Oh that's interesting! Can you tell us the type of business? Were you offering a product or a service? Did you start it up alone?

sparklefarts · 05/07/2019 13:22

Can I have a tenner?

Wink
LivingDeadGirlUK · 05/07/2019 13:26

What was your reason for selling?

Keepaddingpets · 05/07/2019 13:32

How many millions?

Lightsabre · 05/07/2019 13:39

How and when did you start out?

buttertoasty · 05/07/2019 13:42

What will you do now you have sold it?

funnyfuckers · 05/07/2019 13:45

How old were you when you started it and now? Were you on your own or was someone else involved. Will you start something up again? Are you Jo Malone Grin

BBBear · 05/07/2019 13:47

what kind of company was it?

thinkfast · 05/07/2019 13:54

Did you have any sellers remorse?

LivingAllTheDreams · 05/07/2019 13:57

I started about 10 years ago in my early 30s, but the first couple of years there wasn't too much going on and the hard work started about 2 years later.

I offered a legal/HR service and it transitioned from consultancy based offering into a tech platform.

OP posts:
BBBear · 05/07/2019 14:01

Do you think you were right place/right time or did you actively look to make the change to the tech platform?

CatherineOfAragonsPrayerBook · 05/07/2019 14:01

I offered a legal/HR service and it transitioned from consultancy based offering into a tech platform.

Could you elaborate on this, without outing your businesss?

LivingAllTheDreams · 05/07/2019 14:02

I'd taken the business as far as I could, tech is not my area of expertise (or my interest in all honesty) and I couldn't take it to the next level.

I sold because I felt I had a responsibility to everyone who worked in the organisation to continue the success.

Obviously the money was also an incentive Grin

Do you still work? A friend that did similar couldn't cope not working so went back to consultancy (and makes even more£££!).

TinselTimes · 05/07/2019 14:05

What do you do now?

Do you plan to start another business?

What do you think helped you be so successful?

LivingAllTheDreams · 05/07/2019 14:05

Do you think you were right place/right time or did you actively look to make the change to the tech platform?

A bit of both. I think I'd have been quite happy letting the consultancy side of things tick over but a series of personal circumstances meant I became more driven and at the same time clients were saying "what we really need is a system that allows us to do this", so I sought out that solution.

I had no expectation of the level of success it achieved

How do you feel about ‘your’ business now? Do you worry about it’s reputation in the sector/public perception/staff treatment or have you stopped seeing the current regime As anything to do with you?

ButterflyWitch · 05/07/2019 14:08

I always love hearing stories like this. Inspirational. Well done OP. Here’s to other women achieving similar success!!

LivingAllTheDreams · 05/07/2019 14:08

No I don't think I'll start another business, I'm continuing to do a bit of consultancy, but I'm only taking in stuff which is really interesting to me.

OP posts:
ButterflyWitch · 05/07/2019 14:10

OMG but I hope this has nothing to do with WorkDay as that platform is utterly shite 😆

LivingAllTheDreams · 05/07/2019 14:16

"My business" no longer exists as such, it's been subsumed by the purchasing company.

I do have some bittersweet moments and that's perhaps why I'm not keen on starting up something new, but I'm proud of what I achieved.

It's not ESR is it? Bloody awful

bathorshower · 05/07/2019 14:32

Did growing the business involve crazy hours? We have a friend who has done something similar in the tech sector - not sure it was quite as successful as yours, but I think it was sold for a 7 figure sum. He worked incredibly hard for a few years, and it's certainly put DH off attempting something similar.

Was there a stage where you had very few staff, and had to do everything (e.g. marketing, sales, HR, technical things etc.). My friend says that was a stage he really didn't enjoy, and while he is working now, he doesn't plan to start another company.

Lindy2 · 05/07/2019 14:40

Do you think it was worth what you sold it for or did it exceed your expectations?
Has it continued to be successful without you?
Well done by the way!
