I see lots of threads on here with people asking for information on the bursary system. Having put four children through private school for more or less free, I know the system pretty well, ama.

I know ppl who have scraped and scrimped to pay for their children to attend private school. I don’t blame you wanting the best but I don’t think it’s anything to be bragging about it’s just another form of living of handouts.

I think its fantastic to give children for less privileged backgrounds this opportunity. I think any Parents that manage to get there kids into a private school on a bursary will make sure there kids fully appreciate this very privileged education.

Hi, please I need urgent help:( My child was in year 7 and 8 in private school which bankrupted in Juli. She was on 50:/: bursary. We went to visit immediately 2 other private schools in our area, but they said they gave out all bursaries in January, so we decided to send her to government school from September. Since then she is really struggling ( mainly mentally) , so I contacted the school again, explaining what happened and have been told same story. Is it good idea to email the bursar directly and explain our situation?please help:(

Have you spoken to the school she is in? Can they offer her some support. There's loads our school does behind the scenes that not everyone is aware of.

Evule - and anyone else finding themselves in such a situation - there are some charities around that provide support for keeping children in schools when their family circumstances have changed; I would imagine they would also be open to helping in your situation. However they often state that they prioritise children in or near exam years / help till the end of a phase of education.

Good luck finding the right ways forward for your children.

TwitterQueen - No I'm defiantly not married to a vicar! The children dad had absolutely nothing to do with the schools.

TwitterQueen - No I don't want a medal, I want to help others. I have seen first hand the difference a private education can make to children from poorer backgrounds.

My daughter has just been offered a place at a private school and I am in the process of applying for a bursery/scholarship any help or advise would be welcomed? Thanks
