Placemarking! I have a rectocele, so would like to know how this went. What intervention did you have before you decided on surgery? Hope you're feeling ok.

Think I may have already answered but basically nothing really excersizes a few weeks of physio which is just more excersizes thank you

What has recovery been like?

How bad were symptoms for you to decide to have the surgery?

Did you put up with it for a long time first?

Did you have any difficulty getting NHS to agree, and how long was the wait?

Recovery should be about 6 weeks but OK to work after 2 weeks stitches will take 4 months to fully disolve been told he should wear 2 condoms unless want to look like a porcupine! Thread is strong n sharp! I was in hospital as day stay from 7am left about 6pm could Walk really slowly n painfully woke up in night in bad pain mainly from catheter that I convinced myself they had put in wrong but apparantly it is uncomfortable and u should ewpect some discomfort took painkillers and was OK. This trial includes removing and catheter yourself next day and did this at first opportunity it's really easy just press button and suppose to fall out however it didn't and I had to tug it super gently omigod horrendous.... Anyway spent the day dosed up on painkillers and was actually fine. Had both constipation and diahrea from op n painkillers probably really horrible going to no 2 was straining but getting blobs of diarrhea (sorry you asked!) other times felt like razor blades sure I had some burst piles! It has gradually got better and went sort of normally today so happy with that.
Symptoms that Made me agree was fed up with it nothing else was fixing it. Symptoms were bloating not being able to empty fully having to manually splint needing to go too often stomach ache tired poker bum pains embarrassment interfering in sex life and every day life.
Put up with it for years I didn't ask for op NHS offered it doing as day stay and agreeing to take out own catheter etc cuts your wait time by years but not all hospitals are offering it I feel like a Guinea pig! Really it wasn't that long from agreeing to getting a date but extended cos of covid and my refusal.

Hope you are feeling OK, I had this surgery 10 years ago and it was a tough recovery. Have you been advised to avoid lifting anything much for the first couple of weeks?

Thank you yes nothing more than what can lift with 1 hand so max 10 pounds or less depending for 6 weeks. Are you OK and back to normal now are u pleased u had it done?

Also very interested. I have a rectocele. I've been preoccupied with other health issues but would now like to investigate this further and the possibility of surgery.

Could you tell us how it affected you pre surfer. Really just interested in gauging how bad mine is in comparison. So eg how much 'splinting" was required, how it affect bowel movements and perhaps period management? (Eg I find using my cup tricky but can't use tampons at all without discomfort)

Can't use tampons at all no good whatsoever never used mooncup as heard they can make it worse not sure if that's true. Splinting every single time go toilet unless had runs and actually even then I have had to do it as gets stuck with no way out yuk. worse with periods with stool stuck having to manually force it out. Never felt completely empty going a few times a day but could control it.

How long is the wait for surgery atm

Don't quote me as I was recovering from anaesthesia but pretty sure he said the wait for same op the traditional (nondaystay) is now up to 7 years cos of covid and is non essential!!!!!

Can I ask what your first symptoms were?

Also do you have a diastasis recti? I gave this and have read that a weak core makes you a greater risk for prolapse

No idea what that is sorry! Very first symptoms were dragging feeling after childbirth and when period came feeling like the whole bloody thing was going to fall out (period pain!) a bulge in vagina that wasn't there before and eventually struggling to poo

Do they expect you to need any future surgeries?

Hopefully not

Hi OP, thanks for posting here! I wanted to ask did they use mesh for your repair or just your own tissues?

Hope you have a good straightforward recovery from here.

Hi no they don't use mesh anymore too many issues with that just good old fashioned stitches (dissolvable)

Thank you yes nothing more than what can lift with 1 hand so max 10 pounds or less depending for 6 weeks. Are you OK and back to normal now are u pleased u had it done?

Yes, I had it at a similar age and it has been a success. At the time there were some long running prolapse threads on MN which were a great help, a lot of us having surgery and some weren't advised about lifting restrictions afterwards at all, so if I come across anyone having the surgery now I always check they know this. Nothing heavier than a half full kettle for the first two weeks is what I was told and only then start building back up very gradually.

I went back to work (office job) after 6 weeks as I couldn't sit comfortably in an upright chair for long enough before that (WFH wasn't really a thing or I could probably have done that). It was 12 weeks before I felt totally normal again but it was well worth it. Your journey sounds similar to mine.

Ithasteeth · 18/10/2022 17:13

Thank you that is good to hear glad it all went well for you

Slingsanderrors · 18/10/2022 18:54

Hope this surgery has improved since I had it 22 years ago, was good for about 16 years, now incontinent of urine and wearing pads all the time aged 66. GP says nothing to be done.

Bridget944 · 18/10/2022 19:34

How is it non essential if it causes so much grief to life :(

wouldukissafrog · 18/10/2022 19:41

Placemaking

Bridget944 · 18/10/2022 20:11

How long have you been on the waiting list and how long did it take to get on the list, how old are you, thanks xx

Bridget944 · 18/10/2022 20:13

@CallingElfRescue can I hear about your story?

Bridget944 · 18/10/2022 20:16

@Bitterbean has this been diagnosed? What is a stage 2 ? Immune u can slightly see when normal but when baring down it’s nearly coming out :( also is your servic low ?

Bitterbean · 18/10/2022 20:33

I think there are 3 levels of severity. 2 is in the middle. They have been diagnosed yes. Deemed not important enough by an over-worked NHS.
I'm glad yours have been sorted out and I hope the results last for you.

Bridget944 · 18/10/2022 20:13

@CallingElfRescue can I hear about your story?

I got referred by my practice nurse to a consultant at the hospital when I went to see her about a year ago. I had had 2 fast births and didn't feel 'right' at all down there. Was also suffering with stress incontinence.

The consultant did an exam and said yes a fairly serious prolapse and I had to have a urodynamics test (which was awful, truly awful) and I failed spectacularly. I was then offered 3 different surgery options and have gone with the one when everything gets pulled back up where it should be (can't think of the name). Apparently a 9-12 month wait. They ring me every now and then and remind me I'm on the list.

Bridget944 · 19/10/2022 12:22

@CallingElfRescue can I ask what this test was? And your age? Have you had the op yet is it just for rectocele ? I’m so thinking about trying to get a loan out to get this sorted but don’t know if I’ll be accepted. I’m only 28 this is getting me so down

Bridget944 · 19/10/2022 18:36

Please keep us updated on your recovery x

Mrstiggywinkle44 · 19/10/2022 18:41

Hope your recovery goes ok xxxx

There's a really good informative support group on FB called FPOPS UK over 5k ladies all going through varying degrees of prolapse issues, surgery and struggles. It's worth joining if you like groups and support. It's a condition that needs to be supported and spoken about more more awareness is needed. I have 3

I think the test is a bladder function test if you Google it with NHS on it it will bring up the info it is not for rectocele (rectum) or enterocele (bowel) as far as i know anyway
