There’s a lot of negative press and misinformation about benefit claimants so thought I’d start a thread. I work nearly full time and have 2 children. Ask away.

Because you made the distinction between UC child element and CB.

I merely pointed out the link you posted was about the capping of UC’s child element, not CB. I made the distinction because your posts were incorrect. I made no comment on what anyone spends their benefits on or if they should be entitled to benefits or not.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 23/10/2025 22:02

That isn’t about child benefit, you’ve even acknowledged to someone else you were wrong

I said that no one is having kids for money.

It is for UC

Yes, but that’s not what you were talking about

I might have been mixed up. I know there is a cap for UC and has been since 2017.
The UC child element is different to Child Benefit.
But no one has answered my question about how many women are having kids for the money. Funny that.

I dont think women do have kids for money, so I can’t answer that. I didn’t say or suggest they were.

everychildmatters · 23/10/2025 22:18

@XenoBitch But if that were to be true, how can anybody stop that from happening?

Well, like your username suggests... you can't.

This. This is exactly why I haven’t answered your question @XenoBitch. Your question directed at me is irrelevant because that isn’t what my post suggested or was about.

everychildmatters · 23/10/2025 22:22

@XenoBitch Exactly. Women can choose to have as many children as they like. Even if they can't realistically afford them for whatever reason.

And here we have the problem .

Well, even if they can't afford them, I don't think those kids deserve to live in poverty and that is why we have the welfare system.
It is not for the parents... it is for the children.

notreallywhynot · 23/10/2025 21:09

You say one pot but in a previous post you commented about what " you" pay for hence why I raised it.

Indeed we will have to disagree about swimming lessons not being essential. To me that is ludicrous and an excuse by you for justifying the claim. As I said " you seem to have a handle on this"

You continually disregard the fact that you SAVE monthly for your children. In my opinion there is something wrong in a system whereby someone is on benefits and is able to save money.

Everyone needs an emergency fund or savings that children can use.

everychildmatters · 23/10/2025 22:36

@XenoBitch I totally agree with you. Unfortunately though of course you will always have parents that choose not to work or use that benefit money on their kids (and absolutely not saying of course that this is always the case).
@notreallywhynot What do you suggest is the answer?

NotEnoughKnittingTime · 23/10/2025 22:38

XenoBitch · 23/10/2025 21:28

Child benefit has been capped at 2 kids for years now.

It hasn't. UC has.

everychildmatters · 23/10/2025 22:39

@NotEnoughKnittingTime Many, many people don't have enough money left at the end of the month to be able to save. Saving is a luxury.

XenoBitch · 23/10/2025 22:40

NotEnoughKnittingTime · 23/10/2025 22:38

Yes I have corrected that a few times now

Envy isn't a good look. Maybe budget better then?

everychildmatters · 23/10/2025 22:44

@NotEnoughKnittingTime If you have always had enough money to save then you have never been poor. You have no idea what it is like."Budget better!" Ah, why didn't the less well-off think of that?!! Homeless? "Just buy a house!!" 😆 😂 😆 😂 😆
And no, I'm definitely not envious of your wealth. I'd rather be less well-off and happy than loaded and miserable (and I've lived both lives).

Really? Yes I am poor. I admire anyone on UC who can budget and be able to save even if just a small amount. You just sound jealous. Good on them.

If you are the poster whose pride stops them claiming UC even though they are probably entitled to it then it is your own fault you are struggling.

What wealth is that? The few hundred we get every month with UC?

drspouse · 23/10/2025 22:56

everychildmatters · 23/10/2025 22:39

@NotEnoughKnittingTime Many, many people don't have enough money left at the end of the month to be able to save. Saving is a luxury.

Wouldn't it be better though when irregular bills come in (like the fridge or the washing machine giving up, or a child needing new shoes) for people to have a small savings pot to draw on rather than having to eat less or freeze?
I mean, being responsible and saving for a rainy day is what good money management is about, isn't it?

everychildmatters · 23/10/2025 22:57

@NotEnoughKnittingTime The obvious wealth if you have no idea that many people can't afford to save and think it's about poor budgeting!!! 😆
Have you ever needed extra top-up with benefits for any reason at all?
Same question to you @drspouse.
