I am back on board in 2 weeks, not the ship the OP is on, but one of the others in the fleet. Husband coming with me on this trip - really looking forward to it.

Well, you just insinuated that you are someone who "Believe it or not, some people actually take pollution, climate change and living minimally damaging environmentally-damaging lives seriously", so I take it you don't drive, don't take planes or buses, don't eat meat, make all your own energy (I do, I have 36 solar panels) and grow all your own veg.

If you don't do all that, then perhaps you should leave the OP in peace to enjoy her amazing experience.

You should use up less energy in projecting, maybe?

A couple of years ago I spent 2 weeks in Iceland. I'm delighted for the OP and for anyone else that gets to enrich their lives with travel, seeing amazing places. What exactly am I projecting? My pure delight at the memories this thread has brought up. Great, happy to project away. 😄

I think what needs to be done here is for you to have a little think about why you feel the need to be so goady to the OP about her holiday and choice of garden carpet.

Sounds like you're having a great time. We saw scores of spouts on the way to Iceland, though nothing so close. I did once see a pair of orcas somewhere off Norway, and there were loads of pods of dolphins in the straits of Gibraltar this year. Brilliant way to holiday.

A pod of at least 30 dolphin have just split at the bow and gone leaping and dancing down both sides. I think we struck lucky with this trip!

And closely followed by at least 12 humpback whales, staying on the surface on their way somewhere. There's a young small one as tail end Charlie, I swear he's saying "mummy wait for me!".

That's why they say you get on as a guest and get off as freight, OP and like many others Fred use American beef, which explains why it's better than at home

I did Iceland myself on Queen Anne - it seems to have replaced baltic cruises now the start turn of St Petersburg is off limits - and while it was interesting it's not a place I'll rush back to

Amazingly the damage was only 4lbs, it was worth every bite! If that's US beef then it was the tenderest and most flavourful rump I've ever eaten. I'll not think about the hormones the US use, that ship has sailed.

Like you we wouldn't go back to Iceland. It was great but once is enough. It's left us with some fantastic memories.
