Going to kick off this week's new blog posts with my weekly links post.

OP posts:
purplemom · 30/09/2011 07:46

A return to humiliating myself today with a post about trying to get anything done with children at home www.purplemum.com/2011/09/it-all-ended-in-sick/

FlamingoBingo · 30/09/2011 09:34

Today on Free Your Parenting, we have a guest post from Emily of the Real Parenting website about gender-stereotyping in toy advertising.

PetiteRaleuse · 30/09/2011 10:03

Good morning. I've been having a moan about the indian summer here

purple lovely post, have commented.

FB there was an article on the same issue a few months ago in the Guardian - I'll try and find it for you it was pretty interesting.

PetiteRaleuse · 30/09/2011 10:06

FB www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/dec/03/christmas-toymakers-rethinking-pink?INTCMP=SRCH

and

www.guardian.co.uk/lifeandstyle/2010/sep/18/boys-girls-gender-gap?INTCMP=SRCH

But these aren't the ones I was thinking of I will search a bit more (it's really hard finding stuff on the guardian site sometimes)

FlamingoBingo · 30/09/2011 10:39

Thanks, Petite. It often comes up - so frustrating. Have you read Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine?

OP posts:
PetiteRaleuse · 30/09/2011 10:52

No, I haven't read any books on anything like that (including parenting). I never thought I'd need to!! I'll be keeping an eye out though on how my DD is influenced.

I was very much of a tom boy, so if she takes after me there won't be much issue.

angie80uk · 30/09/2011 11:12

Purplemom lol I can so totally understand your situation. A tod and a baby is hard work! I wish I had waited a bit longer until Abby is a bit more independent. They do melt us after all the mischief with their innocent smiles, so yes you are right, it is all worth it at the end!

FB Oooo that really got me thinking. I have been making it my rule that no one give Abby princess stuff, because I hated the fact that evils are ugly and good are pretty, which is a misconception to teach children. It seems like we do influence our children one way or another. I'll keep that in mind next time I shop for toys

Petite haha actually, I'm just like you! I hate Summer! Hot, sweaty, buggy, don't feel like doing anything. While my favourite is actually winter (my spiders come into my house during autumn...), cosy inside, crisp and fresh outside, and there is X'mas.. lol so no you're not alone and no you're not a miserable cow!!

Parenting Philosophy

Do you have one?

Bit snowed under this week, but hoping to get back to normal soon.

FlamingoBingo · 30/09/2011 12:03

Petite - you don't need to read it Grin It's not a parenting book at all, it's just really interesting and talks about the science behind gender differences, and how most of the good sciences points towards most of our gender differences being culturally conditioned not born into us.

OP posts:
MmeGuillotine · 30/09/2011 12:07

The latest in my series of posts about Jack the Ripper's victims on the anniversary of their deaths, which is a bit gloomy for a lovely day like today but er people seem to be interested...

MmeLindor. · 30/09/2011 12:54

ooh, that was weird, Mme. I clicked on your link and it took aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages to open (thought the pc was going to crash) then it opened at last and it was all white.

No background pink.

Everything else on your blog was normal. But white.

When I clicked again, it was back to pink.

PetiteRaleuse · 30/09/2011 13:23

fb I meant I never even thought I'd be interested or need to read parenting books or need to have an interest in gender issues in kids, as I never thought I'd have one... that's all

FlamingoBingo · 30/09/2011 14:10

Oh I see! Grin

For those of you following the tuna saga glittersequinsandsparkles.blogspot.com/2011/09/tuna-family-saga-free-miguel.html

I will hopefully be posting later about gender issues. I have a nail varnish wearing scared of the woods DS and a complete tomboy DD so it's something that interests me. Although admittedly I do keep buying DD dolls and dresses mainly due to people thinking she's a boy!!

Katryn · 30/09/2011 15:11

Leave a comment on my new post www.mindbodybeautyhealth.wordpress.com for a chance to win a really fab goodie bag, suitable for a 3-7 year old.

PetiteRaleuse · 30/09/2011 15:59

They've changed the list of eatured bloggers on the blogging home page - you know the one that was just the famous ones...

And some of you are on there... (MmeL I'm looking at you!)

FlamingoBingo · 30/09/2011 19:12

Well done, MmeLindor!

OP posts:
angie80uk · 30/09/2011 19:56

Well done MmeLindor!

DillyTante · 30/09/2011 20:01

I've been a bit crap this week due to feeling crappy with a cold and a little bit fed up with the drudgery and relentlessness of life with two young kids. I haven't been blogging about it because I want my blog to be predominantly a craft/inspirational/funny blog, and not really a journal or one of the many parenting blogs which can get a bit samey. I bore myself with my misery sometimes, I wouldnt want to bore my readers. I even have a blog post that I started in draft that I stopped writing when I was boring myself just writing it. It was about Tupperware...

Have been catching up with other people though. Well done MmeLindor and Scatcat for Mn accolades.

Erm, this may sound really cumudgeonly, but I wonder if in the op of our next thread we should make it clear that this is a chatting type thread rather than post and run. When people post their blogs without interacting with the rest of us. Does that make me sound mean spirited?

ShirleyKnot · 30/09/2011 20:20

Sorry to hear you're feeling a bit down Dilly. I understand what you mean about the drudgery of day to day life and I fell off threads a while ago when I just couldn't get the energy up.

I think the weekly thread - which I do check and read - has changed from the old long running thread - DYKWIM? I did have a "chat" thread running for a while, but it died a death! Smile

BloggerAJD · 30/09/2011 20:29

My new post, about me having a brew on taxpayers money. AND IT WAS DELICIOUS.

aliciajduffy.blogspot.com/2011/09/ive-been-thinking-today-why-am-i-so.html

BloggerAJD · 30/09/2011 20:30

I'll try that link again...

breadfortheboys · 30/09/2011 20:31

Ooh, thanks for alerting us Petite, me too!

Sorry you are feeling down Dilly. The drudgery gets me down too but I find that writing the blog helps to release me from that sometimes. I love Tupperware Wink.

FlamingoBingo · 30/09/2011 20:35

Dilly - sorry, but I just burst out laughing at your post just now Grin How can a blog post about tupperware be boring?!

Anyway, sorry you're feeling down, and agree entirely that this thread should be about social networking - the bloggers network itself is where posts get published with no other interaction.

OP posts:
BloggerAJD · 30/09/2011 20:39

Eek, sorry for not chatting! I always feel a bit odd jumping into converstaions, so was just posting and running, but will make an effort now :)

So...Hi...

I've been going through all your blogs btw, a bit intimidating, but some lovely blogs out there. Am I meant to comment on the blog itself all the time, or only if I have an actual comment? If that makes any sense whatsoever...
