Yellow curry stains on cream cotton dress - any magic solution?

Just that really - one of my favourite summer dresses - looks like I’ll need to bin it. Sad

You might as well bleach the entire dress first if it's a bin-it situation, in case that can make it wearable again. OR make it into a skirt or otherwise reinvent it, depending on where the stain is.

You can get some great stain removers - try some powdered ones from Tescos

I soak mine in a bowl for 3-4 days and it does work - just not immediately

Just got blood stain out of a yellow shirt - took 4 days

You have nothing to lose

DaphneFanshaw · 17/08/2018 23:16

Milton steralising tabs are great for stains. I managed to get curry poo out of a white baby grow with them.
They might ruin the material but if it’s fucked anyway, you’ve got nothing to lose.

I reckon Wondermoonin is right, but hopefully someone else will have a solution.

ACE clothes bleach. Deals with most stains!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/08/2018 23:20

Sunlight.

Wash, then hang in the sun.

nononsene · 17/08/2018 23:21

Sunshine is an amazing stain remover.

NoParticularPattern · 17/08/2018 23:23

Violets mineral bleach and then stick it in the line in the sun. If that fails then go all out with a bleach soak if it’s a case of bin it or die trying! What temp was it initially washed at? Because if it was over 30 it will likely have set the stain anyway (although curry really is bloody awful to get out of clothes!!)

Thumbellini · 17/08/2018 23:23

Vanish powder and leave it out to dry in the sun. Sounds weird but it always works for me!

DrMadelineMaxwell · 17/08/2018 23:25

UV is great for breaking down stains gently.

wowfudge · 17/08/2018 23:26

Sunlight - even leaving it on a windowsill with the stain showing will work.

NoTeaNoShadeNoPinkLemonade · 17/08/2018 23:27

spray on some elbow grease and rinse once or twice

TonsilTits · 17/08/2018 23:28

Try dying, tie dying or die trying.

justcontemplatingsomething · 17/08/2018 23:29

I had similar recently and after much googling I rubbed washing up liquid into it, put white vinegar on it and soaked it in cold water for a few hours. Then washed on a 40 degree wash and hung out in the sunshine and it pretty much came out. I can sort of see it still if I look closely but i don't trying anyone else would notice it.

Magpiesarehuge · 17/08/2018 23:30

Thanks for the advice - might give some a go. Suprised at all the “sunlight” posts - never ever heard of that.

*I don't think.....not I don't trying 🙄

Magpiesarehuge · 17/08/2018 23:32

Just attacked the stains with cold water and soap before i posted - the stains are now pink/red. How could one tine bit of dropped mushroom have made such a mess!

yes sunlight definitely; just in bright sunshine on the washing line, gets out bolognaise stains anyway! Good luck x

Sun light, it really does work.
Turmeric is UV fugitive.

Licketysplits · 17/08/2018 23:37

Sunlight definitely. Got several curry stains out of DHs t-shirts that way

ozymandiusking · 17/08/2018 23:40

Failing all those great suggestions, what about dyeing it a colour that would cover the stain.
Another idea, I used to wear white blouses for school, my mother would bleach them by mistake, and they used to go cream ( I don't know why.) My father who was a photographer would then rinse them in a solution of potassium permanganate, (purple crystals) which would turn them violet, then rinse them in a solution of potassium metabisulphite which would then turn them white. Very exciting. You can buy these products online. Good luck with whatever you do.

CranberryCrush · 17/08/2018 23:41

I restore antique linens which can be pretty delicate. For your stain I would soak it in lemon juice and leave it in direct sunlight for as long as it takes to disappear. Can be a couple of days of intense sunshine if it's a stubborn one.

Jupiter9 · 17/08/2018 23:43

Throw it in the bin 😂

Magpiesarehuge · 17/08/2018 23:49

Ooh - really excited to try the sunshine and see what happens. On holiday and it’s quite bulky so if it was definitely a lost cause would have binned it to leave more room for the 2 dresses I’ve just bought.

Try Napisan, it's a powdered wash detergent I use for my baby's clothes that are unfortunate enough to get bright yellow poo on them. Leave the dress to soak for 24 hours and then stick in the washing machine.
