Bean to cup machines

Filter jug is knackered and I have a hankering for a posh bean to cup instead of replacing the jug.

Tell me about yours please

I have a De Longhi.

Have had it for 5 years and it hasnt broken down yet.
Grew up with them. My parents have them in both houses. My sister has one that they got her for Christmas about 4 years ago.
I got my one for Christmas 5 years ago, 6 years ago this Christmas.
It's fab and I love it.
Don't use the frothier very often.
can also take ground coffee eg if someone uses decaf.
Bin in it is a good size

It is noisy though that's my only gripe if you live in a house where sound travels!

Troika · 15/08/2018 14:11

Thank you. So you can make two cups at once with that? Does it make different sizes (eg espresso or a mug full?) How often do you empty the grounds, after every cup?

I have the same delonghi and it's a great machine.

You can make any size by adjusting the settings. The grounds fall into a holder in the machine and you empty that each time it's full. It makes quite a few cups before you need to empty that bin.

DGRossetti · 15/08/2018 14:16

another +1 for DeLonghi here.

mightbemarkedforever · 15/08/2018 14:17

I make one cup at a time
You can have a single or a double shot come out at once
the spouts are too close together to put two cups
You can make an espresso or a long coffee the knob on the left does the size of the coffee and the one on the right does the strength
Change the bin every 2-3 days but we drink so much coffee in the house
I buy beans online in bulk for about 12£ a bag I think maybe less ok ok ok my husband buys them but it's good value
Must be less
We use the Lavazza beans cremoso or something in a bronze bag

The light shows you for the water tank
And the same for the bin
You fill up beans say 1- 2 times a week keep them in the freezer to keep them fresh

We aren't anal with the machine though but I know some people who are and like polish it out and crap every day

Also another thing I like is it's not mains connected so it doesn't need a pipe for that it's just one plug for the power!

Troika · 15/08/2018 14:21

Sounds great. Bit deceptive with the picture of the two cups then! Does it take long to make? My filter jug is from the 70’s and dp hates me using it because it takes so long!

OP posts:
Sofabitch · 15/08/2018 14:21

I love mine! Can make all sorts.

Empty the bin every few days. But we drink a lot of coffee.

Espresso or long coffee and everything in between at the touch of a button.

I can make 2 coffees at once. But i always put 2 coffees in one cup. Takes under 1 minute.

yorkshireyummymummy · 15/08/2018 14:25

It totally depends on your budget.
We have a deLonghi too and it’s been great - it’s made over 10,000 espresso! We use it every day, and use the frother daily too.
We know it’s not going to last forever but we couldn’t be without it now.
It must have saved us thousands over the years.
Hubby fancies a Jura next time .
Have a look at John Lewis - they sometimes have good offers on the machines they sell. If you are not in a rush the sales after Christmas will be the best place to pick up an offer.

We have a Delonghi with an automatic milk jug that can go in the fridge. Bought it 8 years ago. In that time it’s had two services, including a new boiler (£150 service charge that time) and also a new milk jug. But it’s still going. We buy wanky coffee beans from a local roaster at £25+ a kilo Grin

When it needed the new boiler I was torn with replacing the whole thing but they are loads more expensive now (or at least the fully automated ones are). Depends on how many milky coffees you make. Ours was a god send when I was on mat leave with the kids, no time to stand around frothing milk., plus no waste.

DGRossetti · 15/08/2018 14:32

We got our deLonghi after buying a smaller one (reduced from £129 to £49 in Sainsburys) and registering it with them for the warranty and coffee club.

We had an email offering us a £400 machine for £180 - so jumped at it. It was a black Friday deal a couple of years ago.

Most use it gets is the frother .... I love tea lattes as much as coffee.

These beans I think
And also some from Rave

I like the sound of the wanky ones. Might go see my local roast place.

mightbemarkedforever · 15/08/2018 14:41

Oh and it takes like 40 seconds to go from off to ready to use
And like 20 for a coffee to come out

I heat milk in microwave

bonzo77 · 15/08/2018 14:52

We have the delonghi in the first link. Love it. Beans from Aldi. Descale as soon as it tells you to.

Troika · 15/08/2018 15:09

Do you think the integrated milk jug is worth it Damsonwhine? DP drinks white coffee and loves lattes, I drink a mixture. There’s quite a jump in price to get a fully automatic one...

Troika · 15/08/2018 15:13

I’m hoping one will come up in Black Friday deals so I can have it for Christmas. Otherwise will ask for contributions for Christmas and get one in sales. I’m pregnant at the moment so not drinking much coffee anyway (and dp is happy with instant)

Delonghi Magnifica - have had it for six years, maybe seven, making coffee every single day, and it is quite incredible. I love it, and love buying nice beans to put in it.

We never use the milk frother - DH has his black and I just add milk from the fridge.

You will never look back.

Sofabitch · 15/08/2018 15:36

We love the auto milk Froth function.

But I'm a latte girl

SinkGirl · 15/08/2018 15:42

Our Delonghi has just died after five years. It has the automatic milk jug which is awesome. Now contemplating a new one but not sure I can go back to the faff of manually frothing milk but the ones with milk jugs are so expensive.

We got ours on eBay, it was an unwanted competition prize so brand new and sealed and half the retail price. Best bargain I’ve ever had.

Just been looking at the Melitta Caffeo Solo with Perfect Milk which seems like a good in between. Not sure if it will be as good.

Costco has the same De’Longhi as we have for under £500 which is a bargain - it’s the Eletta Cappucino Top.

gingercat02 · 15/08/2018 15:59

We have the Magnifica too. It's fabulous. You can make 2 cups but it uses the same beans for 1 or 2 so it's less strong if you use two cups. You can adjust the strength and cup size, from single shot espresso to a reasonable size mug. You need to empty it after about 6-8 cups and descale it around twice a year (we have vvvv hard water) but they send you a couple of descalers with it and if you join the coffee club they send you some too. I haven't bought ant yet
You'll get it for less than £200 on Amazon

gingercat02 · 15/08/2018 16:03

Oh we never use the frother btw. DH has black and I just like a splash of cold milk

Usernumbers1234 · 15/08/2018 16:12

Got the Sage Barista Express (expensive, but might be able to pick up a second hand, I’ve got friends who upgraded and sold on).
It’s been great, but never used anything else so hard to compare. My gut feeling is that the coffee tastes pretty similar in all of the bean to cup machines and all you are paying extra for as you move up the ladder is how shiny and aesthetically pleasing it is and maybe a bit of convenience and speed (the dual boiler ones are really fast if you are making a few at once).

What I would say is definitely make the move to bean to Cup regardless of what model you choose. Im not exaggerating to say its been amazing. Great fun finding and trying different coffees. It tastes so much better than any pod machines. The main problem is I’m now never happy with coffee other than at home, even the high street chains are disappointing from their industrial machines because I’ve developed a preference for certain types.

TheKatInTheHat · 15/08/2018 16:17

We just bought the Eletta machine from Costco yesterday. So far it’s been easy to set up and I’ve thoroughly scunnered myself on milky coffees!

MeetOnTheLedge · 15/08/2018 16:21

I'm hankering after one as well, we have a Nespresso which is good but I do feel the capsules are wasteful even though we recycle. What has put me off bean to cup is that I mainly drink decaff and DH drinks normal so its good to know there are ways round it. Space is also an issue - are any if your machines particularly compact? Should I go to John Lewis and look at them all?
