NC for this as I remained anonymous, which was fairly pointless as I did tell some family and friends and it spread from there.

@Mooey89

What sort of house did you buy? A massive one or just a larger than average??
Just larger than average. There's only two of us and some pets and I would not be able to deal with the upkeep of a mansion

Congrats and thank you for doing this thread. I’ve always found it interesting.

• did you go private healthcare or stay with NHS? If private, how does that differ?

• do you still try to set yourself a budget /watch what you spend monthly or do you spend whatever you want?

• do you travel first class/private plane? If so what is that like?

• do you find that people treat you differently when they find out you have money- strangers etc?

• did you tell your work you’d won the lottery and that is why you were leaving? If not what did you tell them?

• what is your lifestyle like now? Do you have a cleaner/cook etc?

Thanks in advance!

CurlyhairedAssassin · 15/06/2021 19:34

I do date but I don't tell them I won the lottery. Majority of the men I've dated are also comfortable

Where/how do you meet these "comfortable" men if you're volunteering 3-4 days a week? Are you a member of one of those rich people's dating agencies?

Raaaaaaarr · 15/06/2021 19:34

Are you aware that if all of the cash is with one bank in a cash account and that bank fails then you could lose the lot as only £85k is guaranteed (figure you know this but feel the need to tell you).

TheSecondAct · 15/06/2021 19:34

What was the cause of you being able to date better quality men, if you’ve kept your win private?

NCuserer · 15/06/2021 19:35

@2020isnotbehaving

Do you have private Heath care or use the NHS? Do you have a new life style or do you still live same life just not going to work? What sort of interest does 14million give you? Or is it invested in stocks n shares sort of thing?
I still use NHS but I am a healthy person. I live pretty much the same lifestyle with less worry. I do of course indulge in some things but I would like to think I'm well grounded.

Less than 65k

Hollow yes and there are good IFAs out there who can make your money grow in a very safe and secure way.
If it were me, I would want that so I could actually do something with the money.
A friend of mine has made a huge difference to schools in an african country, all from barely nothing and building up with talks, donations, Ebaying unwanted goods, raffles. She pays her own travel to go out there at least 3 times a year and is instrumental in bringing computers into schools over there.

If it were me I would want to do something like that

Imnothereforthedrama · 15/06/2021 19:35

Oh congratulations op , thanks for this thread . I love this kind of thing.
I’m interested though did people family / friends ask or hint at request for money ?
Did you not like anyone asking for money and if so why ? I’m not saying you’d be wrong but say if my brother asked I’d probably not mind but if a relative I’d not seen for years yeah I would. Or was it that you were fed up of people asking ?
I think I’d do the same and have no publicity too .

Thewiseoneincognito · 15/06/2021 19:35

@FeelinSpendy

Do you think you look physically different now? I’ve always been fascinated by how a lot of people with money seem to have a sort of veil of wealth or ‘sheen’ to them. The same thing happens when people become famous and their image slowly becomes upgraded. Never been able to put a finger on what it is though - good skin/ expensive clothes/ good haircut etc.
I think sometimes this is down to simply having the chance to slow down and being able to afford to rest. Eating well and a good haircut along with some nice clothes will polish anyone up.
NCuserer · 15/06/2021 19:37

@whatausername

What are your unfulfilled dreams/hopes now? So many people seem to dream of winning the lottery but you've already done that!
See my son go to uni and progess in life, same for nieces and newphew.

Travel more and go on a cruise, one of the things I've always wanted to do

Congratulations. I just managed to get a last min Euro million's ticket! Inspired! ❤️🥳

HollowTalk · 15/06/2021 19:38

But isn't that 0.005% interest? Why would you do that?

I believed this thread up until this point.

DeepThinkingGirl · 15/06/2021 19:39

HollowTalk

Not all
Her money is in the bank. She bought houses and assets and so only some of it is in the bank so your calculations aren’t correct

Etinox · 15/06/2021 19:39

@MaloInAnAppleTree

Going back to your will, you say you’ve left money to charity. I hope you’ve left it as defines cash sums not a percentage of the residue? They’re absolute nightmares to deal with if you do that, because they’re legally obliged to squeeze every last penny out of the estate and not compromise on things like whether your favourite niece gets your purple Mulberry bag or it goes on EBay.
This is really important. A friend left everything to a big, big charity and they quibbled over the embalming costs.
HollowTalk · 15/06/2021 19:39

I based that on £12m.

Yayayaya20 · 15/06/2021 19:39

The green eyed monsters are starting to appear I see!

Just because the OP doesn’t disclose to possible suitors that she won the lottery doesn’t mean she is pretending to be a pauper and money attracts money.

Roussette · 15/06/2021 19:40

I was trying to work it out.

Even me with my savings ... I have an instant access account and get 0.5%.

If you invested in Unit Trusts through an IFA .... your growth would be 6% per annum or more

HollowTalk · 15/06/2021 19:42

Just do interest/capital! Yes, it doesn't make any sense.

BipolarSunset · 15/06/2021 19:42

Such an interesting post OP!

Oh to be in your shoes one day Smile

NCuserer · 15/06/2021 19:43

@SunburstsOrMarbleHalls

Wow congratulations, you seem to have taken this all in your stride in a sensible way.

I know you said that you had an initial splurge (as would most people) but now the dust has settled do you still budget and have a think before splashing out on expensive things even though you have vast funds at your disposal?

I spend pretty much the same amount of money every month but I splurge when I want to. Whats the point of winning the lottery if you're not going to spend it
OP posts:
GappyValley · 15/06/2021 19:45

What was the most outrageous ask/begging you had from people who found out about your win?

Nononsense2 · 15/06/2021 19:47

That's amazing! Congratulations.
Can you wish me good luck too (just in case)? Grin

NCuserer · 15/06/2021 19:50

@HollowTalk

I based that on £12m.
I am trying to go through the q's in order but I'll answer this quickly. I have less than £10 million left as my overseas property were expensive. Interest rates for private accounts are very low and can be less than 0.1%

I have no interest in stocks and bonds. I'm happy with managing my property abroad, thats takes up a lot of my time

OP posts:
sourrain · 15/06/2021 19:52

Do you take much notice of bills like electricity, water? Like ever think "oh we've had an expensive [relatively] month"?

NCuserer · 15/06/2021 19:53

@2020isnotbehaving

Do you have plans for the majority of it when you die? Like school in your name or something or would you just pass it on to your son and hope for the best?
Family and charity
