Hello everyone! I'm a (very) long time lurker of Mumsnet, particularly the AMA-section - I thought I'd start a thread of my own in case anyone is curious about my country, Denmark, or anything Danish! I'm happy to answer any question!

The wine menu thing is common in fancy restaurants not just in Denmark. Basically they have chosen all the wine for you and it's a glass of a different wine with each course. The idea is they have picked wines that complement each dish.

Gets interesting if you have a tasting menu and it's 7 or 8 courses remembers being barely able to stagger out of the door before breaking into song

Ah thank you - I have never come across this before!

No need for a thick winter jacket I would say. Regarding the wine menu it’s a glass per course. Can get interesting ;). Sometimes they also have a juice menu as an alternative, also matched to the dishes

Have only done the non-alcoholic version once, felt very ripped off. Water would have been better.

What time of year would you suggest for a weekend visit? Would October still be pleasant? I don't mind cool but if rather not have to buy an entire new winter wardrobe 😂

AnnaMagnani · 29/03/2024 11:49

It would be well out of pleasant and into cold, not so cold you needed to buy extreme weather gear but cold, and probably wet.

Thanks! Maybe I will stick with my camel coat and a lined raincoat as I was originally planning. Yes, I saw juice menus as well - I will stick with water as @AnnaMagnani suggests 😀These were fairly touristy restaurants hence why I wasn't expecting wine pairing menus!

I enjoyed reading this thread a few weeks ago, with its many Danes.

Just wanted to come and say I'm so very sorry about what's happened to the Borsen.

I think they said the fire is under control now, and members of the public have been helping rescue artworks. But it must be gutting.

Crikeyalmighty · 16/04/2024 18:43

@PerkingFaintly having lived there I was gutted- it was a very lovely building

Thanks for the thread OP! I found it very interesting. I visited Denmark about 15 years ago for work (Copenhagen) and loved it and have been keen to return ever since!
