What do we take with us?

I don't mean some kind of mahoosive bouquet. We just have a lovely local florists that does nice little posies, arrangements etc for under a tenner.

Mind you, if you come to my house ALL gifts are welcome. I tried not to be wasn't insulted when friend from UK turned up with a whole weekends worth of meals! But as she made a steak and kidney pie, apple crumble and brought the hugest chicken I have seen in years, together with the contents of her organic veg box, I quickly got over it! Yum. They can come again.

LynetteScavo · 04/09/2010 13:02

What about a bag of apples from our tree? Hmm

WannaBeMeAgain · 04/09/2010 13:05

I think apples from your tree would be lovely. I would take wine for a dinner invote but for a come over and meet us cause we've not been here long I'd take flowers.

And do we need to invite them back while we are there??

LynetteScavo · 04/09/2010 18:09

never ask this sort of think on mumsnet, you will end up fretting you haven't hand woven a basket and filled it with artisan breads and wild flowers.

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/09/2010 18:19

If I've been invited for 'drinks' I would assume that sufficient drink will be provided, therefore I would take flowers, chocolates or some kind of small gift like a candle in a pretty holder.

Hullygully · 04/09/2010 18:23

Two airline tickets for New York

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/09/2010 18:25

Hully - would you like to come round for drinks tonight?

Hullygully · 04/09/2010 18:26

I'd love to! Sadly we're flying off to the UAE courtesy of our last night's musical soiree.

BecauseImWorthIt · 04/09/2010 19:35

Now I think you're making that up ...

Turn the telly down.

BeenBeta · 04/09/2010 20:07

For some reason I keep thinking of that episode in The Good Life where Tom, Margot, Jerry and Barbara get hammered on 'Pea Pod Burgundy'.

LynetteScavo · 04/09/2010 21:57

So, I forgot to pick any apples, and only gave a small flower in a pot, and took no wine.

Shall I tell you the rest?

taffetacat · 05/09/2010 09:43

On the edge of my seat....

< settles in >

LynetteScavo · 05/09/2010 09:46

Well they had those HUGE wine glasses (although they only filled it about 1/4 full, if that, and no nibbles...Now my head hurts.

OP posts:
taffetacat · 05/09/2010 09:57

1/4 full? How many times did they refill it?

HUGE wine glasses are a very good sign in a neighbour

LynetteScavo · 05/09/2010 10:21

They refilled about 4 times.

Now, I know they have recently moved in and redecorated the entire house...but they had no stuff. It was like a perfect show home. I now feel like a slob, even though I've spent the last 6 weeks tidying, and taking huge amounts to the charity shop.

But I have a hang over, and can't bring myself to even sort out the desk I'm sitting at, which is piled high with sunglasses, DVDs a winter hat, a recorder, a plastic stethoscope, magazines, a tape measure, etc.

taffetacat · 05/09/2010 16:37

Maybe they have loads of boxes full of crap upstairs that they have yet to unpack.

We moved back into our house having had a total renovation/extension and the place looked relatively clutter free for about 6 months. I know! 6 months!

Been back in a year and is now looks like a tip well lived in home .

Show home = not good, guilt/envy
4 refills = v good, negates above
