I now weigh half that thanks to weight loss surgery.

Ask me anything, about being fat, the surgery or whatever else..

Sorry another question, does your partner have a weight issue? Do your kids?

Sleeved111 · 04/01/2020 21:15

Do you have folds of skin where you have shrunk, and are you considering plastic surgery for those?

I have loose skin on my arms and my stomach, some on my thighs too. My breast have always been awful but are a good 10cm longer than before .
In theory I'd love skin removal and breast uplift/augmentation but I'm not sure I'm willing to risk my life on the operating table again and also the issue with only tolerating calpol.

Could a dietician help with your fruit and vegetable aversion?

As I'm not underweight I've always been refused help from the GP. I've seen a dietitian privately and they didn't seem to understand what my problems were, they instead thought I didn't know how to eat a healthy diet.

does your partner have a weight issue? Do your kids?

No, my partner is very athletic, he's slim and a long distance runner.
My DD is slim, I've always been careful to ensure she eats a wide range of foods and she loves sports.

Lookingmyagenow · 04/01/2020 21:24

Could you have NLP or hypnosis to help with the food issues?

Sleeved111 · 04/01/2020 21:35

I've actually been thinking about trying hypnosis @Lookingmyagenow, it's always felt a bit 'woo' so have been reluctant to give it a go.

You can ask anything you want, I know that before I became so large that I had lots of random questions about how bigger people managed things. I won't be offended.

Hypnosis is brilliant, really really helps, try it.

Sleeved111 · 04/01/2020 21:52

Is there a way of finding a 'proper' one Lookingmyagenow? I don't want them to convince me I'm a chicken! Grin

Recommendation is best, failing that there is a official hypnotherapy accredited body, not quite sure what they're called. Tbh you need to like the therapist, don't be scared to try a couple to find the right fit.

Have your friends and family been kind?

Mounty87 · 04/01/2020 21:58

Do you feel you should be congratulated for the weight loss?

I have a family member who had surgery and has lost over ten stone. She keeps posting on IG and Facebook about her ‘success’ and is getting tons of replies saying ‘well done’ and how amazing she is. But it was the stomach stapling that did it, not willpower, motivation, dedication and hard work...

It really confuses me! And I don’t mean to sound snarky but I would really like to know what you think. Smile

Bluntness100 · 04/01/2020 22:00

Thanks op for answering again.

Sleeved111 · 04/01/2020 22:05

Thank you Lookingmyagenow, I'll have a look up.

Have your friends and family been kind?

Only my DH and parents know, they've been supportive.

No, I don't feel I should be congratulated, I actually loathe it and cringe inside if anyone comments on my weight loss.
I have to say, weight loss surgery is not magic, it's just a tool and it does take a certain level of motivation and willpower to be successful using it, if I wanted to I could stretch my stomach.

Don't speech and language therapists deal with eating issues - the texture thing might be something for one of those, rather than a dietician? I really think it would be worth asking one, anyway.

I'm just over 19 stone and can't imagine how difficult it must have been for you. I'm so glad you lost it : )

Sleeved111 · 04/01/2020 22:11

No need to thank me Bluntness100, I'm bored as fuck and this is passing the time.

This might sound like an odd question but I'm just curious - when you dream, are you the size you are now in your dreams or are you your old size? (hope that makes sense).

Mrsmadevans · 04/01/2020 22:23

'two slices of toast with butter, 4 cookies, small portion of chips with cheese and one slice of bread, one packet crisps, a cheese scone with butter'
OP how on earth can you maintain or lose weight on this amount of food?

Ginger1982 · 04/01/2020 22:24

Do you worry that you might balloon again and undo everything?

Sleeved111 · 04/01/2020 22:28

OP how on earth can you maintain or lose weight on this amount of food

That's about 2000calories (little butter and small danish bread). I'm on my feet a good 15 hours 5 days over 7.

Neither, in my dreams I'm a slim size 12Grin

Do you worry that you might balloon again and undo everything?

A little.

"I have to say, weight loss surgery is not magic, it's just a tool and it does take a certain level of motivation and willpower to be successful using it, if I wanted to I could stretch my stomach."

OP, I admire what you've achieved, and think you have every reason to be proud of your weight loss, because as you said above, you still had to be motivated to do it. I'm glad you started this thread, because this is something lots of people are curious about, and many people wonder if surgery is an easy fix, but from what you said it's not as simple as that.

Your current diet is not perfect, but then most people don't eat perfectly, temptation is all around us and it's difficult to resist sometimes. It seems like your main protein is cheese and you really enjoy carbs too. There was a boy on the news a while back who started to lose his eyesight due to eating mainly crisps and not much else - think he lacked certain vitamins. So, it might be wise to supplement with a good multivitamin to compensate for anything your diet is lacking.

As you can't tolerate the texture of fruit and veg, is it worth trying fruit smoothies? Maybe if they are diluted with water you could tolerate them?

Have you tried eating tiny slithers of various fruit and veg? Maybe something like cucumber or melon might be worth experimenting with? Sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree, but I really hope you won't relapse, you've come so far it would be a real shame if you did.

ChittyChittyBoomBoom · 04/01/2020 22:41

When you were at your heaviest, how did your dh feel about your weight? Did it affect your relationship in any way?

Loveablers · 05/01/2020 01:15

OP I work in a similar role to you and honestly that’s not a healthy diet to lead.

You don’t need the coke to get through shifts. Or any sort of energy drink. It’s just that your body is now used to that.

You’d feel much better eating energy rich foods rather than high sugar foods

zoobincan · 05/01/2020 01:56

How much restriction did being that size put on your life? I'm under 20 stone but still massively overweight and there are so many things I can't do or have to think about that 'normal' weight people can.

Can't sit in a booth at cafe

Can't sit in some of the chairs in local coffee shop

Can barely reach my own arse

Have stress incontinence - this is only since I went over 18 stone, but after I pee when I stand I dribble Blush

Can't have a bath

Knees hurt under the strain

Back aches whenever I walk

Can't go on rides with kids

Can't walk through normal sized spaces

Cant travel on the Caledonian sleeper

Can't walk into a shop and buy clothes easily

Can't tie shoelaces so an resigned to slip ons

Have fatty liver disease

And the other day, just the other day I discovered I can't reach the back of my oven when cleaning it (with the door open in the way) because I am so fat.

Did your weight cause you 'I cants' ?

I'm starting the losing process now, I gained 5 stone in year due to illness

Gingerkittykat · 05/01/2020 02:12

Your diet is truly terrible, how are you getting protein and vitamins and minerals.

Did you get the surgery on the NHS? Did you have any kind of aftercare both for diet and psychological support?
