Hello I have so many questions we need more people like you in here. Firstly how did it go? Hope you are recovering well! I have a very low cervix and a rectocele (self diagnosed) don’t know if any thing else is wrong up there lol! It’s been a hard time processing this as only have 1 child (16 months old) and I’m only 28. Can I ask how old you are? And how long it took from your first appointment to getting surgery? I was referred by GP 9 weeks ago and still heard nothing about my first appointment and it’s effecting my daily life. I also worry as because I want another baby they will not operate but this could be years away and I can’t put up with it. I’m thinking about trying to go private but don’t have the money. What was the pain like? What was being put to sleep like? Was sex a problem for you? My walls are so lax :( this is with constant pelvic floor exercises too. So far are you happy you had this done?

Thankyou means a lot!

poppym12 · 17/10/2022 21:31

I'm interested to hear more from you too. I have a rectocele and have started seeing a private pelvic physiotherapist.

With consistent exercises I've noticed a major improvement in the slight bladder issues I have but not much has changed with the rectocele and I find splinting, even though only occasionally, awful.

Bridget944 · 17/10/2022 21:37

Can I ask if you’ve seen a gyno? Did they say surgery was an option or just exercises x

minticecreamisjustok · 17/10/2022 21:40

How did they diagnose what was causing it, did they scan you too?

Bitterbean · 17/10/2022 21:40

What stage were they. I have stage 2 cystocele and rectocele. Haven't seen dr about it in 2 years. Am trying to cope with it for now. Would love surgery at some point but not sure it's worth the risks.

Covidwoes · 17/10/2022 21:41

Placemarking! I have a rectocele, so would like to know how this went. What intervention did you have before you decided on surgery? Hope you're feeling ok.

UserNameNameNameUser · 17/10/2022 21:44

What has recovery been like?

How bad were symptoms for you to decide to have the surgery?

Did you put up with it for a long time first?

Did you have any difficulty getting NHS to agree, and how long was the wait?

EerilyDevilled · 17/10/2022 21:46

Hope you are feeling OK, I had this surgery 10 years ago and it was a tough recovery. Have you been advised to avoid lifting anything much for the first couple of weeks?

imnotthatkindofmum · 17/10/2022 21:46

Also very interested. I have a rectocele. I've been preoccupied with other health issues but would now like to investigate this further and the possibility of surgery.

Could you tell us how it affected you pre surfer. Really just interested in gauging how bad mine is in comparison. So eg how much 'splinting" was required, how it affect bowel movements and perhaps period management? (Eg I find using my cup tricky but can't use tampons at all without discomfort)

Screwcorona · 17/10/2022 21:48

Following as have this issue...not sure what surgery entails

Bridget944 · 17/10/2022 21:53

Can I ask how old you was and if it all went well? Has it all still held in place

CallingElfRescue · 17/10/2022 21:54

Oh, this is interesting thank you. I'm currently on the nhs wait list for this surgery. Am going to watch this thread with interest.

Bridget944 · 17/10/2022 21:55

Do any of you ladies in here have issues with looseness and tampons falling out as well as splinting? I have to splint most bowl movements :( I find putting my feel on a stool sometimes helps. How old are you all I feel way to young for all this :( have any of your gynos offered surgery?

Bridget944 · 17/10/2022 21:55

How long is the wait for surgery atm

Juyt · 17/10/2022 21:58

Can I ask what your first symptoms were?

Also do you have a diastasis recti? I gave this and have read that a weak core makes you a greater risk for prolapse

Beginningless · 17/10/2022 22:03

Do they expect you to need any future surgeries?

arbitraryarsehole · 17/10/2022 22:36

Please could someone tell me what splinting is?

Bridget944 · 17/10/2022 23:06

Where you have to push your back vagina wall to help you pass a stool :(

Hi it went OK thanks, I am 47 I have had it since had my first child with difficult birth over 20 years ago but wasn't that bad for years last fews years it got worse so referred about 3 or maybe 4 years ago at first they just fobbed me off with a sheet of pelvic floor excersizes that I didn't even know if I was doing right or not, then complained again and told surgery best option no offer of pessary physio or anything whatsoever. I agreed to have op but didn't really want it as scared or consequences, put it off and put it off then read about physiotherapy for it and asked for it they said they thought they had offered that already 😒 but never had so referred me took a few weeks physio was good gave me completely different excersizes and tips but also said I don't think anything but surgery is really gona fix this... So decided as getting older and menopause approaching will just do it. On list prob 3 years or more cos of covid but had it as day surgery as they are trialling it. Got cancelled a year ago cos of covid and I was offered other dates 6 months later and offered a few different ones but refused for 1 reason (scared probably) and another then finally agreed a month ago and here we are. Pain wasn't too bad catheter was worst bloaty period pain and then horrendous going to toilet and has been a bit painful but painkillers worked catheter gone and today is OK just a bit achey surprisingly fine. Being put to sleep was fine I was anxious but wanted it over n done with told me to breathe oxygen then I was gone when I woke up I thought someone was trying to wake me up from lovely lie in! Sex wasn't effected for him (apparantly) was good for me but yes felt a bit lax often I would put it off because I didn't want him to see the bulge was embarrassed and when couldn't empty bowel properly there was no way I could have sex as he would feel it and God knows what would happen. But could control bowels etc. I was having doubts yesterday if I was happy as in pain and worrying it hadn't worked etc but yes I am relieved and hopefully it has worked when I do pelvic floor excersizes they are easy I can feel 2 separate entities instead of one and struggling I feel like I'm on the way to normality and a designer vagina!

How did they diagnose what was causing it, did they scan you too?

No scan just had a look asked me to cough and squeeze literally told me my squeeze was "crap" yes his words! It was obvious from looking. They never diagnosed what was causing it he says there's just a weakness in pelvic floor however we all know difficult births forceps ventouse baby being pulled out before ready episiotomomies and birth injuries cause this and that is what happened and has just got worse as time has gone on.

Hi OP, thanks for posting here! I wanted to ask did they use mesh for your repair or just your own tissues?

Hope you have a good straightforward recovery from here.
