No doubt I'd get a load of shade about 'bragging' but that's not the intention. If anyone is interested in asking any questions about travelling regularly with a little own, feel free to ask.

I often travel just the two of us as his Dad can't get as much time off work as I do.

As a fellow frequent traveler I'm interested to know the breakdown of 32 different countries in 3 years? That's an average of one new country every month. Have you taken one overseas trip every month of your child's life or did you do some extended place-to-place travel?

Another question, is all of the travel for you or your child? You must realise that he won't remember anything yet at such a young age so it must be for your benefit, in which case aren't you tempted to travel without him sometimes?

So several countries are via cruises so a couple of cruises visited 4-5 countries each cruise.

I do often travel monthly and I've said I'm going back to it next year.

So far we have trips booked up until May.

No I love my little travel buddy. We get quality time together. Sometimes just us and other times as a family. We've been away with other family members too.

What I'm trying to achieve is spending quality time together. He is such a confident swimmer. He interacts so well with others. It's all brilliant life skills

Literally all these things can be achieved in the UK though! Not that it particularly matters much..just mentioning

You didn’t answer this one, OP.

Why would I bother answering an obviously ridiculous question?

Do you think any part of you is trying to escape reality?

Yes but why would you want to stay in cold wet England when I could be visiting a nice sunny country instead?

Why would I want to escape reality?

I love my life. It's a hobby for me. Some people go fishing or horse ride, I go on holidays.

Don't worry, keep the flights up and England will be nice and hot too.

I love going away too...most people love holidays and I think part of that is because it's different and exciting and an escape from day to day mundane life.

CrumpledBankNote · 13/09/2024 16:23

GENUINE question because I would love to get in on the action.

What job can you do four days a week that can afford this degree of travel. I almost cried shelling out for our a 2-week standard European summer family holiday this year.

Do you think you'll have more kids? It can definitely change the dynamic travelling when there are multiple tiny people in the mix.

RedToothBrush · 13/09/2024 16:24

That's nice.

How many of them will he remember?

I guess so. Like I said, given a choice of say reading a book at home in my garden or reading a book sat by a pool watching my little one paddling in the pool, I'd always choose the latter.

Love these questions!

I am one and done. I am very happy about this as it means I can afford to give my DS the things I want to. I know I wouldn't enjoy travelling as much as I do with more than one.

As for my job, I work in finance. It pays pretty well, even part time. I did sign up to become one of those independent travel agents but it was such a scam. I do not recommend anyone do it!

In the future, all of them. For now, it's a matter of spending quality time together.

Which travel pushchair do you use ?

Cos you need to go on a plane and stay in a strange place to do that.

Ok.

I loved using the Ergobaby Metro +. It fits in the cabin and you can buy a backpack bag to put it in.

Thankfully now we don't often use the pram so if we do take it, I check the pram in (I sold the Metro + and bought a cheap Graco one as we don't use it much) and instead I bought a Miamily suitcase.

It's from Switzerland and you can sit little one on it and wheel it. I always get comments on it when we use it. It's pricey but worth it.

Aren't you worried about putting that much radiation into such a small child over such a short period?

I don't need to do anything. I want to do exactly what you've said.

Staying in a place where I don't need to cook or clean, yes please!

It's not all flights. Often it's cruises and sometimes Eurostar.

If you have any scientific evidence of this radiation, then please share the research paper with me as I'd love to consider it.

How much have you spent in total doing this?

crostini · 13/09/2024 16:34

To the people who say he won't remember it so what's the point.... that is SO SILLY!
By that logic why do anything at all with your kids? Why take the to the park or sing wheels on the bus with them? Or give them a birthday cake??
They get joy out of it in the moment
It develops who they are
Positive experiences are beneficial in early childhood.
They absolutely do remember in some sense the adventures they have in toddlerhood, not in a specific sense but well-being and personal development way.

Traveling with little ones is SO worth it! Good on you OP. We've managed to do a fair few countries but not quite in the 30s yet!

Ok so our favourite places and why are (in no particular order).

  1. Rivera Maya, Mexico. Xcaret hotel. The bay was so safe and shallow. Food was great and loved the wildlife on the reosrt.
  2. Italy. My son loves italian food so that's the main reason plus it's so pretty. We've done Venice and Rome.
  3. Germany. We went to this amazing Tropical Island water park near Berlin which was great fun.
  4. Jamaica. We went for his first birthday and the hotel was lovely. Staff were so friendly.
  5. Switzerland. Everything is so clean and fresh. It's expensive but the family specific hotels are awesome.

I'd be in no hurry to return to Romania. Whilst it was nice, we've done it now.

Budget really depends. I sometimes have these no thrills city trips to keep costs down where I'll bring loads of snacks etc with us then other times splurge and book a nice cruise.

How long did you spend there?

Jeezitneverends · 13/09/2024 16:35

Do you ever go back to the same place or is it always somewhere different?

Im a terrible creature of habit with travel and wish I wasn’t!

Oh this in spades. My kids are 5 and 16 months and they've travelled loads. 8 flights this year*. You've got to train them to travel young! DS can now sort himself out for airport security by himself, we've got a knack for getting over jetlag and adjusting routines and they'll happily go to bed in any hotel room anywhere.

OP - any tips for the 18 months - 2 age? DD got SO bored and a bit fractious on our last flight. DS wasn't flying at that point because of Covid.

*DH and I live in a city and don't have a car. Don't @me about carbon footprints if you drive everywhere.

MonsteraMama · 13/09/2024 16:40

Do you keep photo albums of all your trips for him to look back on when he's older? What's your dream destination that you're saving for when he's a bit older?

I travelled a lot with my DD when she was little and I agree with you it's so good for them, it did wonders for her confidence, social skills and just general curiosity about the world. She's 16 now and while she's only got fuzzy memories of most of the places we went when she was under 4-5, she loves going through the photo albums and talking about all the places she's been.
