I have just a full tummy tuck and lipo in Prague, AMA!

I'm two weeks post op and back home. Very pleased with the results so far, though have another 6 weeks of wearing a compression garment.

I have a friend who went to Belgium for their tummy tuck and that's where my research started. I chose Prague based on reviews, price and availability. I've recently taken voluntary redundancy so the timing was right to get it done.

I made initial contact and sent pictures for review by a surgeon. Recommendation came back and I was able to book in for 3 weeks later.

On the day of my op I went in and met the surgeon, went for health tests in the next room, was shown to my bed and a few hours later I was under the knife! The op lasted just over two hours and other than feeling groggy and a bit sore, I felt pretty good.

You're encouraged to get up and go to the loo as soon as you can, and whilst I was a little worried that I'd stand up and keel over, I was fine. Ok, I had to carry the drains from my lipo with me, but that was ok!

I was at the clinic for two nights and then moved to a hotel for the recommended 2-3 night stay before flying.

On those 3 days I was walking between 3-5 miles a day. Probably not for everyone but I was up and about and didn't want to be stuck in a hotel room.

I was given take away medication, bandages, gauze etc. They also have 24/7 follow up care via the phone if you need it.

Today I found I've dropped a dress size, even whilst still swollen and wearing compression.

AMA!

@Still18atheart I went the day before my surgery, spent two nights at the clinic and a further 3 nights at a hotel. They recommended 2-3 day's post clinic stay and I followed the recommendation.

Did you ever consider spending£3k with a personal trainer As an alternative to the lipo?

chuffnstuff · 14/05/2019 19:06

@tedx quite a lot for men and women. If you want to google it, it's called the Forme Clinic.

Thanks, did the £3K include flights and accommodation?

chuffnstuff · 14/05/2019 19:07

@Somersetlady I have separated stomach muscles, or at least did. I run (though not at the moment) but my tummy is something that no amount of exercise will ever change.

chuffnstuff · 14/05/2019 19:08

@MissDemelzaCarne no, that was for the op and clinic stay only. Flights were £80 return. Hotels a whatever you want to spend really, there's hundreds near the clinic as it's in central Prague.

What will you do if you regain the 2st you lost by dieting?

PunkRockHippy · 14/05/2019 19:11

How much downtime will you need in total - I don’t know if you’re working but when would you be able to be back at work for a moderately active job?

tilder · 14/05/2019 19:11

I'm with NoBaggyPants.

Nhs picks up quite a bill from things like this. Are you sure you would be able to travel back if you needed further treatment in case of complication or infection?

Do you have insurance to cover post op care?

Somersetlady · 14/05/2019 19:47

Thanks @chuffnstuff after 2 c sections and having my tubes tied I have an overhang where I was sewn up. I have lost 3 stone that put on at the height of my baby weight and am considering options at the moment!

MrsFogi · 14/05/2019 19:51

@Bloomburger, out of interest what was the cost of your op in the UK?

MissDemelzaCarne · 14/05/2019 20:15

Would you have been relying on your E111 if you had required emergency transfer to hospital over there or is that covered?
Likewise is there private backup if you develop problems back home or would require NHS follows up?

Bloomburger · 14/05/2019 20:17

£8400. I wouldn't go abroad but am in the position where I could afford to pay that.

Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis · 14/05/2019 20:21

How old are you?

chuffnstuff · 14/05/2019 20:25

@RussellSprout after nearly 45 years I've worked out my limitations when it comes to food. That with being able to finally buy clothes without taking my baggy belly into consideration every time, I feel ( yep easier said than done), that the weight won't go back on.

chuffnstuff · 14/05/2019 20:26

@PunkRockHippy If I was working I'd easily be back to work now. No strenuous exercise for 8 weeks post op, but I'm easily doing 10k steps per day with no issues.

chuffnstuff · 14/05/2019 20:27

@tilder yes, I have insurance.

@Itwouldtakemuchmorethanthis I'm 45.

I'm in my mid 30's and have to go dieted and after two huge babies I have an overhand. At my lowest weight I was 9st 6 but my stomach is still huge. - I am so tempted. Do you feel comfortable adding pics?

Racheyg · 14/05/2019 20:28

That's meant to so yo yo dieted

Atalune · 14/05/2019 20:31

Were you able to communicate with the team at the hospital, was language a barrier at all?

StormcloakNord · 14/05/2019 20:36

Was communication an issue?
Can you tell us the name of the place in Prague you went?? Want to look it up!

HotSauceCommittee · 14/05/2019 20:56

I’m sure OP has worked and payed plenty of tax and National Insurance to cover it Hmm
I’ve paid for my own breast reduction and varicose vein removal in the U.K. (neither were for cosmetic purposes only, but NHS wouldn’t help me), so good luck to the OP. If she has paid for her own surgery abroad and needs further help in her own country, I for one am happy to have my tax and NI contributions help, because they certainly didn’t help me.
Good for you, OP. I sometimes feel like, as a middle aged woman, I can go die in a ditch as far as help from the NHS goes, no I’m no longer a breeder.

chuffnstuff · 15/05/2019 08:57

@HotSauceCommittee Thanks! I certainly didn't go into it thinking that if I had any complications the NHS would pick up the bill.....

chuffnstuff · 15/05/2019 08:58

@StormcloakNord @Atalune They all spoke very good English so no language barrier issues at all.
