Time for a new specialism, methinks!

You are right Spiro, I think that he could be in South Africa filming Strike Back (possibly)...but no inside information, just speculation.

BTW I'm watching Who do you think you are? with Spike Lee..I love this programme, completely addicted. It's the American version, but still... They are showing The 25th Hour movie he directed afterwards, which is an excellent movie with Ed Norton. One of the first post-911 movies.

My daughter is 6 - 7 in April, so I guess she is in the year above yours (currently Year 2).

DumSpiroSpero · 22/02/2011 22:49

Yep, mine missed out on Yr 2 by a fortnight - but probably no bad thing. I think she likes being the oldest in her year (by 14 hours - there's a little girl in her class how shares her birthday but was born at the opposite end of the day!)

What date in April - my Dad's 16th?

OP posts:
PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/02/2011 22:57

7th. Her due date I remember was, the 4th - 4/4/4 - that was a bit spooky so I'm glad she was a bit late!!!

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/02/2011 22:58

My son is at the other end of the year, he was born in August so is one of the youngest. Quite tough for him I think.

DumSpiroSpero · 22/02/2011 23:00

I think being the youngest is tough on a lot of kids - it's a shame they can't stagger the entry to school more really.

I have already decided I am going to get my Dad the Impressionists DVD for his birthday. Then I'm going to cook him a lovely meal and make him come round to my house to watch it Grin!

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/02/2011 23:03

Good for you Spiro!!! I'm sure he will enjoy it!!! It's very cultured!! I take it that you have watched it yourself already?

SupermassiveLBD · 22/02/2011 23:05

What a lovely thoughtful daughter you are, Spiro. I bet he will have a laugh too, once he realises why he is watching this in particular.

DumSpiroSpero · 22/02/2011 23:09

No - I haven't seen it. My Dad and are both into art (we're off on a life drawing course next weekend!) but he'll probably get more out of it as a whole as he really likes Impressionism. I like it, but on the whole am more into modern stuff, especially popart.

He'll know why I'm watching it - he probably knows me better than my mum - we are very similar Smile.

OP posts:
PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/02/2011 23:17

The Impressionists is not really a proper drama - it's too much a series of loosely connected scenes, but it's well worth a watch. I learned a lot from it!!!

SupermassiveLBD · 22/02/2011 23:17

Dads and daughters, eh? I miss mine a lot Sad

What happened in the end about the faulty DVDs you got from Amazon? do they realise why you returned them, and will they do anything about it, or don't they care?

DumSpiroSpero · 22/02/2011 23:21

I'm sorry Massive Sad- I am very lucky to have a dad like mine. He was born just before WW2 and grew up in kids homes after his dad died when he was 2 yrs old, so that fact he's done such a good job of being a dad himself with no role model makes me sick-inducingly proud of him!

I had a refund for the second DVD from Amazon. I'd really love to try again but it does seem to be a feature of all of them not just the odd random copy.

Funnily enough, Ultimate Force was a bit sticky here and there too (nowhere near as bad). Can only assume that the ITV's DVD production department are not as good as the Beeb's.

How about a little

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/02/2011 23:29

I got a replacement for BtS from Amazon - in double quick time, I have to say, but I haven't yet had a chance to test it out...

The 25th Hour movie is just starting, and I had forgotten how good the music is (by Terence Blanchard). I even bought the soundtrack.

DumSpiroSpero · 22/02/2011 23:33

My replacement came really quickly too - shame it had the same bloody fault. Will be interested to hear how yours turns out. If it's ok I might look at ordering it again.

Have just seen the reviews of the Impressionists on Amazon - I may have to get it for myself as well.

Glad to be of service, ladies.

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/02/2011 23:47

Claude!!!! Welcome!!!!!

SupermassiveLBD · 22/02/2011 23:47

I see from the comments there we don't hold the monopoly on naughty remarks, Spiro!

DumSpiroSpero · 22/02/2011 23:50

We certainly don't - I was ROFL at some I was looking at earlier.

It's getting late though, time to do we think? Wink

OP posts:
PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 22/02/2011 23:53

Aparently the URL contained a malformed video ID...???

DumSpiroSpero · 22/02/2011 23:56

OK try

OP posts:
PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 23/02/2011 00:06

Ah much better!

PhoenixRisingFromTheAshes · 23/02/2011 00:09

Everytime I watch a North and South video, I am reminded of how good it is - definitely the classiest thing the Man has done (so far!)

SupermassiveLBD · 23/02/2011 00:11

Oh, grr, it's one of those ones they won't let me see. Just in case you wonder why I don't comment.

DumSpiroSpero · 23/02/2011 00:11

Definitely classy, but....John Porter....

OP posts:
SupermassiveLBD · 23/02/2011 00:13

it is definitely a classic Classic, Phoenix. so many beautiful touches, the wonderful costumes and settings and the good acting all round.
