Hope this meets with your approval. It was getting a bit full on the other thread so we've extended and now need to decorate the new space.

For the walls.

Oh, by the way, anyone else developing a hitherto unsuspected interest in detective stories about trains? Grin

No? Just me?

Seraphine1 · 20/02/2012 13:46

You guys crack me up :)

Letuspray - maybe you are me? If you're a Canadian living in Scotland with 2 kids, we need to talk!

Fluffymonster · 20/02/2012 14:07
  1. I would have probably done the same thing as Eos but also forever kicked myself afterwards.

  2. Seraphine1 - you also sound eerily similiar to me. Grin
Two small kids (but I'm older than you) - and yep, not had such a schoolgirl crush since well, since schoolgirl days...quality over quantity!

He's worth it though. There's so much about him to like. And the trouble is, the more you read/see about him, the more interesting he gets, and the more there is to admire, so you can't even 'wear out' the crush that way.

Quite inconvenient really!

  1. Cringe at the term Cumberbitches, but it's quite funny. He himself said on the Alan Carr show "It's quite concerning on various levels...probably set feminism back some way!" Nuff said lol.

The photo of him on his bike is so cool.

Very envious of Eos Chater. He asked for lessons while he was dressed in a sheet, fgs! In a sheet! How did she stop her hands from shaking?? And he invited her to his trailer for lessons, and asked for lessons after filming until the cleaner arrived, and offered her a lift home on his bike. Omg.

Anyway - saw on Cumberbatchweb earlier that BC has booked in to Spencer Hart (who did the Sherlock suits), for a suit fitting for the Oscars! So we'll hopefully get an 'Oscars' BC fix soon.

Seraphine1 · 20/02/2012 14:22

Ooh... Oscar night! I miss being able to see that live. I can't bring myself to stay up til 5am to watch it live now (it was easier when I was on the same time zone!) but my mom and I used to watch it every year.

Okay... I'm going to date myself here, but I'm curious.

A bunch of you have said how like me you are - similar age, situation, etc.

Who were your celebrity crushes back in the day? I haven't had one like this since... oh, about 1987? I had a serious case of "like" towards Kevin Costner, first in the movie The Untouchables. I was still young and couldn't get into the theatre to see it, so I took my dad with my as a Fathers Day present as I knew he liked gangster movies. Wow, that was a long time ago! There was something about him - young, slim, good body, great clothes (I loved the 30's Armani suits they used in that movie). Now I still like those things, but I'm not 14 anymore. And I'm not used to my crushes being younger than me.

so humour me... I'm curious!

Fluffymonster · 20/02/2012 14:28

Quote LadyClarice:

Of course, I'm saying all this, being very sensible and all, but if I were really faced with this situation I'd quite possibly just leap onto the bike without thinking twice and throw my arms and legs round his waist and bite the back of his neck. Grin

LOL!

First big crush was probably Duran Duran (specifically John Taylor). Posters on wall, joined fan club, went to see them in concert. Even wore New Romantic white frilly shirts, with the sparkly burgundy scarves, and red knickerbockers, such was the depth of worship. I liked the floppy fringe the cheeky sense of humour and the tallness.

Oh I had a brief spate of liking Kevin Costner too - but more from Dances With Wolves. Lovely forearms when he was dancing by the fire.

Brad Pitt in River Runs Through It, and that film he was in with Anthony Hopkins, Julia Ormond and Aiden Quinn. And Interview With A Vampire. He's very graceful.

Fluffymonster · 20/02/2012 14:44

David Boreanaz in Buffy/Angel. David Tennant as Dr. Who...

You've set me thinking now!

I've already acknowledged on this thread that I'm 30.

My main teenage crushes, in no particular order, were James Marsters (Spike from Buffy) Mark Owen and Leonardo do Caprio.

These days my tastes run to:

BC (obviously)
David Tennant
James Marsters (still!)
Dave Grohl
Matt Smith

So the general rule of thumb for me seems to be: tall, pale and skinny!

For obvious reasons these are two of my favourite pictures:

Oh to be in the middle Grin

How to airbrush Stephen Moffat out?!

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 20/02/2012 15:49

I had a teenage crush on River Phoenix (RIP River) Sad and one on Mags from A-ha. At uni I had a thing for Leo DiCaprio in his Romeo + Juliet phase ? so so pretty, and so lovely in that skinny Prada suit ? and Liam Gallagher. Then not much til Paul Bettany, who I fell in love with in A Knight's Tale and for whom I still have the raging hots <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=paul+bettany&hl=en&client=firefox-a&hs=btB&sa=X&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&biw=966&bih=1150&tbm=isch&prmd=imvnso&tbnid=LZZHumiB8hnxtM:&imgrefurl=pulsd.com/new-york/movies/apple-store/an-evening-with-paul-bettany-in-soho&docid=pEjcG_6wvnw5nM&imgurl=assets3.pulsdcdn.com/system/images/10216/original/paul-bettany.gif%253F1305002264&w=319&h=425&ei=9GpCT_vHLNO48gOS6-SQCA&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=741&vpy=332&dur=607&hovh=258&hovw=193&tx=119&ty=124&sig=100905212096207828663&page=1&tbnh=148&tbnw=121&start=0&ndsp=33&ved=0CHMQrQMwCg" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">probably posted this before but still, ding dong . It was all about Bettany until Benedict came on the scene. Now Paul is probably number two in my priorities, which I find quite shocking to think/type. of course ideally I'd have them both, together

Letuspray - you posted the cover of the Times article by Caitlin Moran... I just looked up the text, and it's a great piece:

cumberbatchweb.tumblr.com/post/14690012019/caitlin-moran-my-love-affair-with-sherlock

(you've probably seen this already, but I'm late to the party)

I liked this article too:
www.huffingtonpost.com/meghan-okeefe/benedict-cumberbatch_b_1231634.html

SurferRosa · 20/02/2012 16:36

Oh wow! I thought it was only me and my best friend from primary school who fancied Gil Gerrard. She had a poster of him from Look-In. I was vair jealous.

Nowadays I like Robert Downey Jnr (looks like he would be filth), Hugh Jackman (pref. as Wolverine, also filth) but nowhere near BC. He just has something about him - although I think there might be a common theme. Wink

exexpat · 20/02/2012 16:41

Just reposting those two articles Seraphine mentions as links: Caitlin Moran piece and Huffington Post - the Benedict Cumberbatch situation. I love the term cumbernesting...

Just out of curiosity, I did a search of MN to find the first mentions of BC, and I think we have to give Marina a prize for prescience on this thread from 2005: "Benedict Cumberbatch is a real star in the making IMO."

Thanks exexpat - I didn't realise they weren't coming up as links automatically (the other forums I'm on just do it on their own).

It's fun to have someone to actually share all this stuff with. I live in fear that my husband is going to come across my "cumbernest" stash of stuff on my laptop and wonder what the heck? He knows I like the Sherlock series, but isn't aware of what else I like....

exexpat · 20/02/2012 17:03

(Seraphine - I think you just have to look under the message box and tick the box saying 'convert links automatically'. But I prefer doing the square brackets thing so you don't end up with huge long blocks of website addresses in the middle of a post, and you can just label it whatever you want - eg sigh.)

DesperateHousewife21 · 20/02/2012 17:48

Right about now I could seriously lay in a king size bed, in a five star hotel sipping champagne with him.

I'm waiting Mr Cumberbatch, whenever you're ready come and get me on your bike!

LetUsPrey · 20/02/2012 18:22

Crushes of yesteryear (the main ones - I wasn't that picky): Gil Gerard - quite popular isn't he; Roger Taylor off of Duran Duran; Morten Harket; Timothy Dalton; the Hoff in Knight Rider; Rick Springfield; Dirk Benedict; loads more.

More recently (in my 20s/30s): Bono; Johnny Depp; Larry Mullen jr; lots more.

Then recently they all fell by the wayside as I developed a huge crush on Steve Backshall. Met him a couple of times - even more wonderful in real life. For a few years, he's been my list of one. And then along came Benedict and the unthinkable has happened - Steve's been pushed into second place!

Oh dear, I sound a bit of a tart Blush.

Fluffymonster · 20/02/2012 18:36

You guys have good taste - I fancy most of the people on everyone else's lists too, to varying degrees! But BC is ahead, by some distance. This Marie Claire picture, with Lydia Hearst always makes me a bit hot and bothered..

IAmSherlocked · 20/02/2012 18:43

Oh dear lord, Fluffymonster - that pic Shock

It might be the most beautiful thing I've ever seen Shock Shock
