Hi there,

We're pleased to announce that with just a few days to go until the General Election, Tom Baldwin, former Labour advisor and author of "Keir Starmer: The Biography" - the Sunday Times bestselling biography of the Labour Leader will be joining us for an AMA on Sunday evening.

Tom's biography of the man who looks set to be the next Prime Minister has been described as "the first serious and consistently readable biography of Starmer" (Patrick Maguire, the Times) and "absolutely riveting and very timely" (Amol Rajan). You can join him live on this thread from 7.30pm on Sunday, or post your questions in advance below.

Thanks,
MNHQ

Absolutely he can pick up the phone now and ask her what women need and protect her from the threats and misogyny in the party and give her assurances that she can serve on the women's and equality committee.
Keir can call her right now.

Support humans don't get phone calls, don't be silly.

You don’t need to say all women to imply it. Constant references to women quite clearly implies all.

I cannot be bothered to continue this discussion with you it is not you I am addressing on this thread, stop trying to derail it.

Hey Tom. Keir always speaks warm and emotionally about his mother, less so about his dad. Do you think some of his drive and ambition comes from wanting to prove himself to his dad in some way?

Maybe there’s a bit of that. But a lot of his drive comes from his mum who was always in pain from Still’s Disease. He talks a lot about how if she could get up and do stuff, so can he…

Hmmm. Do you think that's really possible?

Thinking more about it. Its pretty appalling if the leader of a political party is unable to contact one of his own MPs.

Hi Tom, also interested in whether Keir views he made any missteps re the party's approach to the situation in Palestine?

He definitely screwed up in October with an LBC that was widely misinterpreted but he didn’t correct fast enough. Policy and attitudes have changed - in my view - for the better since then.

I’m off now because my takeaway has arrived .
Thanks to everyone for your questions and letting me be here for a while.

Hi @TomBaldwin66 as the link clarifies Keir has accepted donations from Israel lobbyists, in your opinion do you think this is a reason he hasn't called for a ceasefire and allowing the labour party to be complicit in the genocide of Palestinians, predominantly children?

To life long labour supporters such as myself who now are politically homeless as labour appears to not care about poverty, austerity, public services, or indeed anything that a labour government should be championing for, how does he propose to win us back?

I'd like to see a government who really cared about attacks that affect mostly women and children, so domestic abuse, acid attacks or sexual assaults and vowed to give the perpetrators not just a long prison sentence as a deterrent but also invest in rehabilitation and therapy prior to being released back into the community to reoffend, is this something keir would consider addressing as its certainly something that does require a shake up.

What will keir do to help eradicate food poverty? I'm not expecting taylor swift style miracles, but I'd like to think there was some plans to ending people having to rely on charity to eat.

Labour MPs have accepted over £280,000 from Israel lobby

Twenty percent of Labour’s sitting MPs have been funded by pro-Israel groups or individuals – including 15 who have been directly funded by the Israeli state.

What did he say, I must have missed that?

Don't know the answer to that, I'm afraid. From the outside, it seems this relationship is being conducted in the media which is never usually the most productive kind of dialogue for anyone.

I don't think it was answered was it? Other than implying he must be suffering from some dreadful ailment that makes him unable to pick up a phone.

He also implied that Rosie Duffield would broadcast the content of any conversation she had with Keir Starmer, I think.

At what pint did Keir and the Labour Party realise that women have the vote?
when did they realise that women's rights are almost as important as a football match?

Magnificent typo Wine

There’s a very important word missing there which is “some”. Please don’t presume that you speak for all - or even the majority - of women. You don’t.

Right now that Tom has gone, I am going to address this with you @BIossomtoes :

If you read what I wrote carefully you will see that I said Women ask about women's rights and single sex spaces I am referring to the women who do ask those questions, talk and care about those things. If you don't and it appears you don't then you are not in that group that I am referring to are you?

Lastly, this thread was not the time or place for you to jump in with your word policing, and not me Guv act it wasn't about you and your desire to derail the thread was, in my opinion, completely out of order.

BIossomtoes · 30/06/2024 22:33

There was no desire to derail the thread. It’s out of order for you to speak to me like a headteacher addressing a recalcitrant child. Who do you think you are?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 30/06/2024 22:55

You were exactly the same, @BIossomtoes, give it a rest. You lectured her first.

The post wasn't addressed to you @BIossomtoes, it isn't up to you to dictate how women speak.
