Shops you feel you " ought" to like but in reality never do.

First this is obviously lighthearted....

I went to local town today with dd2 (age 18) and we were wandering up from 1 area to the next passing a shop that recently had relocated (called the silver sheep) I remarked to dd2 that I always felt like I should like that shop but when I went in could never find anything. She said she was like that with Seasalt Loves the windows and walk in but always leaves feeling disappointed.

Made us talk of how this is that you look at a shop window. Clearly find it attractive and "you" but then when you are inside find it is very much not you..

Any of you have shops like that?

I cannot understand why I haven't bought anything from Zara in years.

Everything has a giant ruffle, and a hole Confused

Smokeahontas · 12/08/2018 15:08

TK Maxx. Everyone else raves about it but it makes my teeth itch. All that unsorted shite flung on to rails. You must have to be on ketamine to be bothered with it.

confusedandemployed · 12/08/2018 15:10

Boden, Cos, Joules, Fat Face, Seasalt. I'm mid 40s, their target market but all I see on offer is Frumpsville Arizona.

Sparkletastic · 12/08/2018 15:15

Deffo COS

tectonicplates · 12/08/2018 15:18

I really don't know why I keep popping in to Zara. Everything's rubbish and badly fitting, and they don't make petites anyway so all their clothes look ridiculous on me.

I think I've been overly influenced by the popular concept of popping into Zara to pick up a couple of workwear basics, even though they never happens for me. Why do I keep popping in anyway on the off chance? Things aren't going to change.

HappyEverIftar · 12/08/2018 15:22

Another one for Fat Face, White Stuff, Joules etc. in theory I should like it, but I can't bring myself to buy their clothes.

Mango, Zara etc. I'm just not built in that willowy European way the clothes seem cut for.

And I don't know how Body Shop are still trading, every time I walk past, there's never anyone in there Confused

hugoagogo · 12/08/2018 15:22

Sea salt for sure, it all looks nice, but they never have anything I actually want.Confused

tectonicplates · 12/08/2018 15:25

Ditto with Seasalt. I like the idea of it but never actually find anything I like. It seems like a great concept though.

WatercolourFlower · 12/08/2018 15:25

Another one for Zara here. Just doesn't suit, and everything I buy falls apart after one wear.

On the other hand, Jack Wills is a shop I probably shouldn't like. But after buying a few clothes in there this year, I'm hooked!

OuchLegoHurts · 12/08/2018 15:26

And another one for Zara! I don't think you can have boobs to shop in there.

PepsiColaWentToTown · 12/08/2018 15:27

Yes, this. Things only get more ruffly :(

AnElderlyLadyOfMediumHeight · 12/08/2018 15:27

Cos.

PepsiColaWentToTown · 12/08/2018 15:27

And the staff in Zara are uniformly foul.

KellyBailey · 12/08/2018 15:28

And their stuff is ridiculously over priced even in the outlet shop near me. I bet if they brought back stuff like the perfume bar and the little fruit shaped soaps you used to get their sales would go through the roof.

tectonicplates · 12/08/2018 15:31

Cos makes no sense in the UK. To wear any of their clothes you'd have to be really tall, no breasts and no curves at all.

theliverpoolone · 12/08/2018 15:32

Agree about TK Maxx. I've got v little money, so it should be sort of place I'd be frequenting, but I can't bear all those rails of one item in one size only, that you have to search through, and none of it ever actually looks like anything either I or dd would wear anyway!

PepsiColaWentToTown · 12/08/2018 15:33

I bought a dress from Cos once. I thought I would look v. chic and sophisticated.

I looked like Sister Patricia who taught Home Ec.

IHaveBrilloHair · 12/08/2018 15:34

Boden, really Mumsy.
Lush, stinks.

Brickswithstones · 12/08/2018 15:36

That will be '& Other Stories' for me.
I've been in the store a few times and I just can't get my head around the styles.

LeftRightCentre · 12/08/2018 15:36

Another one for Zara. Not tall and willowy and have big boobs so nothing in there fits me.

candlefloozy · 12/08/2018 15:41

I love joules! And boden for Dd. Never even heard of cos or seasalt..

dementedma · 12/08/2018 15:45

Hate TK Maxx. Have tried it a few times but always come out frustrated and empty handed

TSSDNCOP · 12/08/2018 15:47

John Lewis.

Other people seem to have a party thrown for them when they walk in.

I experience disinterest at best.

BarryTheKestrel · 12/08/2018 15:50

Zara and Next. Nothing ever fits properly but I always find something I like.

I'm one of those who is tall with no chest but plenty of waist/hip. I struggle with high street stores at all. It's all either for the willowy type or those blessed with norks and curves.

CanIBuffalo · 12/08/2018 15:52

Liberty.
I was so disappointed.
It's like an expensive version of Homesense.
