How many hours have you been told to wear them a day? I’m on week 11 of mine and was told 22 hours a day and find it so stressful to fit in eating / drinking etc

Bombinia · 02/02/2026 21:09

If you're only on your first week how can you answer anything about it? I'm on tray 7 and on some great Facebook groups where you can ask about the whole journey.

I'm 22 hours too, I find it pretty easy. But I do drink tea with them in, I just take them out for food.

I got Sparks instead of Invisalign because you keep them in when eating/drinking.

I'm too scared to drink coffee in mine but I’d be lying if I said I’d not had the odd Chardonnay or two through a straw 😂

Iamacatslave · 02/02/2026 21:33

Is an orthodontist overseeing your treatment?

ALittleBitofWensleydale · 02/02/2026 21:45

How much weight have you lost! I lost loads with Invisalign as I couldn't snack. Straight teeth and thin!

Purpleavocado · 02/02/2026 21:53

I had invisalign, I had bonding on a couple of teeth at the end, which was great.
Some sets are more painful than others.
Be careful not to chomp too much or they can get very worn down by 12 or so and crack.

TheChosenTwo · 02/02/2026 21:58

Being nosey, how much have you paid and how long are they due to be on for?
my colleague had them and I was surprised to hear they only cost 1K but then she said she only had them on for 2 months which seemed crazy short, she did say it was quite a minor correction she wanted so I guess it was much cheaper than I imagined it would be because she had less trays.

KylieKangaroo · 02/02/2026 22:02

I used to wear mine only about 18 hours a day with all the snacking and tea drinking but I still got good results, you will be so pleased at the end! I love seeing before and afters photos too.

20 but I'm behaving like a zealot and I'm averaging over 21. I have the Tray Minder app which helps.

Thank you, I'm using it as a way to cut down snacking too, which is brilliant

I can already see how much you do snack without thinking about it, especially at work. Hoping to be size 8 in weeks

Well, apparently everybody says that orthodontists underestimate how long you need to wear them for.

He said about six months because it is only minor crowding but then wearing them at night for a year et cetera or something like that anyway (!) so I've worked out it'll be the end of August if there are no revisions at the end

cost 4.5k. I've gone to some guy who's amazingly qualified and lectures in orthodontist stuff nationally. I'm wondering why this is why they're so comfortable - no rubbing et cetera.

@Purpleavocadoi fancy some bonding afterwards as well. My top row is pretty good just my bottom is a bit of a mess.

I've got two "trays" (that's what they seem to call the brace itself) for two weeks and then I'm changing them weekly which is good

OP posts:
Moulez · 03/02/2026 03:16

@Purpleavocadointetesting about the chewies.
I was reading You have to use them after every time you replace the brace to get them to sit nicely.

How old are you? Presumably you have lived with those teeth for some time. What made you do it now?

Moulez · 03/02/2026 03:19

@KylieKangaroohow long were you predicted to wear them and how long did you?

I've never had braces as a child and just noticed that bottom teeth that started moving more in the last couple of years. Interestingly, my sister who's five years older than me had exactly the same thing. Same genetics I suppose.

I've paid about 3k for mine but that was on offer, they should have been 4k. It's so much money! Especially as I think they 3d print the trays, and you don't see your dentist that much, I'm on tray 7 and saw mine at the start and then I have an appointment for while I'm wearing tray 9 (10 days per tray). I thought I would have more appointments throughout but I guess there's not a lot they can do.
