What Mumsnet users say

Our verdict

If you tend to run warm at night or share a bed with a partner, the OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress is a strong mid-range option that balances support, airflow and everyday practicality.

On paper, the OTTY ticks a lot of boxes. It’s a 25cm-deep hybrid mattress with up to 2,000 encapsulated pocket springs and multiple layers of memory foam, designed to balance comfort, support and airflow.

To see how it performs outside the marketing claims, Mumsnet tester Katy White slept on the mattress for a month in her own home. Katy shares a bed with her partner and describes herself as a combination sleeper, meaning she switches between positions during the night - a good test for how adaptable a mattress really is.

If you're still comparing options, our guide to the best mattress includes expert-tested picks for different sleep styles and budgets.

The packaging is compact for the Otty Original Hybrid mattress for easy delivery

One of the main things Katy hoped to improve was overheating during sleep. Her previous mattress tended to trap heat, meaning she would often wake up feeling too warm.

After a month with the OTTY mattress, she noticed a clear improvement: “I wake up not in a sweat and generally feel a cool, consistent temperature all night.”

That temperature control likely comes down to the mattress’s hybrid construction. The pocket spring layer allows air to circulate through the mattress more freely than an all-foam design, while the foam layers above help cushion pressure points and support different sleeping positions.

Katy also found the mattress supportive and comfortable throughout the testing period, particularly as a combination sleeper. The medium-firm feel offered the right balance between cushioning and support, helping her feel properly supported regardless of how she slept.

Another pleasant surprise was how practical the mattress proved in everyday use. Compared with her previous mattress - which she describes as “super thick and heavy” - the OTTY was much easier to manoeuvre, rotate and maintain.

Overall, the OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress proved to be a supportive mattress that helps prevent heat build-up overnight, making it particularly well suited to hot sleepers and couples. It may feel a little firm for those who prefer a very soft or plush mattress, but if you’re looking for balanced support and better temperature regulation overnight, it’s a compelling option in the mid-range hybrid market.

How we’ve tested the OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress

Katy tested the OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress for a month in her own home. During the testing period she used the mattress nightly with her partner, assessing its comfort, support, temperature regulation, motion isolation and overall practicality.

She also compared the experience with her previous mattress - a Woolroom mattress, which she describes as “super thick and heavy”.

Does the OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress perform?

Overall performance throughout testing was consistently strong. Katy found the mattress offered what she described as a “great level of comfort” while remaining “super supportive for sleep” and maintaining a comfortable temperature overnight.

That balance of support and comfort is exactly what hybrid mattresses aim to achieve. The OTTY combines pocket springs with foam layers, meaning the spring core provides structural support while the foam above cushions pressure points such as shoulders and hips. For combination sleepers like Katy, who shift position during the night, that adaptability can make a noticeable difference to overall comfort.

Katy also noticed the mattress seemed to settle slightly over time, reporting that performance “slightly improved” over the month-long trial. This isn’t unusual - many hybrid mattresses take a few weeks to fully expand and soften after being compressed for delivery.

Is the OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress durable?

First impressions of quality were positive. Katy rated the mattress four out of five and commented that although it felt lighter than she expected, the materials still seemed durable and well constructed.

She described the mattress as feeling “bouncy (but not too bouncy)” with fabric that felt “durable and thick”. That gentle bounce is typical of hybrid mattresses, where the pocket springs create a responsive surface that’s easier to move around on than traditional memory foam beds.

Hybrid mattresses like the OTTY combine springs and foam, which is why they often feature in our guide to the best hybrid mattress options.

The internal construction also gave Katy confidence in the build quality. She noted that the layered structure made it feel “quality and well structured”, which reflects the mattress design - a spring support core topped with layers of foam intended to balance pressure relief, support and airflow.

While long-term durability is difficult to judge after just a month of testing, the mattress retained its shape well and the materials appeared sturdy. The OTTY also comes with a 10-year warranty, which is standard for mattresses in this price bracket.

How easy is it to unbox and set up the OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress?

One area where the OTTY mattress really impressed Katy was its practicality. Compared with her previous mattress, she found this one far easier to manage day to day.

When it first arrived, she noticed how manageable it was to move, explaining that it “felt very lightweight when it arrived”, which made it easy to manoeuvre into position.

Like many online mattress brands, the OTTY arrives compressed and vacuum-sealed in a box. Katy found this delivery method particularly convenient, saying the “roll up aspect of the bed on arrival was super convenient”.

Once unpacked, the mattress was also easier to rotate than her previous one thanks to its lighter weight and built-in handles. The removable cover adds another layer of practicality, making the mattress easier to maintain.

Is the OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress good value for money?

Katy felt the mattress represented strong value, particularly when compared with some more expensive mattresses she has previously owned.

She explained that she had “tried more expensive mattresses that don’t give me the same benefits of this one”, particularly when it came to sleeping cooler at night and everyday practicality.

The OTTY Original Hybrid sits in the mid-range price bracket and is often discounted during sales. Considering the comfort, cooling performance and practical design, Katy felt the overall value was justified.

How comfortable is the OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress?

Comfort proved to be one of the mattress’s biggest strengths during testing. Katy rated it five out of five for comfort and described the firmness as “just right”.

The OTTY Original Hybrid is typically rated around seven out of ten on the firmness scale, placing it in the medium-firm category. That level of firmness tends to suit a wide range of sleepers, particularly combination sleepers like Katy who shift positions during the night.

Throughout the testing period she reported feeling “well supported” while sleeping. However, she also noted the mattress might not suit everyone, suggesting it would be less suitable for “someone who likes a very soft, squishy bed”.

If you prefer a softer sleep surface, adding one of the best mattress toppers can help adjust firmness without replacing your mattress entirely. Is it good at regulating temperature?

Cooling performance was one of the biggest improvements Katy noticed during testing. Her previous mattress had a tendency to trap heat, often leaving her waking up uncomfortable.

With the OTTY mattress, she says she now wakes “not in a sweat” and experiences a “cool, consistent temperature all night”.

That makes sense given the mattress design. Hybrid mattresses tend to sleep cooler than all-foam models because the spring layer allows air to circulate through the mattress more freely, helping excess heat disperse overnight. The foam layers in the OTTY mattress are also designed to help regulate temperature and maintain a comfortable sleeping environment.

Even in a warm bedroom, Katy found the mattress stayed comfortable and suitable for year-round use.

The distinct pattern of the Otty Original Hybrid Mattress is shown

Katy found herself well supported during during her month-long testing

Is there motion isolation with the OTTY Original Hybrid mattress?

Because Katy shares a bed with her partner, motion transfer was an important factor during testing. Fortunately, the mattress performed well in this area. Katy reported feeling movement from her partner “hardly at all”, noting that sleep disturbance improved slightly compared with her previous mattress.

Although spring mattresses can sometimes increase movement across the bed, individually wrapped pocket springs like those used in the OTTY mattress are designed to absorb motion rather than transfer it across the surface.

Any health and safety concerns?

Katy reported no issues relating to materials or safety during the testing period. When the mattress was first unpacked there was no noticeable chemical smell, which can sometimes occur with foam mattresses.

She also experienced no allergies, irritation or breathing issues while using the mattress, simply reporting “no issues” throughout the month-long test.

Final verdict of the OTTY Hybrid mattress

The OTTY Original Hybrid Mattress proved to be a comfortable, supportive and practical option during testing.

Its standout feature is how well it regulates temperature overnight - something Katy noticed almost immediately compared with her previous mattress. Combined with the supportive medium-firm feel and easy-to-handle design, it’s particularly well suited to hot sleepers and couples.

If you prefer a very soft mattress you may want something plusher, but for most sleepers looking for balanced support and cooler nights, the OTTY Original Hybrid is a strong contender in the mid-range hybrid mattress market.

And don’t forget - the right pillow can make just as much difference to your sleep as your mattress. See our guide to the best pillows. For a full sleep upgrade, you might also want to browse our guide to the best bedding sets.
