads of accessories as well. I feel bad though charging someone to take away my big fat load of rubbish (plus they will need a new filter). Though if I still it for £25 I can get the wheely attachment thing.

I am a little too excited.

MervynBunter · 18/08/2018 23:22

Love the Shark. Lighter and easier to use than our old Dyson and emptying is much simpler. Sorry OP.

MrsRyanGosling15 · 18/08/2018 23:28

Shark is SHIT!! Sorry for shouting Grin we have the shark lift away and I absolutely hate it. It's crap, the lift away bit is too heavy. The suction is rubbish. I laugh at the adverts lifting up bowling balls. Mine can hardly lift a marble. My dh bought it and I just point blank refuse to use it therefore he has to do every bit of hoovering. Every time it comes out, there is an argument. He never even asked me about it, just came home one day after believing the stupid ads. I'm actually just going to dump it without telling him. He loves the bloody thing but the carpets never look clean. Our cleaner hates them too. She bringd her own to the houses of people who have Sharks. Sorry can't over.

NonaGrey · 18/08/2018 23:35

Love my Shark, never going back to a Dyson.

gumdropbuttons · 18/08/2018 23:41

I HATED my shark lift away corded vacuum cleaner. Honestly I don’t understand the fuss at all!
Very bulky and heavy. Gives you an achy arm just dragging it around one room. Suction not even that amazing. My cheap pet vax vacuum has equally as good suction. Particularly rubbish on hard flooring.
Just do not get the love for them.
Half tempted to try the cordless ones if they’re less heavy though

MazDazzle · 18/08/2018 23:57

I had a Shark Lift Away corded. Hated it! So fiddly. I once swallowed up a muslin square and couldn’t find it. Had to take it to bits. Still couldn’t find it. Far too many nooks and crannies. Eventually I took it apart (to the extent I couldn’t get it back together) and finally found it.

Also, as PPs have said, it topples when you use the hose attachment. It drove me mad. All that toppling and subsequent yanking on the hose caused the hose to split. They sent a replacent. It happened again!

It’s an overpriced piece of crap that they flog on info-mercials. Customer service is good though. They sent me a new hose first time, second time they sent me an upgrade. It’s still in the box because I splashed out in a Dyson!
