Would you support a new, centrist political party?

Just that really. I’m feeling ‘politically homeless’ but wonder whether the best thing for the country now would be a centrist party that tries to heal the rifts in society, or at least communicate across them. I think I’ve given up on the idea of being ‘represented’, but I desperately want to stop all the name calling and scapegoating that seems to be going on.

Would be interested to hear others’ thoughts ...?

The Lib Dems were in coalition. They couldn’t implement their manifesto in full.

Nick Clegg is a decent man and a talented politician. Shame on those Sheffield students who couldn’t see past their own pockets and elected Jared O’Mara in his place.

I was seriously considering joining the Lib-Dems a couple of years ago. Their stance on the trans self-id question has put paid to that.

I think that instead of creating any new parties, both Labour and the Tories should catastrophically split into 2 or 3 parties each - labour into corbynites and blairites, tories into eurosceptics and europhiles. Both parties are effectively broad coalitions already and they could continue to be so in practice when it comes to actual government but with voting the electorate would get a bit more real choice. It would work best with a single transferable voting system of course.

I don't think it's Corbynites vs Blairites. I think it's Corbynites vs anyone who doesn't like the shifty fecker.

OuEstPierreLapin · 12/08/2018 16:22

I do. The SNP.

HirplesWithHaggis · 12/08/2018 16:28

Would be interesting if the SNP stood in every UK constituency, and did actually form a majority government at WM. Grin

No - I'll stick with the Conservative Party. If anyone thinks the one policy party LibDims are going anywhere but into further obscurity will be disappointed I think.

notheretoargue · 12/08/2018 21:13

@silverysurfer are you a long time tory supporter? And do you still think they’re a safe pair of hands? I’m interested because a lot of my family members are Tory voters but have moved away in the last couple of years

There are things which I am not so happy about but I guess the same could be said of any party. However, when I consider the alternatives, none of them are viable IMO so I will stick with the Tories.

Yes if they recognised biological women and had intelligent thinkers on board who could see the long term implications of their policies.

This.

Instead of policies based on ideology, religion or prejudice, get the very best brains in and produce policies based on sound economic principles, compassion and proven case studies.

Not so much a political party, but an apolitical party.

Boring, but better in the long run.
