Not sure if this has been done before!
I live on the Isle of Man, ask any questions you have! Grin

Were you born there or did you move there for work, marry someone local or just on a whim?

Is there a point, like the Isles of Scilly, where you know kids will have to leave? 16? Uni? Can’t afford to settle down?

Do you feel a particular connection to anywhere on the mainland eg Liverpool?

nicea · 27/12/2018 20:40

@SecretlyChartreuse

Born here.

It's pretty much a given that a lot of 'kids' leave at 18 to do degrees! It's the only option to move to UK to go to university really.

Yes, I think a lot of Manxies feel a particular connection to Liverpool as it's just so easy to get there for us compared to other places. They do daytrip excursions which are very popular so you have a full day in Liverpool and home for bed so it's the easiest daytrip!

Are we related?

(Probably, given it's about 2 degrees of separation in the IOM! My mum was from there but moved across not long after marrying my dad.)

nicea · 27/12/2018 20:45

@LadyFarnborough potentially then!Wink

One of my favourite people in life lives on the IOM Grin I have a feeling it’s a small place if you’ve or kids and feel she knows everyone

beela · 27/12/2018 20:52

Do you know my aunt? She lives there.

Hsmumma · 27/12/2018 20:52

My FIL lives there, do you have any suggestions for things to do with a toddler as we can never find anything to do 😂. What do you do for fun?

GoodHeavensNoImAChicken · 27/12/2018 20:53

What jobs are there? And what jobs aren’t if that makes sense

XmasPostmanBos · 27/12/2018 20:55

As a feminist would you like to see it renamed the Isle of Persons?

nicea · 27/12/2018 20:57

@Hsmumma I do find it hard to do stuff for fun with a toddler, especially as I don't drive! But there's 2 main soft play areas which are good (although one is only usually open on a Monday and a Friday), parks, feeding the ducks/horses, swimming, baby groups (that's about it).

Tell us a bit about yourself Smile

nicea · 27/12/2018 20:58

@GoodHeavensNoImAChicken same as anywhere else really I think? Except maybe more agricultural occupations than UK.

@XmasPostmanBos haha, I think that should be the least of anyone's worries! Grin

nicea · 27/12/2018 21:01

@SeaLionsOnMyShirt not a Chinese fan so I'm not experienced but have only ever heard amazing things about the Golden Gate in Willaston!!! Smile

@nicea
Ahh last time we came over was in November and we couldn’t find anything to do, the weather was horrendous, one of the soft plays was shut. We did venture to the other one but it was rammed!
I was surprised they shut the home of rest for horses over winter and the train 😲. We were going to go to that wildlife park but it chucked it down.

SeaLionsOnMyShirt · 27/12/2018 21:07

@nicea Thank you, I've driven past there but not tried it, so will give it a go!

trinity0097 · 27/12/2018 21:11

Do you say hello to the fairies when you pass over the fairy bridge?

usernametaken · 27/12/2018 21:13

We are possibly going to the IOM in May, whats the cheapest way to get there by ferry?

WhitePhantom · 27/12/2018 21:13

I worked there for a few summers many many years ago (30 +). Do you live in Douglas? I don't suppose Bushys is still there?

brizzledrizzle · 27/12/2018 21:15

Can you still buy the Manx white whisky?

2cats2many · 27/12/2018 21:17

Is it a nice place to take children for a camping holiday? If so, any campsites you'd recommend?

nicea · 27/12/2018 21:21

@trinity0097 I think I'm in the minority that doesn't!

@usernametaken depends where in the UK you are? The prices go up a lot in May for the TT.

OP posts:
nicea · 27/12/2018 21:21

@WhitePhantom lived in Douglas most of my life but moved to Onchan this year. Bushys Beer Tent is still going strong every TT!

OP posts:
nicea · 27/12/2018 21:24

@brizzledrizzle I actually believe you can but don't hold me to it

@2cats2many depends on the time of year as our weather isn't always great. I'm not a camper but anyone I know who goes on camping excursions usually does Glen Wyllin and it's apparently great!

OP posts:
usernametaken · 27/12/2018 21:26

@nicea we are in southern uk. We aren't going there for the TT which is a few weeks before we need to go. We will be coming over with a car so we've just started looking at how to get there and options.
