Story...SILs best friend (who I have known for many years and who I like very much) is getting married this summer. I was pleasantly surprised that we got an invite (dh and I that is, not the dc)

Apparently it is now quite common at wedding receptions for there to be a sort of choreographed/staged dance routine (I had NO idea this happened, having been married a long while and never been to a wedding where this happened!)

Soooo, SIL has asked me to take part (they are short of girls and people keep dropping out).

I am mortified I think it sounds dreadful and vomit inducing.

However, SIL seems sure the BTB will love it and she is pretty desperate - or she wouldnt have asked me!!!!!!!!! Grin

So, do I grit my teeth, make a complete arse of myself and give the BTB a good laugh or say no.........

WWYD?????

There was also the couple who got the whole church to recreate the video to 'Tragedy' by Steps. It's seriously cringeworthy and the couple later divorced.

Becaroooo · 01/04/2011 08:45

akiss seriously???????????

If people keep dropping out then you won't be the first person to have said "no".

MorticiaAddams · 01/04/2011 10:39

Not in a million years. I wouldn't do it for somebody close that I loved no matter how much they wanted it let alone somebody I hardly know.

AKissIsNotAContract · 01/04/2011 12:42

Here it is, enjoy. I even leant a new phrase -Marryoke.

It also shows that the idea is not very original - this is over 4 years old.

edwardcullensotherwoman · 01/04/2011 12:53

Oh dear OP. Do you know what songs are involved in the "mash up"?

I am immediately reminded of the MNer whose mum got married and had guests doing "Thriller". I notice Mamatomany mentioned it, wasn't you was it??

mamatomany · 01/04/2011 12:55

Dh and I just about managed to shuffle around to Dido's Thank you for a minute after the DJ put bloody Eminem's version on for a laugh Hmm

expatinscotland · 01/04/2011 12:56

God, that sound stupid as fuck and naff as all hell.

Just say no. Firmly.

Meglet · 01/04/2011 12:59

Don't do it. The sooner people put their foot down about this sort of thing the better.

Although if you do do it, then please post the video on you tube for our amusement Grin.

AKissIsNotAContract · 01/04/2011 13:03

This one is even worse:

Any chance you can get me an invite becaroooo? I'd love to see a bit of live marryoke!

DastardlyandSmuttily · 01/04/2011 13:07

Oh my giddy aunts. I've just watched the Tragedy video, tragic indeed.

At least hte Baby Got You Back (or whatever it's called) couple looked both equally into it, and it was a surprise to pretty much everyone. At this one it sounds like half the guests are going to be hiding in the loos out of embarassement before it even starts.

A big firm no. UNless you love the limelight and secretly fancy upstaging the bride

mamatomany · 01/04/2011 13:10

I want a marryokey Blush

Would it work for a Christening ?

I think it's in MN Classics, lady

CuntessentialShadows · 01/04/2011 13:27

I think you should agree if you get to chose the dance choreography, and go for something cool as Glow by Madcon.

CuntessentialShadows · 01/04/2011 13:29

See

ShowOfHands · 01/04/2011 13:33

Oh good lord. Is it a wedding or an end of pier show?

shefliesthrutheair · 01/04/2011 13:36

I'm sure the BTB wouldn't want to see it if the people doing it are hating it...

Pinkjenny · 01/04/2011 13:40

I would LOVE it. Shall I go in your place?

ShowOfHands · 01/04/2011 15:03

PeeeeeeJay. If you get practising now, you can have a routine sorted for London. We'll clear a space for you.

MadreInglese · 01/04/2011 15:09

good god I'd rather boil my own head!

Becaroooo · 01/04/2011 16:25

marryoke??????????

I really cant decide what to do about this...part of me thinks, hey everyone will be tipsy and having a good time and no one will care and it will be helping my SIL out

BUT

the other part of me cant get past the fact that its a dance routine at a wedding formed from people who cant actually dance!!!

you dont really think someone would put it on youtube do you? Really???

sob...

I dont really know anything about it because as soon as I heard it was happening I sort of stopped listening so I dont know what the songs are.....although I do seem to recall a mention of.........

riverdance

PJ Thats the thing! I think most of the others who are doing it (well, the ones who havent backed out!) are really into it and will love doing it.....some of them are quite...erm...how can I put it?....theatrical but the thought of it brings me out in hives....

Feel bad for SIL though..she has put a lot of work into it and is being let down by people. Sigh. I HATE letting people down.

What if the BTB hates it and thinks we have ruined her wedding? Oh god, its an episode of Jeremy Kyle waiting to happen if you ask me, but then I dont know the BTB as well as my SIL. Dont know her finacee at all....what will the that poor sod think??????

oh dear.................
