Will I regret having an expletive in the title of my blog?

Nothing else captured my attitude so succinctly Hmm - but pootling around on related blogs and Twitter accounts I'm starting to wonder if I'm going to regret gratuitously alienating many people who might otherwise connect with what I have to say.

Could any more experienced bloggers advise: speak with my own cranky voice, or sanitise for wider appeal?

I mean "speech delay sucks" might conceivably cause offence. (You see the problem with my blogname - no-one can spell the fucker Grin)

ShiDoe · 19/02/2017 00:20

It's so good it's already a famous (interiors) blog - darn it!!

saltandpippa.com

I think the names are getting loads better though!

Damn! Good thinking though, OP. You just need to keep at it.

Here's a collection of [[https://trishhopkinson.com/2014/12/03/need-a-word-association-generator-these-are-free-and-better-than-your-average-thesaurus/
word association generators]].

It gave me:
SALT: pepper / vinegar / sea / sugar / water

SALTY: sweet / chips / taste / pretzel /salt / peanuts

SALTandPeppa might offend a pink pig I guess?

Glad you are moving away from the first title - I dislike swearing anyway but the main problem with your title was a sense of resentment and an absence of love, which I think is hugely at odds with your position. I don't think you would be proud of showing your children that title when they are older. If it's speech delay, how about something like "talk later". I do like the SALT based suggestions too.

SALT-for-my-mermaid.wordpress.com
Thematically linked and gets in the Ariel connection but a bit confusing and sickly-sweet

SALT-for-my-squid.wordpress.com
I do actually call my kids 'Squids' as DIY rhyming slang

SALT-under-the-table.wordpress.com
NotAtTheTableSALT.wordpress.com
(Sounds too much like I'm a SALT. Supposed to play on 'table salt' and imply that therapy doesn't have to be done at a desk/table/formal setting )

SALT-for-my-Chips.wordpress.com
Chips, like chips off the old block, synonym for kids? Too cutesy I'm thinking ... Maybe
SALTingMyChips

She-will-talk-when-she-is-ready.wordpress.com
Will-she-talk-when-she-is-ready.wordpress.com
(Everyone says the former when your kid is behind with talking. But I don't think it reflects the content )

SALTandtheCee
(Claim my daughter is called Celia now!!)

SALT-for-my-squid is lovely, in my opinion. Nice and child friendly. Avoids the cutesy-ness of mermaid, as you say - and an unusual image.

ShiDoe · 19/02/2017 01:29

Actually - I'm really feeling that name too.

Her favourite hat (out of an extensive novelty hat collection) is a Splatoon 'Squid Kid' hat.

Urban dictionary gives Squidkid definition as "Noun: Defined as a younger member of the human race so extremely competent and/or enthusiastic for the activity of swimming that their physical and cognitive behavior can be liken to a cephalopod sea mollusk"
Which totally fits her - swimming is a bit of a passion/talent of hers.

It's a good 'un - right?

Salt for my squid is great!

pillowcase6 · 19/02/2017 01:41

Love salt for my squid!

Another comment on the 'shit' title. If you want your posts to get shared on social media, you'd lose a large chunk of people who find your stuff hugely relevant but don't swear and feel awkward sharing a blog with shit in the title.

I feel this way about sharing excellent articles from ifuckinglovescience because most of my social circle are quite conservative in their language.

I do realise you've moved on now but just throwing that in as a factor!

ShiDoe · 19/02/2017 02:00

Wordpress would make me write is

saltformysquid.wordpress.com

(although nothing stopping me registering the hyphenated version elsewhere and redirecting. Can you make out the words without the hyphens - or is hyphenated better and/or worth protecting? )

It might be midnight talking - but I'm feeling exceedingly pleased with that name.

^^

I like the new name and I think without hyphens is readable.

HuguenotJo · 19/02/2017 14:37

Hurray! Better without the hyphens, I think. Love the urban dictionary definition too - you could maybe quote that somewhere on the blog.
