Was it mumps ?

EllieRosesMammy · 03/10/2022 21:28

Tell him not to bloody listen to any doctors telling him he's infertile and still use contraception if hes not planning children at that moment...because doctors told both of my children's fathers that they were "infertile" and/or "would struggle to conceive". I had no issues conceiving with either of them 😂

EasterIssland · 03/10/2022 21:29

How is he feeling about it

Was it mumps ?

His bloods show he has had mumps but it’s a generic condition called Kilnfelter Syndrome. What’s the you ask? Click here to the NHS website

We have it confirmed. His sperm tests x2 are negative and be surgical sperm extrication has been done. I know he doesn’t want kids yet and is having unprotected sex with his long term girlfriend.

How is he feeling about it

Gutted to begin with. He said who would ever want to be with a boy who can’t have kids. Now 3 years on he has a beautiful girlfriend who knows it all accepts it all and is so supportive of him which is all we as parents could ask for we are so blessed with her. He has accepted it now, sperm is in a freezer after being surgically extracted

How did you find out?

BabyST · 03/10/2022 21:47

babynosebleed · 03/10/2022 21:40

How did you find out?

@babynosebleed we found out by accident. We thought he had testicular torsion he had sudden pain and swelling of his testicle took him to the GP who send us to surgical assessment it turned out it wasn’t twisted but during the exam they noticed puberty to be delayed and his testicals to be small at 2mm and 2.5mm so they sent us for an ultrasound and did countless blood tests

As above, he still needs to use contraception to prevent STDs

megosaurusrex · 03/10/2022 22:02

How old was he when he found out? Why was it suspected there was a problem with his fertility?

Asking because my little boy also has inherited infertility from his father Sad DH had to do a sperm retrieval and we then did ICSI. DS would need to do the same if he wants children in the future.

megosaurusrex · 03/10/2022 22:05

Sorry ignore that first question, just re read the title of the thread 😂

BabyST · 03/10/2022 22:06

Initially it wasn’t suspected at all. At least not by us we had no clue. The tests took about 2 years to do. He had micro TESE surgical sperm extraction and they only got 5 sperm. That surgery was so painful.

@megosaurusrex im sorry you’re boy has this too. How old is he? Feel free to PM me if you don’t want to do it publicly

I'm gobsmacked you are ok with him having unprotected sex. What about std? I hope he feels ok about everything now that the sperm is successfully banked. He will be able to have children using IVF, like lots of people. Will they have to do sperm selection as well?

BabyST · 03/10/2022 22:14

I wouldn’t say I’m okay with it I accept it now. He’s with his girlfriend a year now we have discussed it we are pretty open family. It’s how I know. They both want unprotected sex they are both 21 now so old enough and wide enough to make this decision. He is 100% not going to make her pregnant that’s a fact. For STD if it’s safe there’s low risk

do you have other children OP?

coldcoldheartt · 03/10/2022 22:20

Confused he's an adult in a committed, long term relationship. It's not up to his mum to be ok with it?!

Fair enough; so long as its an exclusive relationship I suppose they might as well enjoy this benefit from infertility.

daveisnotawave · 03/10/2022 22:32

He's 21 years old with a long term partner/girlfriend

Why on earth wouldn't they just leave the contraception out? Why bother with it when she can't get pregnant! Some odd people on this site

NK346f2849X127d8bca260 · 03/10/2022 22:37

My son is 21 and he was told at the age of 16 that he could be infertile because the CF mutation he carries can cause absense of the vas deferens. I was not expecting that so didn't really ask much as my son was looking embarrased. The consultant just told him that if he wanted children in the future to just try for 6 months and if no success to contact GP.

BabyST · 03/10/2022 22:56

Yes we have 3 kids 21, 16 and 14

Any boys ? Can they have it ?

BabyST · 03/10/2022 23:17

All boys. So far the 16 year old doesn’t appear to have it. The 14 year old is slow to start puberty so it’s a worry he could have it. They all have regular 6 month check ups with our GP

Sonnex · 04/10/2022 00:53

Can't they have a blood test to test for Klinefelters and put your mind at rest?

He's 16 months so it's all a very long way off still. Just get a bit sad when I remember about it. We have had genetic counselling which advised us on how to talk about the subject with him when it comes up, so that's been helpful.
