It's World Book Day on March 7. What inspired (or desperate) costume feats have you pulled off in the past? Post your pictures (old or new) here and on Fri 15 March we'll put all the entries into a pot and pluck one out. The winner will receive £100 worth of books from World Book Day authors.

If you are stuck for ideas visit our World Book Day costume page for some great Mumsnetter suggestions.

Dd2 as The Gruffalo's Child, about 2 minutes after this photo was taken I realised my mistake of leaving the facepaints within reach, I returned to find she'd painted her entire face green.

Dobby the House Elf - Harry Potter.
1 x badge covered tea-cosy (I have a cold teapot now!) with attached ears made from covered sponge. 1 x tea-stained pillow case, odd socks and shoes, dad's old tie and a book with an odd sock in it.

AWimbaWay · 08/03/2013 09:33

I Love your Dobby aaaaagh.

DS and his best mate as Things 1 and 2 - a horribly appropriate costume as they really do the opposite to what you tell them.

aaaaagh · 08/03/2013 09:39

Kili the dwarf from the Hobbit - my bearded DTD1 in my old leather coat with the lower part of the sleeves cut off and turned into leather cuffs - the bottom of the coat chopped off to make the sword belt and then fur trim added and several tunics!

aaaaagh · 08/03/2013 09:42

thanks AWimbaWay - your Gruffalo's child is rather gorgeous - I was seriously chuckling about the green face paint incident!! I wish there was a like button!!!

DS as Mr Badger

firawla · 08/03/2013 13:07

this is my oldest as a pirate. not from yesterday, for some reason his school never bothered with world book day! bit of a shame would have been fun for them to dress up, not that i am any good at making the costumes!

DD took the literal response to her World Book Day costume and went as an actual book!

pilky2006 · 11/03/2013 11:22

This is ds dressed as Noddy. He normally doesn't like dressing up but we came up with this outfit so it would be easy for him to wear all day at school. Just used his own shorts and t-shirt, made a simple hat out of some spare material and attached a plastic christmas bauble at the end and then used a duster for his scarf. I tied a knot in the scarf and then sewed a press stud where the knot was then he could take it off easily during the day. He ended up really enjoying dressing up.

sjonlegs · 11/03/2013 17:22

This is my son Archie (aged 9 with special needs) ... we were struggling as they only told us the day before that they were dressing up ... but a last minute root around and 10 minutes of making up and my little soldier became Dracula!!

sjonlegs · 11/03/2013 17:26

My daughter Scarlett and son Jem just love Alien's Love Underpants!! :)

Elenna from Beast Quest, complete with ridiculous wolf.

DanielMummy · 12/03/2013 21:52

Simple costume for Harry and the Dinosaurs. Just add a bucket of dinosaurs to normal clothes.

dragonfly63 · 13/03/2013 06:35

Absolutely desperate to find a fancy dress costume for a 'spy' themed party but really pushed for time my friend went as Goldfinger - by dipping his index finger in paint - genius!

BrendaB85 · 13/03/2013 11:41
