The Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker wasn’t our highest scoring baby bouncer of all on test (the BabyBjörn Bouncer Bliss scored a point more overall), but we rated it highly for both its functionality, safety credentials and affordability.

We like how safe, comfortable and easy to move this rocker is, allowing you to keep your baby close during those early months. It'll then remain a familiar place for your child to sit right through to toddlerhood and beyond.

Our parent tester Luci loved this bouncer so much that she carried on using it after testing finished and felt it was such good value for money that she even recommended it to a friend. High praise indeed.

How we tested the Fisher-Price Infant to Toddler Rocker

  • Four months of testing

  • Tested with a newborn

  • Used at least once a day

We tested the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker with parent tester and mum-of-two Luci, who used this bouncer with her youngest, who was just two weeks old when testing began.

She used it daily in her home and tested it over the course of four months to see how this bouncer performed as her baby grew bigger.

How easy is the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker to assemble?

While it may not be the quickest baby seat to put together, the step-by-step instruction manual contains pictures of the relevant parts to make it easier, however you will need a screwdriver for assembly. It took our tester Luci a total of 30 minutes to put the seat together, but it was a simple, one-person job all-in-all.

Once the rocker was set up, Luci didn’t need to refer back to the instructions again as the seat is very intuitive to use. To switch to the toddler rocker, you simply remove the toy bar and the three-point harness.

The instructions also show you how to remove the seat pad for washing. If you do need any further help or find you’ve misplaced your instructions, you can go to the Fisher-Price website to request a copy. There’s also a helpline if you need any extra assistance.

Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker in rainforest and Pacific pebble

How does the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker look?

Composed of a plastic frame and a spun polyester seat with a flame-retardant coating, this bouncer feels both durable and built to last. It might not be as chic as the likes of the BabyBjörn Bouncer Bliss or the BabyBjörn Bouncer Balance Soft, but it has a soft and supportive seat pad that’s as comfortable for babies as it is for toddlers.

We tested the rainforest-themed Infant-to-Toddler Rocker and it looked almost brand-new after more than four months of testing. Our tester's baby also loved the bright and fun design of the seat and its accompanying two hanging toys.

As well as the rainforest print in pink or green, the bouncer also comes in Terrazzo (also called Pacific Pebble on some retail sites), which is a multi-coloured block print.

Luci says, “It’s brighter than I would probably choose [for a bouncer] but my daughter loved it. It fits in easily with the decor of my home and it’s light to move around. I like that my daughter can lay almost flat. The fabric does its job. It’s soft enough and water-repellent to an extent so it wipes clean.”

How safe and stable is the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker?

This is one of the areas that the rocker scored top marks, with our tester Luci saying that the seat felt sturdy and well made. As part of the testing process, she checked all the materials fitted properly and that there were no loose parts or small gaps for little fingers to get caught in.

With a deep seat and a padded, easy-to-operate three-point harness, the rocker manages to be both comfortable and secure. It doesn’t have a padded insert though so, while it can be used from birth, it may not be as supportive for particularly small babies who need extra support.

The toy bar is flexible but secure so can’t be pulled off easily by an excitable baby or an older sibling. With a five-year-old big brother around, the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker’s stability was naturally put to the test, as he often leant over the seat to play with his baby sister, who was four months old at the end of the testing period, and loved to rock her too.

When it comes to size, the rocker is very self-contained with no legs sticking out as we saw on the Chad Valley Jungle Friends Bouncer, so it doesn’t pose any trip hazards for busy parents or older children running around. The chair was tested out on carpets, slate and wood flooring and it didn’t slip around when being rocked.

Fisher-Price advises that parents use the harness until their child can climb in and out of the bouncer by themselves.

Toddler sat in Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker

What’s the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker like to use day-to-day?

The Infant-to-Toddler Rocker has been designed to be spacious yet neat – it's about the size of a firm pillow so won't take up too much room in your home.

While it doesn’t fold like the BabyBjörn Bouncer Bliss, it is light enough, at 3.7kg, to be moved around the house and to travel with if you have space in your car. As there’s no handle, our tester carried it under her arm up the stairs and from room to room. Her 75-year-old mother also had no problems carrying it to her car.

Once a baby can climb in and out by themselves, it's very simple to switch the bouncer to a toddler rocking chair which can be used for eating snacks or relaxing.

Is it comfortable for babies?

In the early days, the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker does need to be rocked by an adult (or an older sibling) but, as your child gets bigger, they can rock it themselves with simply a kick of their legs. Our tester’s daughter loved the rocking motion and the quiet vibration setting often calmed her down.

You can switch it from rocking mode to a stationary seat by pulling the kickstand out. Despite our tester using the vibration a lot for her baby, the seat didn't use up too much energy and the batteries are still going strong even after testing.

Luci says, “If you need you, you can also easily lift the toy bar out by squeezing each size. You can’t do this with your baby in your arms though as you need two hands, so you’ll need to lay her down elsewhere while you remove the toy bar or slide her under the toy bar and into the seat if you don't want to take it off.”

The Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker has a deep, comfortable chair with two recline positions where our tester’s baby loved to rest and play.

Toy bar on Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker

Does it have any extra features?

As well as optional vibrations and two recline positions, this 2-in-1 bouncer comes with a toy bar with two hanging toys, a clacker and a rollerball, which Luci’s baby played and engaged with more than any of the other baby bouncer toys she tested.

These types of toy are great sensory toys for babies, which is why they were such a hit, however they are quite high up so may not be easy for younger babies to reach.

Luci says, “The toys are nicely designed and feel really solid. My daughter engaged with these the most even as a newborn. She could reach them with a blanket behind her back when she was smaller as the bar sadly isn’t adjustable – to be able to tilt them would have been better.”

How easy is it to clean the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker?

With a seat that can last right up to toddlerhood, you’ll want to make sure milk, food and other baby stains can easily be wiped or washed off.

The Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker was put through its paces with formula milk and tomato ketchup stain tests. The milk wiped smoothly off the cover with a damp cloth and most of the sauce cleaned off too.

The cover was removed by unfastening the buckle at the back of the seat and sliding it off the base. It was then machine washed at 30 degrees, coming out with only a very faint mark. After washing, the cover kept its shape and slid easily back onto the frame.

When it comes to the base, the plastic frame can be wiped with a damp cloth, however the holes that attach the toy bar to the seat could potentially gather dust (although our tester personally didn't experience this).

Is the Fisher-Price Infant-to-Toddler Rocker good value for money?

For a strong, reliable seat that can soothe and entertain your baby for up to two years, at £69 the Infant-to-Toddler Rocker offers great value for money.

With a longer usage time than other more expensive bouncers we tested, such as the Joie Serina 2-in-1 Swing, the Fisher-Price model is a bouncer that will appeal to the majority of parents, particularly those on a tighter budget.

As Fisher-Price is a popular and trusted baby brand, you could also sell the seat after you’ve finished with it. A second-hand Infant-to-Toddler Rocker in good condition currently sells for around £20.

Overall, the Infant-to-Toddler Rocker is a great buy for parents looking for a good-quality baby bouncer that will soothe, entertain and last longer than the six months seen on most other baby bouncers.
