Peanut butter

Serious question.
If you eat peanut butter on toast... do you use regular butter too?

Yes! Cream cheese too though I could eat it without.

NoSquirrels · 26/07/2017 22:52

And what do you all mean, too sticky/helps it spread?
My smallest DC struggles to spread, but really... once you've learned to use a knife it's not so tricky, surely? Shock

I actually think PB is totally blech but I do a lot of surrogate spreading for others and have never found an issue.

SkyWalker95 · 26/07/2017 22:52

Only if I'm putting Marmite on first

Notalotta Oh. Also .... No. Grin

But just to reassure you, I was in the camp of buttering an Ice Bun. But that's clearly different to me.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 26/07/2017 22:56

Butter and Nutella would be grim. Leave off the Nutella.

StarHeartDiamond · 26/07/2017 22:57

No butter usually. It is fine with butter but it's a bit rich and sickly.

I find that's the heat from the toast melts the peanut butter so butter isn't required. If you leave your toast until it's cool before putting pb on, the pb doesn't melt and sticks on the top coldly. Not as pleasant.

Now I want toast and peanut butter... I'm on a diet too!! Shock Grin

Synecdoche · 26/07/2017 23:02

White bread + margarine + PB + sprinkle of salt = toast heaven

sunshineandrainbowsparkles · 26/07/2017 23:04

Did you just say salt?! Shock

My friend has peanut butter on toast with cheddar cheese on top.She is a bit odd though. I am so hungry now.

RedStripeIassie · 26/07/2017 23:14

No no no no no! Jam yes Wink

runningyogabooze · 26/07/2017 23:14

Of course

RJnomore1 · 26/07/2017 23:14

No. the butter stops the on spreading properly. Pb straight on very hot toast melts a little and spreads like a dream.

twoheaped · 26/07/2017 23:19

No but I don't butter any sandwich I have.
The only time I butter (lots of it) is for baked beans on toast.

Synecdoche · 26/07/2017 23:32

Oh yes sunshine Grin

My rationale is that people eat salted peanuts, right?

Try it, it's DIVINE.

TheDropBear · 26/07/2017 23:39

Why do you Brits have to f*ck up all your sandwiches with butter?

Butter acts as a barrier, how do you stop your bread getting soggy otherwise?
I usually don't butter with peanut butter but I top it with apple or banana slices so that stops it being dry.

StarHeartDiamond · 26/07/2017 23:58

Sunshine - I put ground rock salt and ground pepper on hot buttered crumpets. Smile

Now that is a match made in heaven! Keep your runny honey and jam crumpets, salt and pepper is scrumptious!!

StarHeartDiamond · 27/07/2017 00:00

Synec - I love buttered bread with salt and drizzled with salad cream Smile I don't know how I ended up doing it but it's my guilty pleasure!!

Will try the salt on pb... yum!

requestingsunshine · 27/07/2017 00:04

Yes I butter. Unless I'm putting peanut butter and Nutella together. Omg that's amazing. Like a Reece's peanut butter cup on toast!

LanaDReye · 27/07/2017 00:56

Noooo, I'm a Brit that doesn't use excessive butter. Jam and peanut butter is the best!

sunshineandrainbowsparkles · 27/07/2017 07:24

Requestingsunshine - they now do a reese's spread for toast! It's about £6 a jar though and I'm too tight to try it!

OP posts:
Sparrowlegs248 · 27/07/2017 08:37

Nosquirrels I can't believe you butter an iced bun! Thats just wrong.

Re the stickiness, I mean sticky to eat, not to spread.

DramaInPyjamas · 27/07/2017 08:40

Farmfoods do the Reeses peanut butter cups Spread at £1.99

sunshineandrainbowsparkles · 27/07/2017 09:45

Oooh thanks drama!

mommybunny · 27/07/2017 10:13

The problem with peanut butter that won't spread is eliminated if you don't keep it in the fridge. There is no need to keep it in the fridge.

And the argument for using butter to keep fillings from making bread go soggy on toast is nonsense - the whole point of butter on toast is to make it melt and soak the bread.

There is definitely a place for butter-soaked toast and a place for peanut butter-soaked toast, but no place for the two together, is all I'm sayin'.

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 27/07/2017 13:25

I've never put peanut butter in the fridge but in winter it's pretty hard even kept in a cupboard.
