No doubt I'd get a load of shade about 'bragging' but that's not the intention. If anyone is interested in asking any questions about travelling regularly with a little own, feel free to ask.

I often travel just the two of us as his Dad can't get as much time off work as I do.

When we were landing in Madeira I thought we were going to crash. It was when my little one was a lap infant and I remember crying into his head.

That's what you're supposed to do when you have a little one and the plane is going down! I often think about the mother on the 'Hudson river landing' plane who handed her baby to the stranger sitting next to her. That's just the oddest reaction I think.

i know right😳
i found this so weird. No way I would have let my baby out of my hands during a moment like this 😳

If you split the UK up you get even more.

Not if she hasn’t visited Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 or Wales 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

Are you worried about your carbon footprint and climate change impacting your child’s future?

Are you worried that you’ve created another tiny consumer (or two) who will contribute to global warming ?

Didn’t think so …

ZoeCM · 13/09/2024 20:31

We really need to do something to get the message about climate change out. This thread is proof that it just isn't sinking in. People are actually saying that jealousy is the reason people are pointing out the damage the OP is causing to her child's future.

Off-setting is mostly greenwashing; the idea that you can pay to balance the out the impact of dozens of flights per year is a fairytale.

@Dinoswearunderpants could you PM me too? Dying to see how the other half live, travelling with my children is absolute torture.

Amazing @Dinoswearunderpants can you DM me too please 🙏

What’s wrong with going to the park on weekends?

Personally I think what ops doing sounds a lot more fun 😂

Newsenmum · 13/09/2024 20:39

Also op I travelled a lot as a kid - not as much as you’ve done but still maybe 4 abroad trips a year and each one very exciting. Honestly I love looking back. It was incredible. And I love the photos of the ones I can’t remember! Was great for my parents.

I can’t do all that now for financial reasons and because I can’t with my sen kid. But I would if I could. :)

Notimeforaname · 13/09/2024 20:39

I love my life. It's a hobby for me. Some people go fishing or horse ride, I go on holidays.

Delighted for you op. Keep doing what makes you happy!

While I don't have children, this is how I also view travel.
I dont travel nearly as much as you but we tend to go on 5 or 6 holidays a year.

It gets us through work and the shit times knowing we never have to wait longer than 6-10 weeks for a holiday. Life never feels boring or mundane as there is always a new holiday to be excited for!!

I make a meal out of packing and start it a week or two before🤣

Apart from mumsnet and YouTube I dont have other social media so my evenings are spent searching flights, hotels, comparing prices etc.

Booking and going on holidays is honestly a hobby for some.

I find it very funny how annoyed people get from others enjoying their own lives and doing what they like.🤣

It’s disingenuous to suggest that none of the pointless vitriol OP is on the receiving end of isn’t at least in part motivated by jealousy that’s dressed up as environmental concerns/ concerns for her child. She’s explicitly been told to shut up because of the delicate sensibilities of those in a worse financial position.

She’s travelling because she enjoys it. Her child may not remember some of these trips when he’s older, but so what? ‘Because I want to’ is all the justification she needs. If you wouldn’t want to that’s fine, no one said you had to. OP wants to do it and can afford it though, so fucking good for her!

Personally I loved travelling as a kid, and ‘painful travel injections’ were well worth it. I even enjoyed the airport. Still do tbh.

I bet you were a fair bit older than three if you can remember it though weren’t you, so that point atm is redundant

Notimeforaname · 13/09/2024 20:41

What’s wrong with going to the park on weekends?

A day at the park is a bit shit compared to an exciting holiday I would think🤣

treadingonlego · 13/09/2024 20:41

A few have been cruises so they often visit several countries. I rarely book an excursion as I don't want to be stuck with a group in case little one is restless

So a lot of the countries you've 'visited' has just been docking at them, maybe having lunch near the ship, and then moving on same day? Amazing holidays, but hardly experiencing those countries in a way that's worth mentioning in this context.

HouseBui1d · 13/09/2024 20:42

I am really, really struggling to understand how this volume and standard of travel is possible on a combined salary of ~100K. Unless you are mortgage free or were left a hefty inheritance or something like that? DH and I are on a similar combined salary (~90K per annum). Granted, we have 2 DC, but even with one child, this sort of lifestyle would be completely beyond our means. We aren’t lavish people, we own 1 car and we live in a modest house. Even if we didn’t save every month we still wouldn’t be close to being able to afford this.

Also, the parks where I am are diabolical so no, going to the park isn't comparable.

treadingonlego · 13/09/2024 20:42

Although I've had connecting flights through Dubai and Amsterdam, so am now going to count those as countries I've been to 😅

Dinoswearunderpants · 13/09/2024 20:43

AmberFawn · 13/09/2024 19:46

This. And I’m sure your child has had to have plenty of painful travel vaccinations.
He’s three fgs, like others have said, he’s unlikely to remember any of the trips and even get a massive amount out of them in comparison to a day at the park. Honestly, long haul flights, busy airports, lots of new people all the time and constant changes of time zone sound completely overwhelming and ridiculous for a toddler.
The insta thing just cements that your motives for all this travel are not primarily to benefit your child, it’s wanting attention and bragging rights.
And if anyone has a different opinion you accuse us of being jealous. Maybe we’re not jealous, maybe we can see this for how utterly ridiculous it is. I’m sure you’ll ignore this comment because it doesn’t fit the narrative you want to engage with.

I'll ignore the comment because it's so ignorant.

Because a lot of them have been cruises, rather than indivual trips. The OP said herself they can tick off several countries in one holiday that way.

Notimeforaname · 13/09/2024 20:45

But you can surly understand that people find worth in different things? You understand people have different taste and enjoy different things right?

That's what happening here. OP gets a lot of joy and experiences from those types of holidays. You don't. Neither of you are wrong 🤣

Dinoswearunderpants · 13/09/2024 20:47

jerkchicken · 13/09/2024 20:27

WHAT? I was expecting you to be earning FAR more than £60-80k with the number of holidays you go on in a year. And you said you earn double what your partner does!

our household earns similar but there’s simply no way this would be possible for us. how are you affording all this??

Low mortgage and we don't have huge outgoings. No fancy cars. We don't go out to restaurants often. Money simply goes on our hobby.

Yes, indeed. I said they're amazing holidays, but I don't think they count for travelling bragging rights in this way.
