What do we take with us?

nameymcnamechange · 03/09/2010 21:03

Bottle of reasonable but not flash wine (£8.00 minimum Wink).

scurryfunge · 03/09/2010 21:03

Car keys Grin

Trubbers · 03/09/2010 21:03

Bottle of wine and your best amusing anecdotes. And a fixed, interested smile.

WoodyAllen · 03/09/2010 21:03

Bag of crack and a rubber mask.

smugmumofboys · 03/09/2010 21:05

Am Shock that there's an Etiquette topic.

Decent wine and/or posh flowers from trendy florist? I would appreciate either.

I can but hope. We always get someone turning up with the wine on offer at Morrisons which is usually the one we're about to offer them.

LynetteScavo · 03/09/2010 21:10

Posh flowers? Really? Couldn't I get away with a small bunch?

It's a casual thing with the kids running round. (Post -kids tea, but not on to dinner (we're not that posh)

Snacks.

Portofino · 03/09/2010 21:13

If people invite you for drinks, I would assume they have sufficient "drinks" to go round, and would take flowers/chocolate.

BitOfFun · 03/09/2010 21:13

I'd stick to the crack if it's informal. You don't want to look too try-hard.

goodmanners · 03/09/2010 21:15

Car keys and a Pampas grass.

Do they have pampas grass out the front?

Yes?

Condoms.

Portofino · 03/09/2010 21:19

This has just made me think! For our wedding anniversary we threw a bbq and ivited lots of people. We received a surprising number of gifts, which was lovely.

Flowers, wine, chocolate, photo frames, a gift box thing for a meal out, stuff for dd. We were quite overwhelned with it all. Then there was DH's colleague who gave us....a PROMO Durex lube and vibrating cock ring! Shock Blush. I mean WHAT were they thinking!

LynetteScavo · 03/09/2010 21:20

As a child in the 70's I always loved pampas grass, and thought I would have some in my front garden as an adult. Funnily enough I don't. The neighbours haven't been there that long...maybe the pampas grass hasn't had time to grow. Does it start of short?

OP posts:
Portofino · 03/09/2010 21:21

I have to add that there is NO pampas grass in our garden!

LynetteScavo · 03/09/2010 21:21

For heaven's sake people, the kids are coming with us...people don't wing with kids in tow...or is this how it all starts? Shock

LynetteScavo · 03/09/2010 21:42

So that's most votes for wine...really?

Not flowers?

OP posts:
scurryfunge · 03/09/2010 21:43

Wine
Flowers
Chocolate

cornsilk909 · 03/09/2010 21:46

wine
cakes for the kids

taffetacat · 03/09/2010 21:54

Something homemade is nice if you're into that sort of thing

ie chutney, jam, home grown veg or flowers

I think flowers are better as a gift than wine as with wine there is always the undercurrent of shall we share it or keep it?
Flowers are just for them.

You could do a small gift for the children and some for yours too eg GoGos

taffetacat · 03/09/2010 21:55

......oh and rofl @ pampas grass

we had it in the 70's. Its a bugger to fish a guinea pig out of.

Portofino · 03/09/2010 22:06

intrigued at fishing guinea pigs out of pampas grass! If you take wine to "drinks" it would imply things about your alcohol consumption (that may or may not be justified Grin) After Eight mints better me thinks.

southeastastra · 03/09/2010 22:06

i wish my neighbours would invite me in
