Makes me smile

Mistymoo · 18/01/2007 17:01

You also have to go to the chippy and ask for a "fish supper" and not "fish and chips".

whoopsfallenoveragain · 18/01/2007 17:03

Misty that confused me when I first moved there as did someone saying they were going to have their pieces and someone else saying they were goin for their messages!!

sweetkitty · 18/01/2007 17:05

Macdog - another Ayrshire lassie, pmsl at the Kandy Bar (DP and I met in the Metro too ) I'm in Motherwell now having returned last year after being away for 8 years and am loving being back (apart from the weather).

whoopsfallenoveragain · 18/01/2007 17:07

Sweetkitty - I'm going to be in Motherwell I used to live there and liked it

shonaspurtle · 18/01/2007 17:15

Expat - haven't heard "shan" for years! Does you dh say:

barry - for v.good
chum - for going somewhere with someone (I'll chum you down the road)
chore - for steal (I caught him choring from the sweetshop)

All things from my Embra youth you don't seem to hear out west...

shonaspurtle · 18/01/2007 17:17

Mmmmm - salt n sauce....much better than salt n vinegar. I once bought an Irn Bru bottle full of it out of an Edinburgh chippie to bring baxck to Glasgow. It's not the same if you don't get it straight on the hot chips though and it might be a bit much carrying it around with me....

weepootleflump · 18/01/2007 17:20

sweetkitty, I used to go to the metro! (only cause Hanger 13 closed down)

hotandbothered · 18/01/2007 17:35

My dh is gradually needing less translation and has been known to comment that it's a bit driech and that I'm looking peely-wally.

Macdog · 18/01/2007 17:37

Fish supper and a bottle o' ginger!

Oh, and let's not forget "jobbie" !!!

sweetkitty · 18/01/2007 17:37

weepootleflump - now your showing your age I went back a year ago and it's not a patch on the good old days

whoops - you will have to look me up then are you moving to Motherwell soon? It's OK same as any Scottish town really good and bad points.

ItsMeMellowma · 18/01/2007 17:37

sweetkitty · 18/01/2007 17:38
