Shops you feel you " ought" to like but in reality never do.

First this is obviously lighthearted....

I went to local town today with dd2 (age 18) and we were wandering up from 1 area to the next passing a shop that recently had relocated (called the silver sheep) I remarked to dd2 that I always felt like I should like that shop but when I went in could never find anything. She said she was like that with Seasalt Loves the windows and walk in but always leaves feeling disappointed.

Made us talk of how this is that you look at a shop window. Clearly find it attractive and "you" but then when you are inside find it is very much not you..

Any of you have shops like that?

Fabulous Exactly! They were full of gorgeous gothy, steampunk things a few years ago but now it's all super boring, saggily unflattering and massively over priced. It's such a shame as they really ruled that particular niche back in the day! :(

I'm amazed that they're still going to be honest as I never see or hear of anyone buying anything from them any more and the shops always seem to be empty.

Dd bought a make up pallete from TKmaxx the eyeshadows were smashed 😕

DarlingNikita · 19/08/2018 12:52

You must always check things before you buy in TK Maxx!

If you're careful, it can be great. I admit I haven't bought make-up in there though, but I have got some nice cheap nail polishes from OPI, Illamasqua etc.

Magicpaintbrush · 19/08/2018 13:02

Next. All looks lovely but I can never find any clothes I like other than slippers. I always go in with high hopes, then trudge back out with hopes dashed.

What I would really like to know are which shops are affordable that do clothes which aren't crap. I can't afford to spend £40 on a top (madness!!!)

Soubriquet · 19/08/2018 13:06

TK Maxx here. I don't have the patience to sort through crap to find things in my size.

I want to see something I like, find the right size and buy it. Done.

popocatepetals · 19/08/2018 13:18

The clothes section of TK Maxx - far too much like a jumble sale, and I can never summon up the enthusiasm to actually go through the stuff. Their handbags, kitchen stuff and soaps on the other hand...

John Lewis - I am their target market, middle-aged with spare cash and don't mind paying a bit extra if something is really good quality. But I go in there, look around and think "Meh".

dodobookends · 19/08/2018 13:20

Next and Debenhams. I feel like I should like shopping there, but I just don't.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 19/08/2018 13:22

Super dry..... everything is super small compared to other brands..... and it’s just too packed together.... worse than sports direct.
I don’t really rate Waitrose food either if I’m honest. Not to mention I always get looked at like I’m a pauper entering a princes town 😖 granted I do pop in there after work with my uniform but purely only for our fave bread (Jackson’s champion bread) as no where else sells it. I love marks and spencer just can’t get on with Waitrose 🤐

DarlingNikita · 19/08/2018 13:23

I think my local TK Maxx must be an anomaly. It's usually nice and tidy and they display things by size, so you can just home in on one section.

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 19/08/2018 13:24

Lush- in reality I don’t want crumbly crap all over my bathroom

I was massively disappointed when I bought a sea salt rain coat. Got it off ebay, but still cost way more than my usual raincoat budget. It's ok, I tho u get, if I l I 've it, it's worth paying more.

I was gutted. Came down.to just above my hip (their models must be tiny), sleeves didn't reach my wrists and th ed hood stopped at my hairline.

tectonicplates · 20/09/2018 14:18

I'm just reviving this thread as I enjoyed it so much.

Also I just went to Zara again. Yet again I couldn't find anything. This was no surprise, yet I still keep going.

saganorenscarandcoat · 20/09/2018 14:25

I went to Zara yesterday and the clothes all looked like 5 year olds drawings and doodles that had come to life.

Deathraystare · 20/09/2018 15:26

Cos makes no sense in the UK. To wear any of their clothes you'd have to be really tall, no breasts and no curves at all.

Well, actually I am 5ft 4, a big tummied busty apple and have a lovely cobalt blue plain dress from cos that skims over said tummy and I shall wear it for my Godson's wedding. It has long sleeves and a kind of flippy skirt to it. Though I sometimes have a problem with my busty substances, in this case the dress fits. I also have about two other dresses and a blouse that fit's great!

Littlechocola · 20/09/2018 15:29

Next. I find the sizing big and so nothing fits.
The white company I really want to like but it’s so dull.

WhereIsMyDressingGown · 20/09/2018 15:34

Zara 100%. It must have happened ten times over the years that I've asked someone where they bought their lovely coat/top/trousers and they say Zara. So I go and have a look and it's a complete jumble sale. Everything is over-sized, cheap looking and expensive. How anyone has the patience to look through messy piles of grey tat is beyond me.

WhereIsMyDressingGown · 20/09/2018 15:35

I would also add that tall women like the same clothes as petite women. I get really frustrated at walking into a shop (any shop) to find that the piece of clothing I really like is only available in petite.

Yes!! Where have all the tall sections disappeared to in shops??? They're online but never in the shops!!!
