Flew to Rome on Wednesday and was delayed an hour. Flew home today and was delayed two hours. No staff anywhere in the airport. Should have left 2pm then it changed to 2.55 then 2.30 then 3. 15 then 3.
45. We were nearly an hour waiting to be boarded. I sat on the floor under an alarm which kept going off.
I had a rant at the cabin crew when I got on board and they blamed the airport. Now finally on the train home. Everyone warned me what they were like.
Lesson well and truly learnt!!!

Unreasonable to rant at the crew.

I decided not to fly Ryanair many years ago and have never regretted it.

dingit · 11/08/2018 20:44

We flew home from Corfu with Ryan air when my dad died on holiday there. We flew leaving him behindSad, he was repatriated later.
The crew couldn't have been more compassionate. They arranged for tor us to have seats together ( our boarding passes were separate seats) Bought us tea and coffee and spoke to us kindly as we disembarked.

ineedaholidaynow · 11/08/2018 20:50

Ranting at the crew might just mean complaining to them not getting at them.

flopsyrabbit1 · 11/08/2018 20:53

Are there anymore strikes planned?

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 11/08/2018 21:02

Dingnit so sorry, how hard that must have been for you x

Vanillamanilla1 · 11/08/2018 21:03

Fucking hope not flopsyrabbit I'm going to Barcelona on Wednesday

purplecorkheart · 11/08/2018 21:12

You ranted at the cabin staff. Why? They have no control about delays etc. Indeed some airlines staff (not sure about ryanair) basically do not get paid for when they are delayed. You just ranted at someone who was equally/more affected by the delay than you. I pity anyone who had the misfortune to deal with you today!!

Basically

Poisongirl81 · 11/08/2018 21:16

how was it the cabin crews fault?

HolyPieter · 11/08/2018 21:16

YABU for deciding to fly with them in the first place.

Rachel0Greep · 12/08/2018 00:42

I don't think it is fair to rant at the cabin crew. I'm guessing it was beyond their control anyway.

MadamBatty · 12/08/2018 06:13

Are you somebody who rants at the checkout person when they’re aren’t enough checkouts open? (Pointless)

I wouldn’t rant at cabin crew, they’re only doing a job. They could decide to put you off.

If you’re travelling in future you may need to accept that delays are inevitable. Maybe bring a book to read or do some deep breathing to calm you down? Stressing yourself out & ranting over a 2 hour delay is silly & sad.

eurochick · 12/08/2018 06:41

I'm guessing you don't fly much. A delay of an hour or two is common. There's no point ranting at the crew about it. If the plane isn't there they can't magically make it appear.

ChipsAndKetchup · 12/08/2018 06:55

Myself and DH and 2 very small DC had a 13 hour delay recently. That was pretty shit. A 2 hour delay sounds like a tiny hiccup in comparison tbh.

LoniceraJaponica · 12/08/2018 07:03

We were delayed last week while waiting for a passenger to turn up. Should I have ranted at the Jet2 flight staff? Hmm

Of course not. It wasn't their fault.

Raven88 · 12/08/2018 07:04

The delay could of been a passenger not going to the boarding gate on time before it left for Rome so they missed the slot 🤷🏼‍♀️

I agree that Ryanair are a bit rubbish but what do you expect when they are very cheap and the owner cuts costs at every opportunity. 2hrs isn't that bad but I agree they should have someone to talk to passengers at the gate. The one time I flew Ryanair it was great.

ShreddedFeet · 12/08/2018 07:05

The cabin crew had been delayed the same as you.
Choose who you rant at carefully in future.

Oblomov18 · 12/08/2018 07:08

You sound very precious. One hour delay is nothing. Hmm

whiteroseredrose · 12/08/2018 07:28

Probably tempting fate here but have flown several times with Ryanair and Easyjet and never had a problem with delays. The staff couldn't have been nicer yesterday flying in from Alicante; friendly and upbeat despite a cabin full of screeching toddlers.

Manchester Airport on the other hand was chaotic and clearly focused on getting as much money out of travellers as possible rather than making it pleasant and efficient.

PitchBlackNight · 12/08/2018 08:27

I don’t know why people continue to use Ryanair.

They are cheap. Cheap is important

FermatsTheorem · 12/08/2018 08:42

Frankly, with Ryanair, you're ahead of the game if they actually run the flight at all, so in the grand scheme of things a one hour delay isn't bad.

I know they're cheap as chips, but if I book a flight I want to know it will actually exist, on the day the airline said it will (barring, for instance, adverse weather that no-one can do anything about). For this reason, I don't fly Ryanair.

This was only a year ago:
fortune.com/2017/09/17/ryanair-flight-cancellations/

People had their holidays, honeymoons, family visits screwed up totally by this. A flight being a bit late is one thing - but Ryanair's attitude to their passengers is so crap I honestly don't know why people risk booking with them, cheap or not.

cariadlet · 12/08/2018 09:31

I don't hate Ryanair, but I do hate Michael O'Leary, the scummy owner who has nothing but contempt for his customers and his staff.

YABVVVU for shouting at the poor cabin staff. They have shit pay, shit working conditions and were no doubt doing the best they could. It wasn't their fault that you had a perfectly normal delay.

Littledidsheknow · 12/08/2018 09:45

There are a lot of delays at the moment because of strike action by French air traffic controllers which has restricted flights going through french airspace. May have been due to that.

Whatever it was, it wasn't a long delay, and certainly wasn't the cabin crews fault!

MadisonAvenue · 12/08/2018 10:37

Why rant at the crew? It's hardly their fault and you'd have been delayed even longer if they decided you were abusive and had you removed from the flight.
I can't believe you'd get that wound up over an hour.

The only flight I've ever been on which departed bang on time was a Ryanair one to Dublin. I fly regularly and always expect that there'll be a delay for one reason or another, even if we board on time.

bengalcat · 12/08/2018 10:42

Bet the crew were delighted they'd also been delayed and ranted at by mad moos .

BonnieF · 12/08/2018 10:44

Ranting at the crew is completely pathetic.

They have absolutely no influence whatsoever on delays which can be caused by airports, security, ATC, weather, technical issues or the airline’s operations department.

If you don’t like Ryanair, vote with your feet and take your business elsewhere.
