Although most MNers seem to know this stuff, I keep on seeing incorrect info posted (a few days ago it was something about HIV taking 18 months to show up on tests - so untrue!!!)

Anyway - my "coming out" post from last year is here if anyone is interested www.mumsnet.com/Talk/relationships/2942589-Getting-back-in-the-saddle-and-HIV

Myrtle - I wrote about the dentist upthread...yes I told him and he was absolutely great, so laid back about it, no shock or anything. I think in general that dentists are on the ball with potentially infectious stuff

ah, sorry I missed it Blush but am glad he was on board and you had less explaining/guiding to do!

Apols for 'graphicness' but The partner study included gay males who had one positive 'top' partner and one negative 'bottom' partner (ie the biggest risk for transmission possible); absolutely no infection occurred which makes the study even further conclusive.

HIVpos · 14/07/2018 22:29

Aww congratulations namechange. Yes, I realise I'm in a somewhat better position with the partner study out now. It must have been tougher in the past. I've read about sperm washing and all sorts from the past for serodiscordant couples trying to conceive.

I don't think it would be using the term PTSD lightly at all - must have been very stressful for you. Have you got help for this? I know of people who had PTSD just from the diagnosis

Aww thanks! I think I've moved forward more now and am enjoying my beautiful children now, but those 18 months were very dark indeed, spent in a state of extreme guilty anxiety.

HIVpos · 14/07/2018 22:39

SmellMyBeads I suggest you RTFT then Smile Here is the link again to show how it is not transferred i-base.info/qa-on-the-partner-study/ This is endorsed by the World Health Organisation, NHS and all major groups with an interest.

However, not surprising you'd be terrified if you don't know anything about it. Hence this thread Smile

As for telling the dentist - well I didn't have to. I don't have to actually tell anyone. Dentists have universal precautions to cover any possible infections. They will no doubt treat patients who do not even know they have, say, Hepatitis (way easier to catch than HIV) hence the precautions.

If a dentist felt they had to use extra precautions if someone disclosed to them, I would be questioning their health and safety measures.

Aww really pleased for you namechanged Amazing how so much can be achieved now {smile]

Thanks. I still wouldn't be comfortable with it, study or this thread. It's irresponsible in my opinion.

namechange6789 · 14/07/2018 22:44

Sorry to hijack further but for me the drugs have had no side effects whatsoever, I've had no,fatigue etc either. 😊

namechange6789 · 14/07/2018 22:45

Thanks for contributing further to the stigma smellmybeads. I guess you'd also shun those afflicted with a cold? Cold sores? 🙄

namechange6789 · 14/07/2018 22:46

Which is of course your choice but don't discriminate based on the species of virus....

namechange6789 · 14/07/2018 22:49

Oh, or HPV which the majority of us have?

Ticcinalong · 14/07/2018 22:50

smellmybeads it is absolutely not irresponsible for a HIV pos person with undetectable load to inform and have sex with an informed consenting adult Hmm. You are much safer having sex with someone who knows they are hiv pos and undetectable than a general untested member of the public. Honestly, educate yourself a bit instead of making silly remarks.

namechange6789 · 14/07/2018 22:50

Thank you ticcaThanks

EDITED BY MNHQ TO REMOVE REPETITION OF DELETED POST.

Don’t blame the media. They haven’t portrayed HIV like that since the 80s. That is all your own uninformed prejudice.

namechange6789 · 14/07/2018 22:59

Wow. Just wow. That being said you don't make me feel dirty or stigmatised. My career is most recently based in immunology in Oxbridge so with all due respect I am confident in saying i have a Heck of a lot more knowledge than you do in this field. You seem stuck in the 80's mindset of hiv.

Tinywhale · 14/07/2018 23:01

Oh, and people don’t “suffer” from HIV these days. Haven’t done for a very long time.

SmellMyBeads · 14/07/2018 23:03

Well I've seen nothing to portray it in the flowery way you are!

userxx · 14/07/2018 23:05

@SmellMyBeads Seriously, you sound fucking hideous. Maybe crawl back under that rock eh.

namechange6789 · 14/07/2018 23:06

I'm fine, you don't affect me as you're simply misinformed and don't understand the scientific intricacies. Ive worked in this field since 2002, long before my diagnosis.

namechange6789 · 14/07/2018 23:07

Userxx ❤️

HIVpos · 14/07/2018 23:08

Smellmybeads it sounds like you have an issue with illnesses in general. However to say you wouldn’t want to share space with someone HIV pos is quite insulting. How do you think it is caught? And what paper are you reading?

Totally your prerogative but you should educate yourself before passing judgement. I’m happy to educate and discuss with those who are open and interested, but you are a pretty good example of people who just don’t want to know and prefer to live with what they want to believe.

Go away @user

@name I've admitted a few posts back that I was ignorant on the subject. I will read on but won't contribute to the thread any further.
