I've been thinking about the name Courtney alot recently and it's kind of stuck with me, I've done a lot of research on the name and ways to spell it because I like the spelling 'Courtney' but it's way to common for me to use..

The only other spellings I can tolerate are.

Kourteney
Kourtnee
Courteney
Courtnee

I like the top two better but I'm not sure if they look abit to trashy..

Lol okay. If you have a cousin with the same name, why give your baby the name Courtney.

FastWindow · 16/11/2016 23:02

If your cousin is Kortniee why do you want the same name? Its unusual sure, but becomes instantly 100% more usual in your family. If you are naming your dd for your cousin, go with her spelling to be sure.

Unless pp was right about reading week this week.

Hideous name whichever way it's spelt

Joinourclub · 16/11/2016 23:07

Your cousin kortniee must be delighted that there will be a little courtenee in the family. Will she become 'big kortniee'? Maybe your baby can just be 'nee' to avoid any confusion.

mylittlephoney · 16/11/2016 23:09

Anyone else hearing it with a strong cockney twang al la eastenders. Don't do it. Spell it properly.please.Smile

Why is my name spelt Rachal instead of Rachel

Because your parents are feckin idiots? That what people will think when you try and spell a name uniquely and it doesn't make any sense.

kavvLar · 16/11/2016 23:30

Ah they're becoming way too usual now. Run of the mill even. DD has 'Kortniee D' and 'Kortniee L' in her class and don't get me started on the 'Rachal' contingent, there's two Rachal B's a Rachal M and a Rachal G.

I'd go for something more unusual OP.

Blu · 17/11/2016 06:42

Kawtni?

Eminybob · 17/11/2016 08:43

Noeuf I say will-ee-um, DH says will-yum. Or sometimes it's a combo of the 2

fitzbilly · 17/11/2016 08:48

This is a joke thread clearly!Grin

GinIsIn · 17/11/2016 08:50

Kortniee and Rachal? Please tell me the surname is Smith, spelled Zmyfffe! Grin This has to be a wind up, but if it isn't, please don't do that to a child!

blueistheonlycolourwefeel · 17/11/2016 10:10

Quartnieeeee.....

Fyoosha · 17/11/2016 12:16

...am spending way too much time on this...

SouthWestmom · 17/11/2016 19:42

Eminy I have said WILLIAM too many times now and can no longer pronounce it

awkward91 · 17/11/2016 20:07

I don't think that there's anything wrong with traditional spellings for names. To be honest I think that people who invent new spellings of names do so just for the sake of being different and to me it's a little nonsensical if the name is still pronounced the same anyway.

When I see names spelt very differently to how the are most commonly spelt, rightly or wrongly I tend to have assumptions about the class and educational background of the parents.

YoScienceBitch · 17/11/2016 20:12

Me and my cousin have "yoonique" spellings and it's never been a problem or effected our lives.

LadyMonicaBaddingham · 17/11/2016 20:14

Courtney? Lovely.

Kourtnee/Kourteney/Kortniee? No, just no.

You're naming a baby, not a fictional stripper...

ALemonyPea · 17/11/2016 20:18

What's wrong with actually spelling a name how it is meant to be spelled. Your child will not thank you when they're older having to spell their name to everyone and correcting everyone. Plus it saves the angst of christmas cards, party invites etc

I worked with a woman who wanted to spell her daughters name Popie, glad she changed it as someone pointed out it would be pronounced Popeye.

QuoteMeYouFuckers · 17/11/2016 20:37

Is Popie meant to be Poppy or Popey? I can't work it out!
My niece is called Courtney, with the normal spelling. Courteney at a push. It's an alright name. I don't like the pointless, unusual spellings you've suggested though OP. Everytime I see normal names spelled in a quirky, unique way I struggle to avoid the assumption that their parents must not be very good at spelling.
