If you had a bad night with your small DD last night...

And perhaps your DH wasn't as D as he might have been. And perhaps you're a bit worried that your neighbour is annoyed about the noise, said neighbour would like to reassure you that she remembers this age and has a few war stories of her own. Said neighbour would also like to point out that, while said neighbour is out today, generally she is at home with access to criminally strong coffee should you require it.

Said neighbour will not be coming round or mentioning last night at all because said neighbour does not want you to feel embarrassed or obliged in any way but said neighbour is pretty confident you're a mumsnetter so hopes that, if nothing else, this post will relieve any worries on that score and let you know that you are always welcome for a chat and a moan if you need it. Said neighbour is hoping that today is a more restful day for you and that DD is doing okay.

Much love, sympathy and fellow feeling.

Aw! Wish they were all like you, said

Timeforabiscuit · 15/08/2018 08:20

Horray for common ground and strong coffee!

earlybirdhasanap · 15/08/2018 08:21

You're not my neighbour but I wish you were!

Mrsbclinton · 15/08/2018 08:22

What a lovely neighbour you are x

FrozenMargarita17 · 15/08/2018 08:22

Aw that's so nice. Bless you Op

GinIsIn · 15/08/2018 08:22

Please move in next door to me

oooompa · 15/08/2018 08:24

Oh god, this post has me paranoid that you're MY neighbour! You don't live in a downstairs flat do you?! Shock

SaidNeighbour · 15/08/2018 08:26

Not a flat, so not you, but don't be paranoid @ooompa! That's the whole point!

Aww you sound like a lovely neighbour! Smile Our neighbour has kindly left us alone too but I've no idea what she thinks about us (I'd love if she felt like this).
For the first 5 weeks our LO was waking (and screaming) every 20 mins throughout the day and night Confused. I was trying to grab her each time before it got loud as we live in an apartment with paper-thin walls. Now she's 8 wks and only waking 3 times a night thank god Blush

PsychoPumpkin · 15/08/2018 08:33

Aww how lovely. I hope the person you’re writing about reads this!

oooompa · 15/08/2018 08:33

My neighbour is as lovely as you sound OP, I just hate the thought that we probably wake her up constantly and she probably here's my 2am "I'm just so tired" cry, even though I KNOW she wouldn't mind!

Whatamuddleduck · 15/08/2018 08:39

Phew! We had a good night, otherwise you could be my neighbour!
You sound lovely. Our neighbours simply said they remembered those days when dd was newborn . The other side thoughtfully stopped blaring music.
Strong coffee sounds good though!

DidimusStench · 15/08/2018 08:54

Erm.... how old is the DD?

This might be me....

DidimusStench · 15/08/2018 08:55

I DO actually have lovely neighbours too

holycityzoo · 15/08/2018 09:02

You sound like a lovely neighbour.

Badgerthebodger · 15/08/2018 09:06

My neighbour came round with a cake when DS was about 5 weeks old and still undiagnosed as having a milk allergy. He never stopped screaming and I was absolutely on my knees. I’d been up all week night and was crying my eyes out in the kitchen and thought she was the HV knocking or I wouldn’t have answered. She sort of very gently managed to manoeuvre herself in the door, take the baby, give me a hug and pass me the cake. At this point I was just crying my eyes out and she kept saying don’t worry don’t worry, it gets better I promise. She was so lovely, I think she saved my sanity that day! So, OP hurrah for neighbours like you!

SaidNeighbour · 15/08/2018 09:06

@DidimusStench DD is around 2. Whether it's you or not, sorry you had a bad night (and honestly, while it was heard, it really wasn't a problem - the only thing we felt was total sympathy). I truly believe the vast majority of people would feel the same way - we all know parenting is hard and children make noise.

Much love to everyone out there who is having a difficult time with a small person. This too shall pass and one day you will be the one looking on sympathetically at the harassed mum in the supermarket or the tired neighbour and you can offer coffee and a shoulder to them.

I love this OP

PurpleMac · 15/08/2018 09:10

You are the neighbour I want to be when I grow up Grin

We live in a semi and my elderly neighbour sometimes comments if DS has had a bad day or night but always caveats it with "I hardly ever hear him though, he's such a good little boy".

Our other neighbour is out of the country a lot but when he's home he makes such a fuss of DS when he plays in the garden that I know the noise can't really bother him. So I guess I'm lucky!

SaidNeighbour · 15/08/2018 09:14

@Badgerthebodger What a fantastic story! What a gorgeous person! That's really made me smile.

DidimusStench · 15/08/2018 09:18

Nope, it’s not me. My DD is somewhat younger. My neighbour is as lovely as you sound though.

Small DidimusStench was awake and shouting every hour from 10.30 until 6.30 last night, for absolutely no reason at all as far as I could see and there was a point where i asked my usually very good DH to take her and I got an ‘in a minute’ to which I said through gritted teeth, probably louder than it should’ve been, ‘I’ve been feeding her all fucking night MrDidimus, can you please fucking take her!!’ I ended up feeding her back to sleep again anyway...Hmm

I hope your neighbour does see this message OP and that she survived the night.

You’re a good egg.

Jelly67 · 15/08/2018 13:28

Oh wow badger can you send your neighbour round to me Wink.

Marmite27 · 15/08/2018 13:30

Our neighbors have a baby a month younger than ours.

We’ve had 4am coffee and cake together in the garden this summer.

Duggee4ever · 15/08/2018 13:32

After the night we had last night, I wish you were our neighbour too!
